  • A new cap design and excellent performance on the range, it's bad to the bone!
Style: QRP2 Mount and Spacer
The media could not be loaded. This is a marvelous red dot scope that provides exceptional shooting performance on the range. It is ultra-high quality and easy to sight in and use. This is a new design with changes to the caps that cover the elevation, windage and battery compartments. There are some good and some bad changes. The keeper strap is also changed for this newer design. The elevation and windage caps are now the same ones that they put onto the military Aimpoint versions. The caps are slotted and easy to remove using simply a coin like a quarter to tighten them down or to remove them. The three legged rubber style keeper strap is gone and there are smaller rubber keeper straps connected to the windage and elevation caps so that when you remove them they simply lay to the side while you make your adjustments and this is a nice change. Again I just used a quarter. The battery compartment cap is also changed with a knurled edge so you can unscrew it easily but there is no retaining strap at all. I was so upset I called Aimpoint and they told me that no one ever loses their battery cap cover. This is BS and I can see people at the range, outdoors or in the military losing the cap and thus the Aimpoint Pro sight is no longer working. Heck I tightened the battery cover pretty tight and after 200 rounds it was loose just from gun vibration. This is a flaw IMHO of their design and they probably saved a nickel. It needs a strap and that is my only complaint about the scope. This is an expensive piece of hardware and it needs a security strap on the battery cover. I looked at Eotech and Aimpoint and I went with Aimpoint because I liked the quality better. The red dot is a 2 MOA red dot and it allows for precise targeting. Even when using a 3X multiplier the dot is still small and it doesn't occlude your target downrange while you are shooting. I love that the included battery has a battery life of 3 years if left on all the time. That is on level 7 which is good for most shooting conditions. That is amazing. It is designed for law enforcement and even many military people use it as it is always ready. Grab your rifle and lift it up to your eye and the sight is always on. The red dot has 10 levels of brightness and at 9 and 10 you can get some red feedback into the scope. The bottom four levels are designed for use with night vision optical devices. Level 7 is shown on the rheostat dial with a white dot that aligns up with a white dot on the battery compartment. (See my video) The scope comes with flip up front and rear covers. The rear cover has clear center so you can use the scope with the cover down but the front scope is solid black plastic. Are your ready for some magic? Grab your rifle and sight through it with both covers closed. Yes closed! Sight down field with both eyes open as you should always do. Your right eye sees the red dot on the inside back cover of the scope and your left eye sees down field the target and the red dot is super imposed onto the target. How is that done? Your mind transfers the red dot position into your field of vision and it is dead on accurate. Even with the lens cap closed the sight works! In battle, police situations and home defense you may not remember to turn on a red dot or flip up the covers. With the Aimpoint Pro the sight is already on and you can shoot with the covers down! I can't show this in my video but it works perfectly! This allows for very fast sighting of a target even if you forget to open the lens caps and turn the unit on (As it should be always left on). The sight comes with a high quality mount that has a large tool-less tightening knob on the side for your mounting to your gun's rail. The knob is torque-limiting and as you pick the location on your rail that you want to use and then tighten the knob until it clicks 3 times and it is tight. After 200 rounds at the range I turned the knob and it easily clicked again so after a lot of use you should check the tightness of the scope. In my video I flip up my Vortex 3X scope and I sight through the rear lens cap when it is down. The scope has very nice lens caps on it and they are spring loaded and a little push and they pop up. The Aimpoint has no magnification and it is ideal to co register with your iron sights. In my case I mounted a Vortex 3X scope on the rail and I don't have enough space for a Magpul flip up sight. With the scope flipped up the Aimpoint is ideal for close combat with easy target acquisition. With the scope down you are deadly accurate with your shots at long range. At 25 and 30 yards I was shooting 5 shot patterns within a ¾ of an inch spread while standing up with my one arm resting on the bench top at a range. I was shocked. I show this in my video. This is mill spec quality. The lenses are recessed for protection and to avoid getting finger prints on them. The lenses are optically coated and the internal space is purged and filled with inert dry gas to prevent fogging of the lens on the inside. It is also waterproof to 150 feet of submergence. I won't go swimming with my rifle but it is nice to know that the rain will not bother the red dot sight. Before I went to the range I used my SightMark laser cartridge and sighted in the Aimpoint scope. That gets me on the paper. At the range it was then easy to sight into the bull's eye and maintain tight patterns in my shooting. In my video I show the red dot on level 7 settings and on level 10. I also show my working targets from the range. This is an excellent product with superior performance for me. I am 65 years old and shot those targets standing up. The Aimpoint sight made all of the difference and I recommend it highly. I rated it at 5 stars. I liked this optic so much that I went back and purchased a second one for another rifle. I would only own one of two different optics and this is one of my top two choices based on my shooting experiences. I love the battery reliability and the ruggedness of the sight design. I shoot indoors and outdoors and I like how it does not fog up easily due to temp changes. I haven’t even had to change the battery yet as the battery life is so good. It was easy to install and easy to sight in for great shooting accuracy. The mount is solid and stable and I only occasionally tighten it after shooting several hundred rounds. The accuracy has not varied at all since I have installed it and shot it at the range multiple times. This device is rugged, accurate and stable. It is a top quality sight. The accuracy of the sight has not varied regardless of whether I am shooting indoors, where it is warm, or outdoors in cold weather. ... show more

  • Very nice optic, awesome customer service, 5 stars!
