  • Low cost solution to know when our big cat wants to come in
Style: 1 Receiver +1 Sensors
PROBLEM: One recent cold Winter day our Alpha Cat Georgie snuck between our legs and went outside without being seen and we didn’t notice until 2300 hours Snack Muster (we have four foster fail cats), which meant Georgie was outside for about six hours. After looking through the entire house, we found him on the back deck urgently requesting entrance. Georgie is a long-haired part Maine Coon Cat, so he probably holed up in one of his favorite hiding spots, but even so the temps were below freezing and he was very grateful to be back in the warmth. He laid in his bed in front of the fireplace the whole night. RESEARCH: Georgie is certainly smart enough to learn how to push a doorbell button, but that would take time to teach him. We wanted to find something that would help right out of the box. We searched for something like a garage door safety mechanism so Georgie could break a laser beam and ring a bell. Unfortunately, the units we saw were either too expensive or too specific to garage doors. It might be possible to retrofit such a unit, but it seemed like there should be an inexpensive Plug and Play solution. SOLUTION: This unit fit the bill more or less perfectly. Mounted low on the door pointed at the spot on the doorstep where Georgie puts his nose when he wants to come in, the unit paired easily with the ringer and neatly announced when Georgie was ready to grace us with his presence in our living space. PROS: Easy set up; lots of tunes to choose from; five volume settings CONS: (1) outdoor unit is TOO sensitive. After initial setup, it detected every tiny movement in the entire yard. Squirrels, birds at the feeders, wind rustling leaves, and more. Luckily the unit has a mute setting that also blinks a warning light when movement is detected. In the attached pics, you’ll see my simple low tech solution of putting electrical tape over 2/3 of the detector and pointing further toward the ground. This worked well and now only triggers movement next to the bottom of the door. (2) there is no compatibility with Google or Alexa or any way to capture a log of detections. This may only be a problem for people like us who like to track trends (we also own two wi-fi connected automatic cat litter boxes that collect lots of data about our Cat Army’s latrine practices. OVERALL IMPRESSION: this unit was overkill for our purposes and needed a little tweaking to dial back the sensitivity. That said, at less than $25, this unit easily solved our problem. We recommend this for any pet owner who needs a similar solution. ... show more

  • Works perfectly
Style: 1 Receiver +1 Sensors
I wanted this to alert me when my dog went upstairs in the night. It works perfectly right out of the box. The receiver and sensor were paired as soon as I plugged in the receiver. The sensor has a good range, just right for covering the stairs. Lots of alert tones to choose from. I just wanted a simple doorbell sound, it was easy to select. Good volume options as well, so it's not too loud. I like how the receiver plugs into a receptacle. No batteries to worry about on that end. Just 2 AAA's in the sensor, and these were provided. Lots of mounting options for the sensor, but we just have it sitting on a ledge on the stairwell. Didn't need to permanently mount it. Does the job we wanted it to. ... show more

  • easy to use
Style: 1 Receiver +1 Sensors
I finally installed this so I am alerted when someone comes through my front gate. It's very simple to install. It too me a while to position it properly so it didn't alert me when someone entered/exited my garage (it's next to front gate). I like the variety of alerts you can choose from.

  • Works, but inconvenient
Style: 1 Receiver +1 Sensors
This product has a few features I don’t like, ones that I was unaware of when I bought it. 1. The sensor itself lights up when it detects motion. But I do not want the sensor to announce itself. 2. The receiver settings reset whenever it is unplugged. This is unforgivable. Every such electronic unit should be designed with a CMOS battery, to retain settings when unplugged. This is a big inconvenience. 3. The sensor can be powered with a USB cable, but the port used is USB-Micro. Again, unforgivable. No electronics unit should be designed with any kind of USB port other than USB-C. All pre-existing units that were designed with outdated ports other than USB-C should be redesigned. In fact, I know they already have been redesigned, because it’s illegal to sell units with outdated USB ports in the EU. But since I’m in the USA, they sold me the outdated, inferior version. 4. The receiver needs one more button, which is a dedicated on/off button. The lack of this button, combined with the lack of a CMOS battery (to retain settings when the receiver is unplugged), leads to even greater inconvenience. I need this unit pretty badly right at the moment, so I will go ahead and use it, but I will be replacing it as soon as possible. Is there a positive? Yes. It does detect motion and cause the receiver to deliver an alert. ... show more
