  • Great educational kid item
First all the kids wanted to check this out - the 6, 4 and 2 yr old. It was a gift for the 4 yr old. It keeps her attention and gives great bite sized info and facts about each thing. Each slide has 3 versions/stages of the theme or item - ie: dandelion, butterfly, housefly, blood cells. Bindi gives info and facts about each of the three images across the slide as the slide is moved to each image. The slides have sets of teeth in them to go into the slot on the scope. If it's not quote seated all the way you might end up with Bindi telling you about a different creature - ie: we learned this when the snowflake slide started talking about the black widow spider. Not a flaw, just user error - so some kids may have trouble at first getting the slides seated and then they have to be lifted out and the teeth put in for the next image in the slide. Sounds more complex the way I'm explaining - the 4 yr old caught on just fine. Kiddo now peppers me with facts about spiders and red blood cells. Over all it is higher quality than I expected and I'm QUITE pleased with it and would definitely buy it again for another kiddo and definitely recommend. ... show more

  • Great starter science toy for 4-year-old.
PROS: 1. First and foremost, the kid loves it, loves it, loves it. It's really the only talking toy I have found that has held this rambunctious 4-yr-old's attention independently for large chunks of time. 2. Appropriately sturdy and simple enough for 4-5 yr-old to manipulate without close supervision. 3. Good variety of slides - from insects to plants to such things as salt and blood cells. 4. Enough slides to keep occupied for a while but eventually the child will need to repeat, and that review and gaining of familiarity is when real incremental learning can take place. IMO, it's exactly the right number of starter slides. 5. Bindi, Bindi, Bindi!!! As the voice of the toy, her high young tone has an excited childlike quality, so my child completely took to this as 'playing with a fun friend' rather than being asked to sit still or learn something. Do I want to listen to her pitch for an hour? - maybe not so much, but it was genius for them to use her. Very effective for the kiddos. CONS: 1. The slides have a flat side and a grooved side and must go under the "microscope" magnifier flat side down or the notches don't fit in their slots to activate the sound. But you can't SEE the difference in one side vs. the other - you can only feel it. This can be difficult for a young child to perform and produces frustration when they're putting the slide in the right place but they can't get their pal Bindi to talk. I don't think this would be a problem for a 6-7 year old, but in the 4-5 age range, it's an issue. ... show more

  • Great for your little curious tots
Very good if you little curious tots. great picture quality and comes with many slides, perfect size and weight, and the talking feature makes it more functional. Believe it or not, this product helped me teach 3 years 3-year-old son the importance of washing hands, as he always argues that he doesn't have germs on his hands until he saw his little finger under this microscope ... show more

  • Fun and educational talking microscope!
This is by far one of the coolest products I’ve ever seen! My 4 year old loves this talking microscope! Every day while her baby sister naps I spend some quality one on one time with her and this was the perfect product for our special time together! She didn’t want to stop looking at all the different slides and I love how each slide has 3 images and the fact mode shares fun facts about the slide chosen! I love that she was learning new facts while looking at it up closely! She has been having so much fun using it and asks me daily to use her new microscope! This is such a great learning tool in a fun, different way for a 4 year old and it is a big win in my book especially because it can be used for many, many years! It also includes a quiz mode that we haven’t used yet but it’s nice that it has different modes for older kids. Highly recommend for all preschoolers and older kids! ... show more

  • Great idea, poorly built
I received 3 in a row that were broken. Returning 3rd one for a refund. There is a small drawer that holds the plastic slides in place. You gently push it in, until you hear a click to open and close the drawer (please see photo for reference). This part was broken on all 3. Therefore all of the slides are not secure and will fall out everywhere if the child decides to pick up the machine and take it elsewhere. There are plastic notches on the slides that fit tightly into the front of the microsope (please see photos for reference). Each one has different notches to tell the machine which slide it is, so the mechanical voice can give you information on that slide. An adult really needs to assist with this part. If a child were to try to forcefully push a slide into place if it weren't properly set, the plastic notches could easily break making that slide unusable. If the plastic pieces broke off inside the machine, then the machine would be unusable entirely. ... show more
