Description

The WORX Nitro WX891L 20V Power Share 25’ Cordless Drain Auger is easier to use for clearing tough clogs than a hand-operated plumbing snake and is much less expensive than calling a plumber each time you have a difficult drain to clear. Part of the Worx Nitro Series of battery-operated tools, outdoor power and lifestyle products, which are engineered to provide more power, greater performance, and better run times than other battery-powered tools on the market. The Nitro Drain Auger provides up to 560 RPM to break up the toughest stoppages, and the variable speed trigger gives the user control to find the best speed for the job at hand. (Different pipes, drains, and clog types require different speeds to clear effectively.) This drain auger was built to handle drains up to 2 in. wide and is perfect for toilets, bathtubs, sinks, downspouts and more. It’s easy to use. It weighs only 9.2 lbs., so almost anyone can operate it. The 25 ft. ¼ in.-diameter steel cable extends and retracts automatically, so you don’t need to feed it down the drain like you do with a plumbing snake. And this drain auger is cordless, so you eliminate the hassle or hazard of tripping over or getting snagged on a cord. Chemical cleaners can be dangerous and less effective, plumbing snakes require a lot of manual labor and can damage pipes, while the Nitro Drain Auger pays for itself after just one use compared to the rates that a plumber charges.

  • Mixed feelings. This will scratch toilets. No interchangeable heads
So this is a really cool tool, but I have mixed feelings about it due to a couple shortcomings. First, this really doesn't work for too many applications. I wouldn't recommend using on most toilets. 99% of the time, a clogged toilet is not in your pipes, it's the trap inside the toilet itself. A 3 foot toilet auger is inexpensive, and will clear out most toilets in 30 seconds. Plus, the toilet auger has a plastic protective sleeve that won't scratch the bottom of your toilet, whereas this Worx will definitely scratch up your toilet. Also, this has a small head on it, that is not removable or interchangeable. That to me is almost a deal killer - the product description says it will clear out up to 2 inch pipes (the box says 3 inch pipes). But the fact is that it will only poke a hole through a clog, it will not cut through a big clog or help with corrosion inside your pipes. There is no reason they couldn't have added interchangeable heads to this, and I might actually cut off the tip and add my own heads to it, to make it a more versatile tool. For example, a very common kitchen sink clog is grease. Usually, the grease has narrowed the inner pipe diameter considerably, and all it takes is a little piece of food to clog it up completely. This Worx drain auger will push the little piece of food out of there, but it's not big enough to actually clear out the grease from the pipe or widen the diameter. You will still have the same slow drain until it gets clogged next time. I also own a larger 50 foot auger, with interchangeable heads. I've used that machine on yard drains, gutters, basement pipes, swimming pool, clearing the sewage line all the way to the street, clearing out rust and debris from the 2nd story waste pipe down to the basement ... and this Worx will work for none of those things. Really this is primarily a sink drain cleaner - for the kitchen & bathroom sinks, and maybe for a bath tub or shower. And if that's all you need, you can get a manual 20 or 25 foot auger for under $10 at the local hardware store. If you find the idea of a motorized auger appealing, you can find one that functions as a drill attachment, so you don't have to keep track of another battery, another battery charger, etc. I do like this thing, it's fairly lightweight, easy to use, compatible with my other Worx tools. But I have two problems with the unit itself. First, it's difficult to clean - you really need to wipe off the snake as you're retracting it, or else all that crud is going to be stored inside the machine itself. Second, it has two different controls for the forward/reverse - on the trigger, and also on the handle - and sometimes they contradict each other. So if you accidentally have the trigger on reverse, and the handle on forward, it slips into neutral and just spins, doesn't actually do anything. It's a bit convoluted to keep track of two different settings. I'm probably at a 3.5 star for this. Make sure it will work for your intended use. ... show more

  • Lifesaver!
This handy little guy has saved me a ton in rental fees! It will handle most normal plumbing clogs and is much easier to handle and use than the large 50-75 foot electric augers that cost $80 to rent.

  • A little heavy but full-featured
Firstly, I gotta say that the Worx Nitro WX891L 20V Power Share 25 ft. Cordless Drain Auger just looks cool. It wouldn't look out of place in a science fiction movie or video game. It is an electric powered drain cleaner that has a couple of interesting features that I haven't seen before. This tool has the ability to rotate clockwise and counter clockwise and the lever on top controls the forward/back direction of the snake. What's interesting to me is that the forward/back movement is independent of the direction of rotation. You can push forward in both clockwise and counter clockwise directions, which I haven't seen before. I'm sure that this feature has probably been around but it is certainly new to me. So why electric? With my manual drain cleaner, extending the snake was a manual effort of pulling the snake out by hand from the drum. While that it not a problem, the problem came when trying to push the snake back into the drum. When the snake eventually rusted, I ended up putting a fold into the snake and it just didn't work well after that. The electric motor should be able to avoid this situation because its grip is much close to the drum. In terms of its performance, I purchased this item because I have a shower drain that clogs on a consistent basis. Luckily the clog isn't far from the drain so the length of this machine is quite long enough for my needs. I was able to easily unclog the drain and cleanup was easy because I didn't have to put my hands on the gunky snake to push it back into the drum. My only complaint is that this tool is quite heavy compared to other tools that I have in my garage. It makes it a little more difficult to manuver around to get a good angle on the drain, then to hold it in place to do the work. ... show more
