    • Great starter science toy for 4-year-old.
PROS: 1. First and foremost, the kid loves it, loves it, loves it. It's really the only talking toy I have found that has held this rambunctious 4-yr-old's attention independently for large chunks of time. 2. Appropriately sturdy and simple enough for 4-5 yr-old to manipulate without close supervision. 3. Good variety of slides - from insects to plants to such things as salt and blood cells. 4. Enough slides to keep occupied for a while but eventually the child will need to repeat, and that review and gaining of familiarity is when real incremental learning can take place. IMO, it's exactly the right number of starter slides. 5. Bindi, Bindi, Bindi!!! As the voice of the toy, her high young tone has an excited childlike quality, so my child completely took to this as 'playing with a fun friend' rather than being asked to sit still or learn something. Do I want to listen to her pitch for an hour? - maybe not so much, but it was genius for them to use her. Very effective for the kiddos. CONS: 1. The slides have a flat side and a grooved side and must go under the "microscope" magnifier flat side down or the notches don't fit in their slots to activate the sound. But you can't SEE the difference in one side vs. the other - you can only feel it. This can be difficult for a young child to perform and produces frustration when they're putting the slide in the right place but they can't get their pal Bindi to talk. I don't think this would be a problem for a 6-7 year old, but in the 4-5 age range, it's an issue. ... show more

    • Great beginner microscope for little kids
I bought this for my daughter last Christmas and she played with it a handful of times. It’s a great first microscope; an introductory one that spiked her interest into the microscopic world. However, it’s basically just zoomed in pictures rather than a microscope with magnification. Toys like these have very limited play time. Once a child knows all those information and have seen the slides a dozen times, it gets sidelined fast. On the other hand, she has another microscope which is handheld and she uses it often to look into bugs, leaves and other stuff. Endless exploration. Very good if you little curious tots. great picture quality and comes with many slides, perfect size and weight, and the talking feature makes it more functional. Believe it or not, this product helped me teach 3 years 3-year-old son the importance of washing hands, as he always argues that he doesn't have germs on his hands until he saw his little finger under this microscope ... show more

Loads of information and it works well. We help our little one with the slides bc she’s learning how to handle something like this (3 years old) but she really enjoys seeing the images and learns about the small things in our big world. The only issue is the drawer can stick a little when opening and closing so you have to be gentle with it. Slides go into place for viewing as they should. Truly a cool product! ... show more

Toy is as described. The slides don’t look very real and it only works with provided slides. For these reasons, my child got bored with this quite quickly. He preferred another microscope that doesn’t have pre recorded info because he likes that he can put real things under it and this one you can not. ... show more
