Excellent variable speed pump at a great price! I purchased the 2.5 HP pump and had my poolman install it. Even the poolman was impressed with the pump and all its features and ammenities at that price range. He was particularly impressesed with the ease to install and to program it, and with the pump's run dry automatic switch off safety system that protects pump and impeller from accidental run dry on install, from air bubbles in piping, and from pool water drops in droughts. It rains a lot here and there is year round hot, humid, tropical weather where I live, so he really liked the pump's protective housing that offers additional protection to its electrical components and protects pump from rusting out prematurely. He told me that energy wise, this pump should consume as much as a 90 Watt to a 100 Watt light bulb to operate, so that is alsoexcellent news! The pump is very quiet and does an excellent job at circulating all the water through the filtration system. My pool is inground, kidney bean shaped, and within the 8,000 to 10,000 gallon range including its inground hot tub / jacuzzi. I run the pump normally between speeds 2 and 3 and use speed 4 for small sprints mainly for clean up work to avoid damaging ribs in celaton filter system. Around 2-months in now from pump install and no issues with the pump's performance. I will try to update comment after a couple of years to confirm durability.

I should have bought this sooner. I have had my pool for nine years and replaced the single speed pump once. It was time to replace the liner in the pool and my pool liner replacement guy told me about the variable speed pumps and how they are so much better for your water and your liner. He said not to replace it until I needed to but when I did, to go with the variable speed pump. I didn't when we initially had the pool put in because they were so expensive. I looked on amazon and found this pool pump and decided I might as well replace it along with the new liner. It was so easy to swap this pump from the old one. If you are wanting to take care of your own pool, go to youtube and watch swimming pool steve and you will learn a lot about caring for your pool, the water flows, etc. I have no affiliation with him or his channel but he is super informative and that's where I have been going to "pool school". LOL! This pump is super easy to program. I waited for a few weeks of it running to be sure my review would be correct and I just keep kicking myself every day for not getting it sooner. It's so much quieter than the old pump and saves money with reduced draw but also keeps moving the water continuously so it's better for your pool. Stop waiting and just do it!!!!!

The pump works well, but for some reason the basket will not fill completely with water and there are no suction leaks because there's no air coming into the check valve just before the pump. Second reason for 2 stars is that the clock doesn't keep correct time; it runs a few minutes fast each day so setting a schedule is pointless since the pump will kick on at the wrong time. July 16, 2025 update: I contacted VarPoolFaye's customer service and they were very helpful and sent a new pump controller which takes a couple minutes to install - remove 4 screws, then unplug the old controller, plug in the new one, put the 4 screws back in. Only reason for 4 stars still is that the basket won't run full on regular filter mode, but it will when I'm backwashing.

Updating this to 5 stars from 4. Just put the black wire where the original one was one the supply, white and green the same. Installed it yesteday and it was easy once I realized the piping reducers included 2 of the 3"and two 2-1/2" adapters. Setup was a breeze. It's so quiet and plenty of adjustable power. The controls menu is easy, you can start the pump on/off or program it. I'm still very impressed, and updated this (12/13/2025) after using for awhile. And yay, with the included reducers i can return about $60 worth of unneeded pvc to Lowes! Also - props to the company's customer service department who helped with a small issue (on my side); they were very kind and responsive.

One star because of the price. Bough this one at 373 usd in march 2025.... now in december 2025 price is 570 USD. Trump tarrif may weight but not that much. At this price point it is an abuse, get yourself a pentair with support, spare and warranty. On the pump itself it has been working good at speed 2 for month, electricity bill did lower a lot (100usd per month) so the pump is already paid for. When selecting at speed 4 for long run my electric panel disconect so it is not flawless.

The pump is very quiet, easy to program schedules based on your pool needs. Customer support is great, you will get someone to answer your questions and if you call the manufacturer, they will answer your call and help you with your concerns, questions and product support. If their office is closed due to holiday or out of office during the weekend, they will call you as soon as they open.
