I bought a similar but larger incubator a year ago that I've used 3 times. I've found that incubator to be far better than my previous (styrofoam type) ones. The materials and electronics are a huge leap ahead for incubators. You can see everything that is going on, it is ultra-simple to operate, and very sturdy. Best of all these incubators monitor everything and hold the temperature exactly where you select at all times. This incubator is preset to heat to 100.4, vs the other I have is set to 99.5. I'll have to do some research to try and decide what's better. Lots of haggling about that, but you can set as you please. The instruction book on this one is good and thorough unlike the earlier versions. Also, the listing page has a factory sponsored setup video which is good, but fast. You may need to slow it down and watch a couple of times, but then you should have all you need for setup. Setup is not hard, but you have to remove one part to install a plastic cog. I imagine this is left out to prevent damage during shipping, and also so you'll now how to remove it should you want to when the egg-turner is removed. Not difficult, and I'm posting a close up photo of the area to slide in that cog. It comes with two turners, one for chicken, another for goose or giant birds of whatever sort. That's another thing that differs on this incubator: you leave the eggs on their side all the time. Typically, old turners had the eggs upright, with the pointed end down, and rotated them side to side slowly. With this, the egg remains flat, and the turner rolls it every 60, 120, ir 180 minutes. Preset to 120 minutes. I think this will work fine, as it is the way an actual hen rolls eggs. Another difference with this unit is two small water bottles instead of 1 larger one. It is designed for you to add the second bottle at the final 3 day period to increase humidity. Good feature. It one way, the incubator is almost too smart. When I set this up to test, I did not add water for humidity. When the egg turner activated, the incubator set off a beeper to alert me to the low humidity. Smart, but might be something to be aware of if this is in the house overnight. Just make sure to keep water in your bottle. On this test run, the incubator started up flawlessly, and hit the preset temp in under 10 minutes, and locked it in. The turner activated right on schedule. I won't be able to put eggs in for about 2-3 weeks for the real test, but I'm initially giving it 5 stars because it performs great during setup, and I'm pretty confident based on experience. Lastly, don't look at that "egg candling" light directly without an egg over it. Its extremely bright.

I ordered this a couple of months ago, and am finally getting a chance to use it. Part of the power supply cord was missing, but since it's been a couple of months since I ordered it, and we removed it from the package when it first came in, I can't be 100% sure it wasn't in there to begin with. Luckily, my husband never throws anything away, so we had another 12v power supply cable to start it up. It's small enough to fit on your counter. The instructions for set up and operation are very clear, making it easy to use. There's a handy little chart that tells you optimal temp and humidity depending on the type of eggs you are trying to hatch. There are two trays included, allowing you to use it with a variety of eggs. It will hold 16 regular sized chicken eggs. It has a built in light on top for candling the eggs and the included chart tells you which days to do it. There are pics of bad eggs so you know what to look for and can pull those out as time goes by, making it incredibly easy for even a beginner Chicken Tender to use. It's extremely quiet, with just a minimal amount of noise from the eggs turning. You can't hear it at all when they are not. I just started my first batch of eggs, and will update this review in 21 days. So far, it's an inexpensive and easy to use incubator and I can't wait to see my first batch of babies!

Setting up the incubator is straightforward. The temperature display can be switched to Fahrenheit with one button press, and the incubation time can be adjusted with a few button presses. The candler is adequate for most eggs, but it struggles to penetrate darker shells, like those of Black Marans. The twist-off removable top is a good feature. It is easy to open, even with limited use of one hand. However, if there are mobility or dexterity issues, the experience may vary. The turning gear needs to be inserted inside the unit. Lifting the lid to add eggs is easy once the gear is in place. The removable motor/heater unit requires cleaning with the included dry brush, and it is not washable. The remaining parts are hand-washable. The motor itself turns the eggs at timed increments, which can be adjusted. The design includes two water reservoirs that pop into the incubator like LEGO bricks to attach standard water bottles. This design provides better control over humidity levels for both dry and wet hatches in a smaller incubator. A water bottle screws into the "LEGO" looking piece and flips over to dispense water. One bottle was used, and a second half-filled bottle is planned to be added later. The plug is not polarized. The unit reached the desired temperature quickly. The alarm triggered when the user took too long placing the quail eggs inside. A quick button press silences the alarm. The jumbo quail eggs fit snugly, so the user avoided doubling them up in the cells. For standard or smaller quail eggs, two per cell could likely fit. An extra gear for the top motor would be ideal. Also, a dedicated quail egg cell would be a fantastic addition. Overall, the incubator is running smoothly and has maintained consistent temperatures. The ease of setup was refreshing. This incubator is an excellent choice for a first-time user or anyone looking to hatch smaller batches of eggs.

This is a very cute little starter incubator for adults or kids. It's small but holds several chicken eggs or quail eggs, perfect for a small beginning breeder or someone wanting to hatch out some eggs in a classroom. It was very easy to get set up and held both temperature and humidity steady for the entire 18 and 21 day incubation times. I love how hands off it is, so I never forget to do something and accidentally mess up the hatch, and it runs very very quietly so I can have it on a bedside stand and not be kept awake by it at all. Very happy!
