If your instructions don’t work, it’s not you, it’s the wrong instructions and they’ll NEVER WORK. I worked on this simple lock for HOURS with no avail!!!! One of the reviews used instructions from Kwikset but lacked the part for deleting the factory programming code. Here’s the FULL INSTRUCTIONS: here’s how to run the door handing identification process on your AmazonBasics Electronic Deadbolt: On the keypad, enter the preset Programming Code (0000). Next, press the Unlock / Lock button. Press 0, then press the Unlock / Lock button. You’ll hear the motor of the lock run, then stop after a few seconds, indicating the door handing identification process is complete. So that’s all you need to do to teach the lock the orientation of your door (door handing identification). How to Change the Default/Existing Programming Code on Your AmazonBasics Electronic Deadbolt? So after performing the door handing identification, the next thing you want to do is change the default Programming Code. As you probably know, this lock comes with a 4-digit default Programming Code (0000), and you’ll need to change the default code to ensure security. To change the default/existing Programming Code on your AmazonBasics Electronic Deadbolt, follow the steps below: Enter the default Programming Code (0000) and press the Unlock / Lock button. If you’ve previously changed the Programming Code, enter your current Programming Code and press the Unlock / Lock button. Press key 4, and then press the Unlock / Lock button. Enter a new Programming Code (4 digits), then press the Unlock / Lock button. If the lock flashes green twice and beeps twice, it means the operation is successful. So the new Programming Code is now in effect, and you can use it to program other functions in the lock. The only thing that this thing is missing is Wi-Fi connectivity so that way you can open with your phone remotely but what can you expect for this amount of money if you're looking for something simple that does the job this is the one.

We replaced an old Schlage BE369 with this one from Amazon. We originally intended to replace our Schlage with a new Schlage as it worked good for 5 years, but at 3x the price we decided to give the Amazon lock a try. It installed easily, and works great. The old Schlage had to be manually turned after entering the code, where this one uses the batteries to drive a motor that locks or unlocks the door. Reading other reviews, I expect this to reduce the battery life, but we have found the convenience of being able to push the code and have it unlock helps when carrying lots of items in out hands. If the battery replacement becomes an issue, I'll buy rechargeable batteries and post a follow-up.

This was easy to install, looks great, and operates easily too. I own a Kwikset version too that cost about 3 times as much. I'm very pleased by the price of this lock and satisfied with the quality of the hardware. This is used between my wet room and garage access door, so basically indoors so weather won't ever be an issue so I cannot comment on how it holds up to that. It has an auto-lock feature juat like our kwikset locks have, but I was pleasantly surprised that you can program the length of of time you prefer before that happens. My kwikset is 30 seconds and that is too short. I set this lock to 60 seconds before the autolock initiates and that works out a lot better for things like bringing in the groceries in several trips without needed to unlock the lock each time like I used to have to do. The only con, that is not horrible but noticeable, is that entering a code makes you do it slowly with a delay between each button push or it doesn't register the push, and also that after your last number you also have to click the lock button to make it unlock (which is an unnecessary extra step that my kwikset lock doesn't make me do), but once again that's not that bad. I recommend this lock as its price point delivers a great value.

I bought this because I had a client who was looking for a no frills electronic deadbolt and he had just converted his exterior hardware to the Kwikset Halifax Square style. This deadbolt fit right in, and I was able to key it to match the rest of his house. For the cost, it wasn't bad. With any electronic deadbolt, time will tell.

It's pretty, it works well, and the batteries last a long time. BUT the buttons are big rubber jobbies that require quite the finger press to get to register. If I had to do it again, I'd get one with a flat plate of numbers that are either touch sensitive or only require a slight push.
