  • Heavy duty! Works great inside my Hummer!
Heavy duty, quality product!

  • High priced but works.
Installed this carrier on a Tyger brand cargo basket. I believe it will work with most any cargo basket with the right modification. I simply marked the back plate where new bolts should be run, then stopped by a machine shop and had them drill new holes for me. If you have a drill press, you can probably do it at home, but the shop only charged me $10. Not bad for a clean looking set up. The carrier itself has a pretty thick powder coat on it and is nice and sturdy. I appreciate the design elements they implemented, such as a carrier bolt to prevent the wheel plate from spinning out of place and the ability to lock it. All in all, it's pretty high priced for what it is, but it seems sturdy and well designed. I hope that this thing proves its worth by lasting us a good long while. For what it's worth, this carried my wife's full spare from Texas to Alaska without any issues. ... show more

  • Nice roof basket mount solution
The Yakima Spare Tire Carrier is a lot more beefy and heavy duty than I anticipated. All of the components are well made. Once clamped down tightly on the tire/rim, everything seems very sturdy and secure. I originally though it was a little overpriced, but after seeing the quality of the parts, I think it's a pretty good value. The ability to padlock the large screw-down piece is a welcome feature. I am using it to secure a 215/70R-16 Grabber AT2 to a cargo basket on a 2005 Forester. Speaking of which, for anyone with a Curt cargo basket (like me), this Yakima mount *juuust* fits, with a little muscle. The spacing is a little more narrow on the bottom bars, so the mounting screws go in (again just barely) at an angle. With everything tightened down, however, the base plate (as well as everything else) seems very secure. I will certainly be checking on this during upcoming trips to make sure this remains true. I may end up re-drilling the holes on the baseplate at a later time. For a Yakima rack this was designed for, I have no doubt that it fits perfectly with little effort to attach. ***UPDATE*** After 14 months+ of driving, some of which were up to 1600 mi round trips, as well as rough off roading, the Yakima Spare Tire Carrier is on as solid as the day I installed it. I have had the spare off multiple times (it actually gets rotated with my other 4 tires), so it certainly has seen some use. Highly recommended. Based on its performance, I'm bumping it up a star (although I wish I could 1/2 a star because I still think it's a little overpriced for what it is, but oh well). ... show more

  • It works
It worked surprisingly well for an old roof rack I got from a co worker. I modified it and I am very pleased with how it turned out. The materials are far better than the rack itself. 10 out of 10 would buy again

  • Solid construction
I was surprised at how heavy this thing was when I got my hands on it. Definitely built tough. Extra holes drilled across the long side of it would be helpful to make securing this to cargo baskets or racks more universal.

  • Quality, Solid Mount, Worth the Price!!
This tire mount is super well made out of quality materials. Heavy Duty parts make you confident it will stay put and gives you piece of mind that your tire isn't going anywhere. Can confirm it fits not only Yakima Roof Racks, but many others as well. Perfect fit for my MaxxHaul Roof Rack found right here on Amazon. No modification needed. Fits just like it would on a Yakima Rack. 100 bucks seems a bit excessive for a couple parts and bolts at first, but when you actually put it together, you can tell it's made of quality materials and uses solid parts, making the price very much worth it. Quality parts and solid fit make this the go-to tire mount for any Roof Rack. 2020 Jeep Compass High Altitude MaxxHaul Roof Rack 18" Full Spare Tire ... show more

  • Quick install, did what it’s made to do
Worked just as it’s designed, letting me move my full-sized spare to the roof cage of my customized 2015 Renny. No wobble or play once things are secured and tightened. Love that it accepts a lock to keep away would-be thieves. Was also able to get an over-sized wheel cover to stay-put by tucking under where I could plus using a few bungee cords to keep it in-place. Now I’ve got plenty of space for cargo and gear under the hatch floor. ... show more

  • Yakima roof rack spare tire mount.
The Yakima spare tire mount it’s nice and sturdy. Only problem I have it’s with the hardware that comes with it to attach it to the roof rack. I have to get u-bolts and drill new wholes so I can safely secured it the the rack. Maybe a little overkill but better be safe than sorry.
