Doorbell relies on its indoor chime signal. keep them within 5 meters (max 10). Avoid the metal doors/thick concrete walls between them; If poor signal shows in the app, move the indoor chime closer to doorbell or use a power outlet for it. Can I connect this doorbell to my existing traditional chime? No. This doorbell is designed to work with the included 95dB chime for optimal performance and compatibility. Why is my G410 draining the battery so quickly? It requires Alkaline 1.5V LR6 battery, don't use rechargeable 1.2V Ni-MH batteries or mix old & new batteries. This camera doorbell is very straight forward to install. Plug in the chime/hub module and add it to Apple Home. This is easy to do since it supports both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz Wifi. This is key since many Wifi devices still on the market only support 2.4Ghz Wifi which means that the installer must disable the 5Ghz bands of their Wifi router to perform the installation. The Aqara hub connected to 5Ghz with no issues. Installing the doorbell unit was also easy. I removed my old doorbell unit, screwed the Aqara mount to the wall and connected the two power wires to the camera unit. It connected itself to the hub and it worked. I also like that the hub contains its own chime so there is no need to puzzle out a connection to the existing chime. The camera provides an excellent field of view and the integration with Apple Home was flawless.

This is my first smart doorbell and I was admittedly a bit anxious about the setup, but it was actually really easy. I didn’t need to drill to insert the mounting brackets - was just able to use the screws directly into the wooden frame of my door and it stayed secure. It lit up right away going off the existing doorbell wiring from my home. The Aqara Home app was a pretty straightforward step-by-step setup process to get everything online and updated. It also support 5GHz WiFi out of the box, so didn’t need to force my mesh network to 2.4GHz or anything like that. Feature wise, it ticked all the boxes for me which is why I went with this one. The biggest reason is that it has true Apple HomeKit integration with HomeKit Secure Video (so I won’t feel the need to add yet another subscription to my growing list of subscription services), resolution greater than 1080p, facial recognition is a plus. So far it has been reliable. Was able to define the “alert area” in Apple Home and haven’t gotten any false alerts. Also haven’t gotten any “overheating” alerts so far (we’ve had 90-100°F days). Firmware was easy to update in the Aqara Home app, but did have some hiccups adding to Apple Home initially - might have just been my network or a timing issue with the hub still booting up after the update, as it did eventually work after retrying a few times. Only minor gripe is that it doesn’t work with an existing chime and the Aqara chime hub is mandatory/needs to be placed close to the doorbell for a strong signal. Not a big deal though - the chime is loud and you can adjust the volume and tone with three default options or your own custom sounds.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY BUYING THIS PRODUCT! I implore you to pick ANYTHING ELSE. Understand I am coming to this video doorbell having used a Ring (3 years), a Eufy 2k (4 years) and this COMPLETE WASTE of cash...the Aqara! The setup guide is NOT ordered or presented in a way that results in success. It was a 5 hour nightmare getting the Aqara software to see the chime and video doorbell. TBH it was at this point I should have boxed the WORST video doorbell made up and returned it. As for the hardware...the actual video door bell unit is ALMOST the width of TWO EUFY 2K units! WHY IS THE DESIGN SO CLUNKY? The unnecessarily oversized unit, along with the cheap outmoded fixing screw method(anti-theft) will SEVERELY limit the wedge angles the bell can be mounted on if you you need a wedge. Back to the software...it seems to singularly favor (ONLY) HomeKit/Apple. Samsung Smart Things and Google Home integration is basically an after thought. Again, the setup to integrate with Samsung's and Google's products was hellish and prone to repeated failure rendering the use of Samsung/Google smart tech UNRELIABLE! The Aqara software allows the user to upload a customer (user chosen) ALERT notification sound in the app. In theory this "feature" sounds awesome. However within 5 days the Aqara software erases/deletes/reverts to default Aqara sound. Why offer the custom option if the Aqara software starts to ignore the selection?! Infuriating! I also noticed a BIZARRE software issue regarding the widget. When you use the Aqara software to "create and add (widget) to homescreen" the software requires pressing create 2-3 times to actually create. But here is where it dazzles you with disappointment...the widget disappears after a few days! I have NEVER had a app icon or widget disappear on its own. This happens on both my phone and tablet. And I saved the worst part for last...The bell, or the software or perhaps the combination of bell and software IS GLACIALLY SLOW WHEN TRYING TO VIEW TRIGGERED VIDEO ON ANY OF MY ANDROID DEVICES. Sadly but not shocked, I ONLY ever saw actual motion triggered snapshots on my iPhone. My Galaxy S25 Ultra, and my Galaxy S10 Plus tablet NEVER, NOT ONCE RECEIVED AN IMAGE SNAPSHOT (of triggered motion) alert. In case you were wondering why I bought this...I was pretty satisfied with my Eufy 2K. But Eufy doesn't natively support Homekit. I bought the Aqara because I use my AppleTV streaming box frequently. And I wanted to see a view of the triggered alert displayed on my TV. Aqara has made using/viewing their video doorbell a task I Hate now on my primary Android devices. The Aqara video doorbell is a hot pile of garbage. If I had to guess the value in relation to the terrible setup, essentially non-existent Android support...the Aqara video doorbell works WORSE than any of the knockoff type $50-$60 units you can find in the internet. After thoughts...I am SO HAPPY I did NOT pay for the extra software service features from Aqara. I can only imagine trying to claw back any kind of refund.

