My daughter's 2016 BMW X 5 40e had a check engine light on the dashboard. I checked for 2 fault codes and tried disconnecting the negative battery terminal but could not get rid of them. Until I found XTOOL IP500 on Amazon. It is a great tool and is very easy to use. The auto scan function read 19 fault codes, which I think are accumulated errors. So I used the one-click clear function to clear all DTC codes. Now the check engine light is off and my daughter can drive without worry. So far, I am satisfied with the function of IP500.     • Great battery registration tool
Tackled my first DIY battery swap on my 'X3 last weekend and wow – dealerships really bank on people not knowing how simple this is. When my original battery died after 78k miles kudos to BMW's smart charging system, the dealer quoted 500+ for a new AGM battery plus' mandatory programming'. My local mechanic offered 300+ cash but admitted all they do is plug in a scanner for less 10 minutes. Grabbed the XTOOL IP500 and an identical spec Odyssey AGM. the tablet's battery registration wizard guided me through resetting the IBS module and updating the battery serial number - took longer to unpack the tool 15 minutes total than to actually do the coding. No more annoying 'driver assistance systems disabled' messages post-install. Minor gripe: Touchscreen glare in sunlight. But considering I’ll use this for oil resets and brake services? 'Modifications required' this scanner not only registered my new AGM battery but recoded the entire FEM module to recognize the new steering wheel buttons. While I was in there, Permanently disabled auto start-stop good riddance, shaky idle! Unlocked Euro-style adaptive headlight coding no more ‘anti-dazzle’ restrictions Reset the transmission adaptation after 80k miles shifts like new now Steep learning curve? Yeah, the coding tree looks like a Windows 98 menu. But YouTube tutorials got me through. For 1/5th what shops charge for a single coding session, this thing’s a Bavarian wallet-saver.
