  • Works. Looks nice. Easy to use.
Looks like I’m one of the few that actually paid for this item rather than getting to review for free. Nonetheless it does everything intended. Just put a hook up though for the cable and plug rather than the thing it has for non use storage. Cable is too long for that and you’ll run over it in the garage. Better to have too long a cable than too short. That’s what she said. Don’t waste your money on the ones that are WiFi and whatnot for scheduled charges. Almost every car has a feature to schedule your charge for offpeak. ... show more

  • Appears to be well made. Only one minor installation issue.
After 7 years of charging a Chevy Volt at 3.3kw my old CT500 died shortly after I acquired a Bolt EV that charges at 7.2kw. At that time this AmazonBasics EVSE appeared as a new item at a very attractive price when compared to equivalent models from JuiceBox, ChargePoint, etc. This being a new item, I was concerned about the limited duration of the warranty and an Amazon Product Specialist recommended this 3 year Electronics Protection Plan from Asurion ASIN B07PBYLYDK and answered several other questions. My initial intent was to hard wire the unit but after opening it I decided to use the provided power cord instead. The shipping box and the printed circuit board are both marked with the LITE ON logo, an established brand in computer components. The exterior of the unit, the power cord and the charge cable all carry the UL logo as required for EVSEs by the NEC. The only installation issue I encountered is that the power cord is quite short and stiff requiring careful alignment of the unit relative to the NEMA 6-50R receptacle. During initial use I noticed that the charge cable became warm to the touch. My non-contact IR thermometer registered 20 degrees F higher than free air ambient. The power conductors in the charge cable are marked 10 AWG which seemed light to me. However, the NEC permits 10 AWG conductors to carry more than 32 amps provided that the temperature rating of the cable is at least 60 degrees C, which this cable is. I was surprised to find that the charge cable conductors in my old commercial caliber CT500 are also 10 AWG. I probably never noticed a temperature rise with that cable because it was carrying lower power and the circumference of that charge cable is so much greater. Since this purchase, I noticed another new EVSE (ASIN B07FY1181C) from PowerCharge with the same outward appearance as this one, a 3 year warranty and a 25' charge cable. The current price difference is about $100. Not unreasonable for the longer charge cord and longer warranty. ... show more

  • Fast but Bulky
First of all, we love being able to run our new EV charger at home. We had to do a bit of electrical work to supply the dedicated amperage and plug capabilities...and I wish it were just a bit closer to 40amps, but even still for overnight charging it works great. Because we have the station set up -in- our garage, the ability to run the long cable is very important for us and 18' feels short somehow! And yet, the biggest challenge isn't the length but the flexibility of the cable overall. It's quite rigid and wants to coil up so it's like wrestling a very aggressive snake every time I drag it out to the car to plug in. In that vein I wish there was a wall hanging adapter to take some of the shear pressure off of the cable so the connections don't wear when it's not in use. Because it's so heavy I am concerned that over time the weight may cause separation. I installed a separate hook to help offset some of this weight. Cable management issues aside, however, we are very pleased and recommend this. ... show more

  • suddenly stopped working
It worked fine for about a year and then suddenly stopped working. The unit itself is plugged in but there is no power. I thought it may have tripped a circuit, but that wasn't it either. Is there a trouble shooting manual (I didn't see any trouble shooting tips in the product manual)?

  • Simply works!
I wanted a simple charging station for my car without an inflated price and a bunch of bells and whistles. Just plug it in and it's ready to charge. Most charging stations seem to be way overpriced and packed with wifi and timers. Most EVs have apps and timers built in already. Don't see the need to be redundant. This charging station feels well built. Just mounted the metal plate to the wall and secured the unit to it. Plug it in to the 'dryer' style 240v plug and ready to go. The cable and plug feel nice and sturdy. Plug release button feels quality as well. I also like the holster and cable holder that mounts to the wall. If you do not use this method, the plug comes with an attached rubber cap to protect the plug end. The only downside I could see is the insanely bright green light that stays on all the time. Turns blue when charging and pulsing green when finished. But in standby mode it is crazy bright green (most notable at night of course). It is not in a place to bother me personally, but it does draw a lot of attention while passing by. I usually shut the breaker off during the week when not in use. Otherwise, great quick charging on my Nissan Leaf that takes around 4 hours to fully charge. ... show more

  • Great value and easy to use
No frills charger that charges and looks nice. It’s a really good value when compared to ChargePoint. Very easy to use.
