  • A simple OBD2 scanner reasonably priced - updated
Updated post - I've been trying out this scanner for over a month now and overall, I believe it's a great tool that's easy to use at a very reasonable price. And no need for third party software. The instructions for setting up the device may seem a little confusing. But this is what I did. Getting it to pair with your phone is the first thing you need to do. You need to download the app and enter your email. They use 2 step confirmation with your email which is good. Once you enter the code they send, the device is activated on their end. (If you don't do this, you will never see the device populate on your bluetooth list of your phone.) You cannot just plug it in and connect to your phone. you need to follow the steps on the app. Once the app is setup on the phone you'll scan the QR code on the device and then plug it into the car. I've attached a few photos to show how it works. The device will automatically connect to your ECU and it finds the VIN number and you just confirm the data to get started. Once this is complete you can begin to do your scanning. It works quickly and easily and shows the DTC codes and give a hyperlink if you want to look them up. You can then clear the codes and it walks you through the steps on the app. It does all this allows for switching between cars very easily. Something the earlier version of the AD20 did not do so well. I bought a couple of the earlier versions for my kids cars and it was a hassle switching cars and setting up each time. Initially I had an issue with the device throwing a VSC code on an older Lexus when I first got it. However, I reached out to their product support and they updated the software which fixed the problem in short order. (I have one of their professional scanners, the D7 and they've always been quick to make corrections for updates to take care of any issues.) So if you want a scanner to keep in your car for the occasional check when you have an MIL or DTC, this is a great option that's at the right price point. And you can't beat the customer service. ... show more

  • I Love this Thing!
We have a 2021 Ram Promaster 1500 camper van and are going to Death Valley in a couple of weeks and I really wanted to watch coolant temp and not rely on the center needle gauge on the dash. I originally had a ScanGuage II OBD engine performance and trouble code reader on an older vehicle, but I didn't like the corded feature and looked for something that used Bluetooth and a dedicated app for my iPhone. The AD20 Pro by XTool fit those requirements, and boy am I glad I found it. The free, proprietary app was easy to find in the app store, and the setup and pairing in my driveway was super easy. The general settings are intuitive, was able to set units to US (deg F, miles, and gallons) and turn on warnings for coolant temp and DTC codes. The real shakedown will be when we leave on our trip, but just the fact I can actually see coolant temp is worth the price I paid the the AD20 Pro, and it was not that expensive at all! ... show more

  • BT stopped working
Worked fine at the beginning. Then BT connectivity issues started... was connecting after several attempts... now not connecting at all. White led on the device is still blinking. Unusable after less than 4 months.

  • Actually pretty decent tbh
So wasn’t expecting much from it, we all know these things barely work, IF they do. I bought it because my old scanner went out and b4 i spent 200 on one of the fancy ones (was trying to pull trans codes and firing specs) i said eh wth lets try it. I got two older vehicles a 97 ford and an 04 chevy. It pulled just about everything you would want, minus some high end specs and details. You can leave it plugged up and notifications on for your car/truck. My gauges barley work on the ford its a work horse but with this i can just monitor everything. Gas o2 levels speed rpm oil pressure coolant temp for trans and motor. Check it out ... show more

  • Fasr and easy to use
I have had a standard AD20 on my vehicle for some time and have been very pleased with it. It is very easy to use and has lots of capabilities. I was excited when the AD20 PRO was released, and based on my previous experience with the company, I ordered it that day. Once I received it, I installed it on my vehicle by simply plugging it in and following the simple instructions to pair it with the Advancer App, which I already installed on my phone. I then used the AD20 Pro model to scan my vehicle again. I was excited to find additional fault codes that I was unaware of. It detected a "CAN bus" communication failure and set a code for it. I then used the look-up feature, and it took me to an in-depth online explanation of the fault code. After reading all about it, I learned that the particular code was not overly critical and could be a simple sporadic loss of communication. I used the reset codes function and repeated the test, and all was well. The battery in my vehicle is old, and I decided to run the "battery test." This test was difficult to do without this tool because the car starts easily, and you need to capture the battery voltage at the peak of the load. When the car started quickly (since it was warmed up), the window to capture the reading was very brief, and my volt meter could not catch it. The AD20 PRO captured the peak load voltage perfectly. The results are shown in the attached picture. I like this function. I also tested the live data function. While it does not do a real-time graphic representation of transient voltages like my very expensive scanner, it gives more than enough data and response time to interpret almost all data functions. I like this tool. I also previously messaged the company when I had trouble connecting the unit, and they were very responsive. It turned out that I simply needed to follow the instructions as written instead of winging it. Problem solved. Now, the AD20 PRO is on my Buick to stay. I leave it on the car at all times, and when I have a question or trouble arises, I simply run the APP and get a fast diagnosis of the condition of my car. I plan to have one of these on every vehicle I own. you can leave it in the car without draining the battery because the low-power Bluetooth automatically turns off after three minutes. ... show more
