    • Good microscope for the money . . . I guess
The magnification is great! I really want to love this Microscope. However, the biggest problem I have with the unit is the lens placement (for lack of a better phrase). On the end of the microscope closest to the slide, there are 3 lenses for different magnification. When you turn that lens set, there are dimples to lock the lens in place so it doesn't move when you are trying to look through it. On the unit I have, the notches are not aligned correctly. I have to force it out of alignment in order for the lens to be in the correct location to focus on the slide. If this wasn't a problem, I'd give it 5 stars. I am going to contact the manufacturer and see what they will do. If I get favorable results, I'll update my review. ... show more

I bought this for a Christmas gift for my grand daughter but decided to wait until her birthday instead. Her birthday is in June. Unfortunately, too much time has passed to return it. If you risk buying this get the product protection. We are unable to use this microscope because the part of the microscope that raises and lowers to focus in does not hold. We made sure all the screws were tight and things were as they should be but it doesn't hold. To top it off, the place it doesn't hold is right about where you need it to be to view whatever you are looking at. I was very disappointed. My grand daughter loves all things science so this was going to be a great tool for her to use. Back to my search for a better one. ... show more

    • Experiment requires additional items; not easy for kids
The brine shrimp experiment which was one of the highlights for our son requires yeast which was not included. It also requires an eyedropper which was not included. Those items are not necessarily household items. Sea salt was included so why wouldn't yeast be? The microscope itself is ok. It definitely cannot be operated by a child without adult help. Most of the negative reviews say the microscope didn't work; most likely, those reviewers didn't adjust the microscope properly. It is a tedious process and someone without experience using a microscope would find it difficult. Certainly, a young child wouldn't have the patience to slowly adjust the microscope until the item was able to be viewed. We wound up adjusting for our son and then letting him look when everything was all set. ... show more

This is a good beginning microscope for kids. Ours was unfortunately missing the book that was supposed to go with it. The body of the microscope is metal and durable. All of the magnification settings work nicely except for the 1200X which is extremely difficult or impossible to focus. Overall, it was an affordable gift for my daughters that they will be able to use and enjoy for many years. ... show more

Kid's gramma didn't like the zillion pieces, kid and her mom loved it. She's 5 and very curious about EVERYthing from princesses to science! Reminds me of my first microscope as a kid. Back when the microscope was heavy metal and the case was high end wood

This was a Christmas gift and the receiver was my 8 year old grandson. His mother put it away for now until the time comes for him to start educating himself in Science. Following the Zoom Classroom he is not there yet to experiment and share with his class.
