I’ve only been marginally impressed in the past with worx products but this time they hit it out of the park! I bought it just to do some light small area trimming but it had won me over for replacing my gas powered trimmer for all my trimming needs. First the good: 1. Lightweight- So easy to carry around and easy on the back. 2. Flexibility- The adjustable head wasn’t something I thought I’d use but I was wrong. I live in a rocky hilly area and I adjust all the time 3. Powerful - it’s not as powerful as the gas unit but still plenty of power to cut what you need around a home. The heavier the cut however tie shorter the battery life so it’s a trade-off 4. Cost effective- I actually like the string spool replacement idea. I’ve had enough with reloading a conventional spool. The more companies try to improve them the worse they get. 6. Construction- Given the lightweight you’d think you would compromise durability. Not true. This tool is designed and constructed with use in mind not just lower cost. Now the not so good 1. Battery - I was disappointed to find out that my existing 40v battery packs and charger wouldn’t work with this tool. So be prepared to stock up on 20v stuff if you buy tool only. 20v batteries work fine with decent working life. Otherwise no other bad input. I lived tucked on a mountain in a cove so I don't really have a 'yard' but lots of trees and rock and vegetation that I leave wild. However, on the sides of my driveway, in my driveway that's not paved, and a couple of other places, I have to clean it up a little a few times a year in the spring and summer or it becomes a bit of a problem. This battery operated Worx trimmer does the job efficiently, easily, and quickly. I already had a 20v Worx battery so I only needed the unit. I worried the 20v wouldn't be enough, but it's plenty. This thing chewed through growth pretty impressively. Don't forget your protective eyewear--I did at first and something splatted in my eye to remind me. The battery life is decent - I finished what I needed to do before the battery went dead but if I had two batteries, I'd be able to switch them out and do a little more as there were a couple of places I missed. That written, I did have a lot to do as our spring growth has been huge this year. Keeping up with those areas going forward, the one battery will be plenty to do the job. Easy to use. Lightweight. Price is reasonable. The only thing to 'put together' is the hood thing and all you need to do is take out the little screw, push in the hood, and then screw back in the screw - it took a minute. The string spool was already in place. Likely I'd re-string it so I won't have plastic going in the landfill. I wash mine off after use as it can have a lot of chewed up vegetation stuck to it. That will extend its life. Also, don't leave the battery plugged in constantly as that will shorten battery life. Once it's charged, unplug it. I normally go to Consumer Reports and see which models of a product are recommended or best buys and proceed from there. I did not do this this time. I regret that I did not. My Bride and I got sucked in by the big advertising campaign. The biggest selling point for me was the push-button advance. I have owned a few of these before, and it was a Craftsman bump-feeder that CR recommended back then that set the standard for me. However, it was a gasoline trimmer and every year it became harder and harder to start, until it just refused one year. I went without and found other ways to get rid of the grass in the cracks. My power washer actually did a fine job - until it was stolen. I have now replaced the power washer, so I expect to be able to get back to trimming that way, because the trimmer is useless. It refuses to feed, and who really wants to stop periodically to completely disassemble the head, advance the string, close it and continue. I did all the steps several times. I watched videos and followed them very carefully. The result was the same. It would not feed. Because of their very aggressive advertising campaign that proved false, WORX has lost me as a customer for life. I just wish it did not cost me a total of nearly $200 to arrive at this. ORIGINAL REVIEW: My preference for power tools has been a matter of A-B-C, i.e., Anything But Cordless. I was a victim of the paradigm of electric garden tools overall - weakness. Lowe's' Cobalt line has been helpful. I finally got tired of losing time with my lawn when my gas mower had to be serviced at the start of each year. I got an electric mower and learned that things have changed. But that is a corded mower. It takes care of my 75x91 lot with only my energy and the size of the bag as the limit. So I arrived at corded garden power tools as a solid alternative, in fact a preference in power tools. I am still not pleased with cordless power tools. I have concluded that the unless I can afford contractor quality prices, I need to stick to corded electric tools. But along came those spaces where I could not safely or adequately use the mower. My gasoline string trimmers were all stubbornly out of service for years and now my Bride was noticing the unattended areas. She suggested the trimmer she saw on television. I knew I had seen the infomercial, but dismissed it as something interesting, but not needed. However, at her urging, I did some searching (I had forgotten the brand) and here I am. The setup is embarrassingly easy. You install the safety guard/flower guard/line cutter. You open the spool by removing the cover (no tools needed). You place the spool on the spindle. Let out enough to slide through the metal grommet hole, replace the cover. If the battery is already charged and attached (also simple), you are ready to go. You let out more line by pressing the button on top of the handle until you hear the click of the string hitting the cutter. The trimmer stops spinning each time you do this, You will not do this very often once you learn how to use the trimmer. You want to use only the tip of the line. You want to get it only as close as it needs to start cutting. My first spool, the one with which it was shipped, has less than a foot on it. I know this, because I had to readjust the spool..I saw that there was about a foot of line left on it. I worked for an hour with that and I still have line left. This was all on the same day that my shipment of replacement spools arrived. I am still testing battery life. I bought the WORX WA3578 4.0 AH battery, but have not used it yet. I bought a generic 20V 4.0 AH battery that I have been using. The first use I got 90 minutes. The second use was 60 minutes. The third use was about 60 minutes - maybe a little less. I need to see what the WORX brand battery does. However, power delivered by the tool is more than effective as long as the battery lasts. Full charge on both batteries is achieved in 24 to 48 hours. I am still getting used to handling it. The handle is a bit short, even at full extension, which makes me bend a little bit - not good. This could be more due to the learning curve of proper technique. I wonder if for me another six to nine inches would alleviate the perceived need to bend while using it. The weight distribution seems awkward , but, again probably more due to technique. My Bride has not tried it yet. I would like to see her response to its weight and maneuverability. Switching modes is somewhat cumbersome. The shaft has to be unlocked and turned into the position desired. Changing the angle of the head is easier than one realizes. You hold the guard cover down with your foot and pull or push the handle until it is at your desired angle. Perhaps it is to save money on paper and ink, but the minimalist instructions are not as clear as some need. They use pictures instead of words. There are no clear instruction on best practices as were included with tools in the past. I highly recommend the tool. In fact I am seriously thinking about replacing my corded mower with the Worx cordless mower that uses the same Power Share battery. ... show more

This one was a replacement for my first Worx Weed wacker. The first one fell to time and a grumpy teenager. I had used it for years and with over 5 years of every weekend used for weeding and edging it was starting to wear out. I had my teenage grandson run it a few times, and well a grumpy teenager an take it's tole.
