I bought this bike after a fair amount of research. Xterra was the main brand I was considering. I happened to find a “damaged box” unit and decided to just do it. It is fairly heavy. I unpacked it and moved the pieces into the room where I intend to use it. Assembly took an hour to an hour and a half but parts were well labeled and directions were clear. It came with the two tools needed for assembly. Unlike some reviewers, My seat does lock in place right now. Maybe that changes...not sure yet. I’ve used the bike for a few days and am very pleased with my purchase. I appreciate the tablet holder so that I can use my iPad to read or watch a show or do virtual rides. I’ve had the bike for over six months now. My seat still locks in place. Still pleased with my choice. Rode it this morning before work while watching a tv show. I really like this bike. It was easy to put together (the adjustment lever gave me some issues at first). I use it almost everyday. It is comfortable. The only problem is after a few months of using it there is a noise coming from the wheel area when I pedal. It sounds like something either came loose or is misaligned. My sister got this to use instead of my treadmill. She puts 15 to 18 miles a day on it. It has over 3000 miles on it now. It works great and was not too hard to assemble. I definitely would recommend it.

For the price, this is an excellent piece of exercise equipment. Comfortable and easy to use. The seat is sturdy and does not wobble. Only time will tell if this bike maintains its integrity. The only thing I don't like is that the digital readout is in kilometers and cannot be changed to accommodate U.S. readings, i.e. MPH, calories, time. UPDATE:. I take it back. The seat does wobble. Don't express my opinion unless I'm convinced to do so. The unit came very well packaged, the instructions were surprisingly easy and clear. The monitor is easy to read from a comfortable setting. And you have several options of type of workout and gives you the goal options you need to feel like you are actually accomplishing something. Whether you use the odometer to reach that goal of one, two, or several miles at each workout or monitor your heart rate, it really gives you what you need to challenge yourself. [Reviews on this site lump all models together, though they are very different machines. This is for the SB 120, the least expensive of the models.] [updated note at the end] Box arrived four days early. Half of "Incredible Hulk" (2008) was watched while it was slowly assembled by an elderly retired pencil pusher with a bad back. The hardest part was opening the box. Every part was clearly marked in reference to the extremely-detailed step-by-step directions in the owner's manual, with the nuts, bolts and smaller pieces on a shrink-wrapped card with each item carefully numbered to correspond with the directions. The cables all easily clicked into place, though it would be fully functional for exercise without them since the electronics are only for the unnecessary-to-me readouts of time, distance (on a machine that doesn't move), pulse (telling me I'm alive), plus a few other items I don't care about. Maybe the moving numbers will entertain you. As indicated in the manual, they are easily reset for each ride by holding down the mode button. The only recommended change for assembly directions is to put the pedal straps on last so they can be set in recognition of the users' shoe fit and comfort. Using my own ratcheting socket, allen wrench and screwdriver was easier than tools provided, but if you don't own tools, no worries. Everything is solid and works and keeps on working. The seat position lever is a tad tight to lock in place, so the 95-pound female spousal unit needs assistance to change it. It works for users spanning from 60-inches to 71-inches tall, neither needing it to be closest or farthest back, respectively. Overall, it is a good solid purchase. If you pay more for more expensive models of this or other bikes, you pay for fancier electronics, magnetic resistence (which is what caused death of my prior machines), access to exercise programs, plus a larger, heavier machine that takes up more space, is harder to move around, and is more likely to have problems in shipping damage, electronics failures, and assembly difficulty. If you need more than this machine delivers, join a gym. update August 1, 2024: Lowered my original 5 star review down to 4 stars. After 11 months of generally quiet use, it acquired a noise that got louder over time. It remained as easy to use as before. It just became noisy. Tried all sorts of fixes short of dismantling the housing. No change. And yet, I'll probably buy the same item again to replace it. ... show more

While shopping for a recumbent bike, I was reminded of the dozen or more competing chip-makers that submit their respective designs to the same manufacturer (Taiwan Semiconductor). In other words, this XTERRA bike represents the best value among the numerous brands that use the same basic structure. The instructions are clear and complete, and the tools, screws, washers and nuts are contained on a card with a vinyl cover. Assembling the bike required close to 4 hours (less if I'd had a helper). After a trial run, I'm left with only a couple of questions: 1. Is this bike made for someone taller than 6 feet? (I'm between 6' and 6'1" and managed to get enough leg room only by backing up the seat to its furthest remove from the front panel.) 2. Why isn't the brake handle having any effect on the back seat's mobility? Up or down, the handle doesn't "lock in" or provide any braking effect. (Later: I simply wasn't applying ample pressure to the handle. Press down hard and it should lock the seat in place.] If you're 6'1" or taller, I'd look beyond this model. I plan to go back to my treadmill as soon as my ankle heals, [Later: Too soon to register a preference between the bike and treadmill.] ... show more

Now a week and a half later I'm at 4 miles in 15-17 minutes. Still on level 1 not prepared for level 2 yet. I decided to start slow and build on the progress.