The Aqara Doorbell Camera Hub G410 is a doorbell camera plus IoT hub that provides a doorbell, two-way audio, face detection, and reports if a person is lingering at the door. It is similar in general capability to the Amazon Ring battery doorbell, but offers better overall value. I hated my Ring doorbell. It seemed to be designed by pirates, a $99 advertisement for costly monthly services to make the Ring do what the ad promised. The G410s mechanical design is solid. It has a high quality video camera and uses millimeter wave radar to detect motion. It comes standard with flexible mounting options you have to pay extra for with a Ring. The doorbell unit communicates wirelessly using the Matter IoT protocol to the hub, which talks to your local wi-fi network. All services operate locally, and don’t send data to distant servers to be hoovered up for unknowable purposes like the Ring does. The hub can control other IoT devices, and is also an indoor annunciator for the doorbell, another feature that costs extra with the Ring. The G410 software for Android is less solid. The user interface is powerful but not super obvious until you have used it for awhile. The software requires a firm press on the phone’s screen to push buttons, and the virtual keyboard is more finicky than the default Android keyboard. Much of the text is displayed in a very small font. I’m going to have to learn about the Matter protocol before attempting to connect any other IoT devices. Mechanical installation was easy. Software installation was a different matter. The Android app must be paired to the hub, which the app rather opaquely calls an “accessory.” The app can also connect (the hub) to a “device” so the process is confusing. You connect the app to the hub initially as a Bluetooth device. The app needs to scan a QR code on the hub to get the Bluetooth passkey, but there are three different QR code stickers on the hub, two of which are on the same surface, making it hard to isolate just one. Fortunately the hub comes factory paired to the doorbell device. If you try to set up the hub and doorbell on your desk before mounting the doorbell on the door, you discover that the doorbell has a tamper switch. Doorbell and hub both begin shrieking. So, for Android, I believe the correct installation sequence is: (1) Mount the hardware backplate on the door frame; (2) Download the Aqara app to your phone; (3) Use the app to install the hub as an accessory; (4) Put batteries in the doorbell and hang it on the backplate. You have to provide a USB wall wart to power the hub, but you may already have one. You will want a micro SD card to make the timeline feature work, but again, you may already have one. The Doorbell eats batteries unless you use the battery-saver mode, or you can find a 24v power source, maybe the ringer of your old doorbell if you didn’t drop the wires down the hole like I did. Four stars because the app is confusing and the documentation could be more extensive, but overall a satisfactory product.

Have had for about a month now with zero connectivity issues. Battery life still shows at 100% after about a month. Very easy to set up and install. Very happy with the recording quality. Overall I feel this was a great value compared to the cost of other comparable video doorbells.

