    • Likely the best sub-$400 Scan Tool you can buy
My old code reader from the '90's could only pull engine DTC's on a good day and now it just errors out when plugged in to most modern vehicles. This Xtool D7 is my first foray in to modern scan tools, let alone a bi-directional tablet so I knew going in that there would be a learning curve involved and there has been but it hasn't been that bad. Xtool contacted me about a week after purchasing it to see how I liked it and to see if I had questions. Spoiler alert: I did have questions! And they answered them! Xtool's ongoing customer support has been excellent. Xtool also provided me with links to their official FB group, Reddit page and YouTube page. There is quite a bit of content out there to learn from. Xtools interface is pretty simple and intuitive. The autoscan feature has worked perfectly on the first 3 family vehicles I've plugged it in to. It finds every available system in the car and reports on any faults found in those systems. The live data is quite comprehensive and will keep you busy scrolling to see it all. Depending on the vehicle, you may have more or less bi-directional actuation features available between your different vehicles. Even though I've been wrenching on cars for well over 50 years, I'm still a neophyte with modern scan tools but this Xtool D7 has already helped me diagnose and repair a couple of problems that have probably come close to paying for the D7. From here on out it will just keep saving me money and time. Is it as good as a genuine factory scan tool? Nope. Is it as good as a Snap On scan tool? Doubtful. But you can't buy the former and I (for one) can't afford the latter. For under $400 bucks? It is definitely worth that and more. The support has been really good and the free software updates keep flowing in. And I expect the Xtool D7 will only get better by the time the 3 years of free update runs out. ... show more

I really like this D7 tool. What a great value for the money. Now that my kids are driving, I have a family with multiple cars, and I do my own repairs to keep my cost of ownership low. I have Honda, Toyota, Scion and GM cars, with the oldest a 2003. So far it has worked on them all. This tool reads and clears the HVAC, Body Control, ABS codes, and shows live values that my $100 code reader could not. Plus the bi-directional active tests are great for narrowing down the problems or for maintenance like brake caliper resets when replacing the brake pads. It even had the ability to do run the fluid bleed process after I replaced the green fluid on the GM rear differential clutch. Another thing I like is that this is a functional touch pad that I can tap the link on a diag code and it will bring up a browser search with additional details. (No more writing down codes and going back inside the house to look them up.) The support for this tool is really great also. Just send them and email and they will get back to you quickly, often within the same day. My only issue with this tool is the poor English translations (See pictures) I don't use the tool often enough where I would feel comfortable clicking-through without reading them first. So I often have to read these messages multiple times in order to understand what they mean. For instance, I assume that the message in one of the pictures should say "This will reset the throttle into Relearn Mode. Turn on the ignition without starting the car" If XTool could put a bit more effort into getting the translations right, this tool would be a home run for me. Also, before you buy this tool, you might want to confirm that it supports your car. One of my cars is a 2018 GMC Acadia, which this tool will only support with the basic IM Readiness and ODB2 functions. Luckily this tool does have full support for the 2019, which is pretty much the same car. So I have to manually select the 2019 to get the tools extensive diag and bi-directional functions to work with my car. Nice product - Glad I bought it! ... show more
