  • Outstanding computer that is a bit 'heavy'
Capacity: 16GB Unified Memory | 512GB SSD Storage Color: Midnight Set: Without AppleCare+
A great new top-of-the-line MacBook Air 15" M5 can be configured to 4 TB storage, 32 GB Unified Memory, 10 core CPU and GPU, 16 core Neural Engine, and has a better web camera. Its power adapter has the braided cord with the small rounded 'brick' you plug into the wall, which is standard. Most people would not spec the computer up this high, and not sold on Amazon. So, you buy it from Apple for the custom configuration. Speakers are between that of 13" MacBook Air and14" MacBook Pro. Not much bass, but not overly irritating. The sound about as good as my M2 iPad Pro, but can get a little louder though. Battery life: Not much use yet, but battery life has always been Apple's strength compared to other brands. Wecam quality: Better than I've seen on any laptop or external display. It's like iPhone 5 video quality, but less noisy. The new effects through QuickTime work very well, new to the latest Tahoe update. Microphone quality is pretty good too, but does not pick up bass as well as on iPhones. Display quality: As good as Liquid Retina gets. it is probably better than OLED in some ways, in that OLED can be more straining on the eyes, and can cause excess heat, not to mention battery drain. I think OLED is a ways away on these portable computers, and the main purpose for OLED would be on TV, where you are sitting a distance from the display. The human eye generally cannot differentiate true black and true white, as the phenomenon done where you have color gridlines and the white squares appear grayish or light pastel. However, if working with HDR content from high-end cameras, Liquid Retina may be less ideal when doing color grading or working with 'fluorescent' scenery, such as 'Velveeta' grass, typically well-known to back in the day when people used Agfa film. Performance: Really fast, seems WiFi 7 is considerably faster than WiFi 6E. Programs start quickly. Internet is snappy. Thermal throttling is not a thing even with moderate use. You would have to push the hardware quite hard, say, converting 8K footage in Premiere Pro for around 10 minutes, warmth starts to become noticeable. This is one of the best notebook computers I've ever owned, and value wise, it beats the MacBook Pro in most areas. I would rate this product 9 out of 10, which is still five star review here, for a couple of reasons. It is not a lightweight computer, and is 95% the size of the 16" MacBook Pro. The other reason is the trackpad, as on all other Silicon models, is that dragging and dropping is difficult compared to the older Intel versions (I still have the 2014 MacBook Pro). You need a mouse for that. Highly recommended. I will be waiting for the MacBook Pro M6 Max, whether that's next year. ... show more

  • Stuck on Activation
Capacity: 16GB Unified Memory | 512GB SSD Storage Color: Silver Set: Without AppleCare+
Purchased brand new. Came stuck on the "Activate Mac" screen asking to select a WiFi option to connect to - but the menu didn't exist. Tried multiple reboots, full restore, and still nothing. Others on Reddit experiencing the same issue - if you buy this, go ahead and get a USB-C to Ethernet adapter to set it up if needed. I never made it to the Home Screen. My wife has the same model purchased directly from Apple and had no issues, so it varies by unit. With that bug aside, it’s an extremely efficient laptop thanks to the M5 chip and has a thin but very durable form factor. However, for the price - 60Hz refresh rate is dated and noticeable during use, 500 nits max brightness without HDR capability just barely meets an acceptable threshold, and the sensor related to dimming is extremely sensitive - held my hand up 2ft from the screen with ambient light from the sun and it dimmed rapidly to <50%. The same effect occurred on the 2025 MBP, though the dimming was significantly more incremental due to its higher 1000 nit brightness and settled at a level where the screen was still visible. These drawbacks are probably set to distinguish it from the MacBook Pro, but the $100 difference in the same 16GB RAM/512GB SSD M5 configuration for the MBP (purchased for $1347 on Amazon) that is now discontinued makes this a harder purchase to justify for the cost… which is probably why that config was discontinued when this was released. ... show more

I’m really impressed with this MacBook Air M5. It’s very fast, lightweight, and easy to carry around. The performance feels smooth for everyday work, browsing, multitasking, and even more demanding tasks. The battery life is excellent, the screen looks beautiful, and the laptop stays quiet while running. I also like that it starts with more storage, which makes it feel more future-proof. Overall, this is a premium laptop that feels reliable, modern, and well worth the money. ... show more
