As an Amazon Basics, I expected it to be suitable, but nothing more. However, this looks and feels like a very high quality patio heating appliance. It is well built, with heavy stainless steel, and works great. Of course, you're not going to heat a large area, but if you have a few chairs gathered near this, it will keep you warm in cool weather. If I run it on medium or high, I get about two nights of hanging out. That is about 6 hours, but I have not really timed it. That's about $10 of propane for a night on the patio. Seems fair.

Minus one star for complex assembly, starting with the sand that it easily takes 30-45min to scoop into the tiny opening. I was going to do water, but I went for sand when I saw how many people had leaks in theirs. So, after printing another reviewers corrections to Amazon's much maligned instruction manual, I realized that the powers-that-be in Casa de Bezos took heed and revised their version. The manual is quite accurate now. Things you will need: 1. time and patience 2. socket wrench 3. monkey wrench 4. step ladder 5. propane tank I wish I had paid the $100 for professional install. I'm too old for this. Once everything was assembled (took me two hours), I followed the "revised" lighting instructions. Took me four or five tries, but it lit. Currently typing this review from my deck, basking in the warmth. If you are on a completely open deck (mine is about 15x20), this thing can't change the laws of physics. You need to sit within a couple or three feet of it, whilst it is cranked to 75%. Careful, though. Too close and you'll melt. Currently 7pm, 45 degrees in Atlanta in November. I will now have full use of my deck during the fall and spring. I love this thing. Buy it, and pay for the professional install, cause you're getting old, but you know you need a warm back deck in your life. A note of caution when lighting: If you hold the black knob down for more than about 7 seconds while your are hitting ignition switch, you will get a flare up when it catches. If you're taller than 6' or 6'1, you could lose some hair. Be careful out there.

We love this. Purchased this for my porch. The whole thing is cool to the touch but awesome heat comes out the top. It does a good radius too.
