  • Does The Job
I love sitting out on my deck. But the cold weather always brings an end to that. So I decided to invest in a patio heater to extend my ‘deck time’ later in the year. After searching a bit, I ordered this patio heater by GDY. I selected this particular patio heater for a couple of reasons…one of which didn’t pan out. Firstly, I liked the fact this heater had wheels. We tend to sit on different parts of the deck, and the wheels would make the task of moving it so much easier. And secondly , I chose this particular heater because the description stated it included a ‘rain cover’. Now, I figured a rain cover would be a vinyl cover for the whole unit…it’s not. The ‘rain cover’ refers to the metal shade on the top of the heater. That was very misleading. Assembling the patio heater wasn’t hard at all. The directions were clear, and everything pretty much lined up and fit where it should. The big problem was getting the protective film off the parts. What a nightmare. My heater was out in the garage where it was cold, so that made the job a lot more difficult. I would suggest putting the pieces inside where it’s warm before attempting to peel off the protective film. It does make it easier. Another note on assembly…use your own tools. There is a wrench/screwdriver in the box, but it’s pretty much useless. The heater is very easy operate…its just a dial and an igniter. And it does the job of heating my deck very well. The part of the deck we normally sit on is like 9’x9’, and it pretty much heats the entire area. When it’s like 50 degrees out, it will be very comfortable out there. Just a word of warning if you live in an area that is prone to high winds like where I am. The heater is very top-heavy. Even with a full propane tank in it, it can tip. Luckily, it has safety features built in to turn it off if it does. And there’s no real way to weigh it down since the base is pretty much the same size as the propane tank. What I did was put a barbell weight on the base and set the tank on top of that. It seems to work, but keep an eye on it. I’m pretty much happy with my new patio heater….especially since I ordered a real ‘rain cover’ for it. It’s easy to operate….looks good…and heats my patio well. I would probably order another one like it. ... show more

  • Perfect for our patio! Large! Puts off lots of heat, easy to use
This Propane Patio Heater is much larger than we expected and it will definitely work well for both commercial and residential purposes. Assembly was fairly easy and there were clear written instructions and pictures to follow. This heater can also be disassembled for storage very quickly. We assembled most of this propane heater inside of the house but it is too tall to add the large heat reflector on top in the house. It is also too large to use on any of our 3 covered porches but is perfect for the patio. The base has wheels on one side so this propane heater is easy to move around when needed. Once completely assembled, the battery installed (it was included), and the propane tank was hooked up, we simply pushed the start button, heard the familiar clicks, and the propane heater lit up immediately. It took a minute or so for the head to get fully lit. The propane heater puts off a lot of heat and I can feel it standing several feet away even in very cold temperatures. It has some safety features that will shut the fire off automatically, such as tipping and overheating. The hole in the side of the canister is plenty large enough to easily access the top of the propane tank if you need to turn it off quickly. Peeling the blue film off of the metal reflector did take two of us about 20 minutes but it did protect the metal reflector shield very well. I found one very small dent in the reflector shield but no other damages were noted to the entire Propane heater. The gas hose could have used another 1-2" in length and we did struggle just a little bit to hook the line to the tank but once connected, it was tight and there was no leaking of gas. I would definitely purchase this propane heater again. ... show more

  • Does the job on cold winter days when Coronavirus keeps you from gathering inside.
Arrived packaged in a box that's approximately 30" by 18" by 18", so a fair bit of assembly is required, and it took just over 1.5 hours to put it together at a casual pace, with about 10 minutes of that time being removal of the protective film from the stainless reflector. Removing this film was probably the most time consuming of all the steps and maybe even the most frustrating, if I'm being honest. However, I would rather have the film than not - it really helped to keep the reflector from getting to be a scratched and fingerprinted mess during assembly. The instruction manual does say it should be removed before hand, but I chose to pull it all back just far enough that I could get the reflector assembled and in place on the burner. I removed it all as my very last task. So, what is included and what is not? Well, all the heater parts are in the box, obviously, and a good number of them (except the burner and reflector) are finished in a very attractive hammered black paint. Then there is the instruction manual and a package of hardware that includes a rather basic wrench. However, the only way this wrench could get you by is if you had no other tools to hand at all. In reality you at LEAST need a pair of pliers, but two additional metric wrenches (10mm and 14mm) are the way to go for snugging up the nuts and bolts. And then you need a Phillips head screwdriver, which is definitely NOT included. I chose to throw out the basic wrench and use my own tools, and would suggest you do the same if you already have 2 of each size wrench available. Aside from the aforementioned Phillips screwdriver, another thing not included in the box is a propane tank. Not even an empty one. Now, I can't personally imagine anyone thinking you would get a tank in a package like this, and I certainly wouldn't expect it. But it's worth mentioning because if you don't already have a spare tank that needs refilling, you are probably looking at an extra $50-60 at your local hardware store or gas station to purchase one. If you have an empty tank already, I think the last time I purchased a refill it was about $20. Thankfully, for some reason we always seem to have an empty tank or two on hand (which is weird because we only have one gas barbecue). And how does it work? Beautifully! ... show more