Style: QRP2 Mount and Spacer
First off, this is my first RDS. I have done a bit of research over the last few weeks and felt like the AIMPOINT PRO was the best option for me when it came to my needs, and my budget. This optic is now mounted on my Colt LE6920, and is used for occasional range shooting, as well as HD. I knew that I wanted a quality optic, so I narrowed it down to 3 companies, EOTech, Trijicon and of course AIMPOINT. Trijicon has some very nice optics, but a bit out of my budget range. The EOTech's are quite nice, but between the battery life, as well as the recent report of them not fairing well in lower temperatures, I decided to focus more on AIMPOINT. The T1 with a LaRue QD mount was very nice, but also a bit more than I wanted to spend. The PRO seems to offer the same quality, albeit in a slightly larger/heavier package, but at a fraction of the cost. So, I watched the prices at a few sites, and then as I expected, during the recent holiday's the PRO was a bit less expensive. Amazon had the best price for me (considering Prime). So, I placed my order. Two days later it was in my hands! Immediately, I noticed it was a bit different than about 95% of the photos on the web of the PRO, however, as of the beginning of 2015, some changes were made. The newer version does not include the bra strap that connected the windage, battery and elevation caps. Instead, the windage and elevation caps each have their own keeper straps, while the battery cap has none. As well, the print on the actual optic is a bit different. The number "12841" is no longer printed on the optic, and instead just "Patrol Rifle Optic" with the serial number is printed below it. Other than this, the optic appears to be the same as before, including the mount. Also included in the box was the laminated instruction booklet, a service reminder sticker, and a single Duracell DL1/3N battery. Installing the battery was a cinch (just don't lose the cap!), and of course mounting the optic to my rail was a snap. I opted to put it as far forward as possible (actually 1 notch back than what is in the photos). Using the included mount, securing the optic on the rail was very easy, as well as removing it. I like this mount, and while a LaRue would be nice, I think I am going to be quite happy with this one, despite the large knob (which really doesn't seem to get in the way so far). I also like the caps that cover the elevation and windage adjustments. Quite easy to tighten or loosen with just my fingers, and they are sealed so water will not enter (assuming I tighten the covers down). I think I like this design better than what I was expecting with the older style. Just as expected, the settings work great. I find that 7 or 8 is a better setting for me personally in lighted areas. 9 is ok, with very little feedback in the tube, while 10 has an enormous amount of bleeding going on all around the optic. Of course, the first 4 settings are NV compatible, so they are useless to me at this point. Glad they are there though. As for the dot, it is nice, however, I was expecting a perfect circle. This dot is not that. Could be the optic, or more likely my personal vision. To me it looks like a simple laser dot, that is mostly round, with a couple of small streaks. All in all, I am not disappointed with the dot and at this point, have no reason not to want to keep it as is. I like it a lot! I also found the optic very easy to use, and seemingly quite fast to get on target with. Even more so, I am blown away at how I really can leave the front cover closed, yet with both eyes open, be able to both see the target, and put the red dot on it! This is just amazing... Love it. So while I have only had it for 24 hours, I am very pleased with it. I got it for $377 here on Amazon (Prime), and feel the money was well spent. After reading the many reviews, as well as putting my own hands on the optic, I don't feel like I made a bad decision at all. And to top it all off, their CS is outstanding! To be sure, I sent these same photo's, along with the serial number to AIMPOINT last night, via email, to verify this was the real deal and not a knock off (I am quite leery of knock offs, especially here on Amazon). Rather than a follow up email, I actually got a phone call from one of the reps today to let me know that this was the real deal, 100% AIMPOINT PRO! That was music to my ears, both in the fact that they took the time to actually contact me in person, as well as to know without doubt that mine in particular is real. At this point, the AIMPOINT PRO gets a very solid 5 star rating from me. Saying that though, this is still brand new, and mine in particular is untested by me. After some time I will update this with some more info and adjust as needed. Until then, if you are thinking about the PRO, go for it! I am certainly glad I did! UPDATE: 12/5/2015 I took my AR out today to zero in the PRO. Unfortunately, mine was pretty bad off out of the box. It took me about 10 rounds to figure out where I was as I was not even on paper. Eventually though, I made it on paper, and after another 30 or so rounds, I was pretty happy with the results. I was shooting from 25 yards, using an "Adjusted 25 yard target for a 50 yard zero." As of right now, I am ok with the settings, however, I am not sure if I want a 50 yard zero for my needs. I am planning to get a Troy flip up rear sight around Christmas and will then have to go back out and zero the iron sights. At that time I may rezero the PRO for a simple 25 yard zero... Anyway, adjusting the PRO was very easy. I used a penny and a nickel, both seemed to work equally well. The clicks were distinct enough to feel and I was able to easily count them. As I said though, at first, I wasn't even on paper, which I was quite low. I bet I turned the elevation up about 25 or more clicks... I just wonder how much is left... If I do decide to go with a 25 yard zero, I will need to turn it up even more. I was shooting around 1 pm this afternoon, on a nice, clear, sunny day. I was actually shooting in the same direction as the sun, however, it was still high in the sky. I used the 8th setting and found it to be easily bright enough for me to see. Also, before leaving the house this morning, I noticed that there does seem to be some movement of the red dot who my head moves. I am a bit fuzzy on all of this, but as I understand it, this is parallax, and these RDS are supposedly parallax free. In some reading, it seems that nothing is truly parallax free, even these optics. I am not trying to knock it, but I am realizing that while it may be simple enough to raise the gun, put the red dot on it and shoot, there just may be a little more to it... However, I look forward to learning how to use it... So, until I get more time in, I will leave an additional pic of the groupings I was getting with it at 25 yards, keeping in mind, I was attempting zero at 50yds, which meant I aimed a little higher than where I intended to hit the target. (Also, mine are the shots in the middle, not the ones at the bottom... it was a used target). ... show more
