I mean, the unit itself is a plug with a Bluetooth chip so it's great. The impressive part of this tool is the associated software. I use android and I was blown away at the real time and diagnostic applications as well as the instant connection to the internet when you have your code(s) to help diagnose the problem. I have had other scanners but they were not this powerful. This is a very high end amateur tool that could probably do just as well in a professionals toolbox. Having a background in port fuel injection diagnostic and efi (GM Trained) I can tell you this unit is complete and comprehensive. Check out the photos above for the items and conditions it monitors and checks. I plugged this in and it immediately sent me to the code for the bad gas cap I knew I had, and with a click straight to the internet for a description of the code and possible solutions and a parts supplier (one of the brand names that has codes on their website.). Everything is intuitive and seamless, love this little device. Tomorrow we get into the Hyundai. Oh, the above pics were parked in a 2009 Jeep Liberty Sport with 110,000 miles.

I use this reader every time I get a check engine light or when something happens with one of my vehicles. It allows me to pull the codes before I go to the mechanic so I can research how much it should cost. This is also small enough that it doesn't take up a whole lot of room in my toolbox in the garage. I also use the code reader to see if there's also a possibility of me being able to fix it before taking it to the mechanic. as I said as I said in the title the reader has paid for itself.

I was delighted to find out that the scanner does work with third party apps such as Torque Pro. Of course, the scanner does have its own app, which works reasonably well. It'll give you a basic OBD 2 scan for most generic trouble codes. However, I was also able to use it on my Cadillac ELR using an app called My Green Volt to check on the battery status and charging status of the vehicle. It connected flawlessly to the app and worked perfectly. The same was true with Torque Pro. I was able to talk to the perfectly and it worked without any issues. I think that every weekend warrior should have one of these scanners because they can be very helpful.

We used this when we were used car shopping so we could test the cars we were interested in purchasing. We also had our own mechanic who also tested the car so we could see if this was being accurate. Our mechanic was quite impressed after matching his results with what this said was wrong, if anything. It is so easy to use, takes about one minute to locate where it needs to go and insert it. Just below steering wheel and slightly to the left is where you find this on most cars. No getting dirty under hood or under car. My mechanic said it was quite accurate to what he saw in his inspection.

First, the good. This Bluetooth OBDII code reader is easy to set up and use, and the included app is intuitive and user friendly. The device has red and green indicator lights, which I found useful to let me know if it had power and connectivity. The app provides the basic core functions including checking and clearing MIL codes, reading live data, reporting battery and charging system voltage, trip data, and vehicle performance benchmarks. This latter function includes acceleration and braking time as well as distance. This app offers all three tests on one screen, which gives it a slight advantage over similar apps which relegate each benchmark to its own separate display. The app also includes a code-lookup function so you can finally find out what "P0168" actually means (and presumably you're aware that any scanned codes merely point in the general direction of your problems rather than explicitly defining an exact cause). Now for the cons. The code reader and its app are able to retrieve your VIN without any user input, but you will still need to manually enter your vehicle make and model, as well as engine size and curb weight. The trip data function, while useful, doesn't seem to have a manual start and stop toggle. The "dashboard" feature, which allows real-time monitoring of speed, RPM, and engine temp, does not offer much customization or additional data. This is a disadvantage compared with similar apps and competitive devices; others in the field allow not only a broader range of information to display but also allow the user to select a "heads-up display" mode for safety while driving. For these features to be absent gives this app a poorer score relative to others in its class. Unsurprisingly, this device does not allow scanning of codes relating to ancillary vehicle systems such as the ABS, SRS, or tire pressure sensors. I find that you generally need to pay more for a higher-end device if you want to access these readings, but the absence here contributes to an overall lower score for my use case. At ground level I'm unlikely to reach for this scanner as my first option when I need a code reader. There isn't anything really WRONG with it per se, but there are other devices of competitive quality that offer a broader range of features in a similar package, price, and data footprint. Another noticeable disadvantage for this dongle is that it's compatible only with its own native app. This is not really a "con" since many devices at all price points operate similarly. The issue here is that you may already be running an app such as Dash Command, InCarDoc, or another 3rd party OBDII program, and if you were looking for a Bluetooth reader to integrate with your existing system this won't be it. Generally speaking I don't have an issue with the efficacy or accuracy of the readings I've thus far obtained with the device. While you can probably do better in terms of feature set, if you're simply looking for something to toss in the glove box and forget about until your check engine light comes on, or a device to provide a second opinion for another scanner you're using, this unit will perform acceptably in that role. UPDATE 5/19/24: I just want to clarify that I like the app. If I didn't have anything to compare it to, I wouldn't know what I was missing. I have noticed that this app works offline, though I haven't tested the code lookup function offline yet. I also realized today that this app will let you know how much gas you have left in your tank. It's under the PID or live data reporting, in a line-item called "fuel reported by system" or something along those lines. I haven't noticed that particular data point in other apps. There is still room for improvement with this unit and its app, and that keeps it from being a 5 start product. But I don't hesitate to stand by my 4 star assessment.