This is the best doorbell camera system for Apple Home/HomeKit you can buy! - Great widescreen camera, accurate colors and night lighting, very little lag, if any - When connected through HomeKit, it can be configured to provide notifications when people approach the door. It can even recognize certain people, based on labels in the Photos app. - Installation was relatively simple and straightforward, but the instruction manual is only accessible online through a QR code. - It’s somewhat unintuitive to open the doorbell panel; the screw cover is on the right side, you need to lift it up and loosen the screw to remove the doorbell. - It’s okay to use batteries to power the doorbell panel, though I haven’t had this unit long enough to tell you how long it lasts. The chime and doorbell are permanently connected, so once the chime is plugged in, mounted and online, the system just works 🙂 Overall, this is a great upgrade to your smart home security system. There are more security features when you connect the devices to the Aqara app and then HomeKit, including Matter connectivity, but I wouldn’t know; I connected to HomeKit directly. Oops. 😅

Update 1: Review dropped from 4 stars to 3 stars after using the camera more and updating firmware. Here's why: I recently updated the firmware for the doorbell, and it now takes more than twice as long to connect when viewing through Apple HomeKit. The detection inaccuracies have returned, just as I had with the G4, where I am missing footage from several deliveries. I don't know what they messed up with the firmware update, but it has made almost every aspect of this doorbell worse. The only positive I can think of is the image is no longer bright white from over exposure when first opening the camera feed. It's still a serviceable doorbell, and I'll still be keeping it only due to the lack of options for HomeKit Secure Video battery-powered doorbells. -- Original Review: I used the Aqara G4 doorbell in battery mode for a little over a year, and I never had any major complaints. However, I decided to upgrade to the G410 due to the mmWave sensor. After using for a few days, here are my key takeaways: 1.) The doorbell seems to connect more quickly when opening from both HomeKit or Aqara's app. Aqara's native app has the best performance and video quality. 2.) HomeKit can use the mmWave sensor – you need to ensure you have this set up properly when first integrating the doorbell into HomeKit. The sensor can be used for automations, despite what I'm seeing others report online. 3.) The field of view is the first improvement I noticed, it looks much wider and taller than the old G4. 4.) The lack of HDR is disappointing, but not a deal breaker. My camera faces the sun but I haven't had any issues with exposure. Do I really need to see every detail in the clouds? No. But it would be nice. 5.) The "Tamper Protection" is a joke. It began going off when I inserted my batteries and tried hanging my doorbell back up, and it would NOT shut off. Tried going into the Aqara app, and it conveniently wouldn't connect to the doorbell. I had to furiously take the doorbell back off and rip out the batteries to get it to reboot. 6.) Just disable the linger notifications. By default, it's set to 0 seconds!? You can manually adjust this, but it's finicky at that. 7.) The ability for local storage is nice, but it's a shame you no longer receive Aqara's cloud storage for free, like you do on the G4. I just use an inexpensive micro SD card though, so I'm not too concerned (especially since I almost exclusively look at my footage through HomeKit, which is stored with my iCloud subscription). 8.) The old bracket is identical to this one, so I didn't even have to do a reinstallation! That's probably the best part about this doorbell for me personally. 9.) Finally, motion detection is significantly better than the G4 due to the mmWave sensor. I am seeing more recorded clips with brief motion near my door than before, which leads me to wonder how many recordings I missed with my old G4. There would be plenty of times I'd have packages delivered where my old doorbell wouldn't have a recording, but the G410 has picked all of them up so far. -- Overall, I like the doorbell. It's one of the only viable options for battery-operated doorbells that also work with HomeKit Secure Video. As with any product, there are shortfalls that can be improved. I'm not a fan of Aqara removing features (HDR, cloud storage), but they also added new ones (wider field of view, mmWave, faster connection, integrated hub) while maintaining a similar price to what I paid for the G4. This new doorbell is typically discounted, but when I purchased mine, I received an additional 20% off, so it was a minor cost difference compared to the G4 (only about $20). I'll continue to update this review if my opinions change from long-term use, as the doorbell has only been up for 3 days at this point.

On paper, this should be one of the best doorbell cameras on the market. It has local storage, good resolution, separate chime box, and it has a Thread router that works with Homekit. In practice, though, it provides a really frustrating user experience. Getting it into Homekit is not a smooth process. I have the Aqara door sensors and they work perfectly and were very easy to add to Homekit, but this G410 was a very different experience. The app settings are a maze of poorly named and confusingly nested options that require lots of trial and error to adjust to your needs. Also, if you have another Thread controller in your Homekit setup, this doorbell will fight with it. Motion settings are tempermental at best and completely useless at worst. It just seems like they had good hardware that they mixed with half-baked software and decided to ship it anyway.
