  • This doorbell rocks
If you're already in the Ubquiti / Unifi ecosystem this is the doorbell you want. It works great, the button is obvious and not confusing (another I had before people would try to push on things other than the button), it looks great, and the Protect software is great. The only negative I've found is that the support for mechanical door chimes is lacking. My chime worked fine with other smart doorbells but this one simply won't ring it. I can use the Unifi wifi chime instead but that is extra cost. ... show more

  • WORKS WELL
Provides nice clear video images. Only wish the company offered a color choice. The company is great to deal with also.

  • great doorbell camera
We had 2 Blink doorbells for about a year and a half. They were around $50 each so it was hard to justify the $600 cost for 2 of these to replace them for better alerts, etc. Then Blink crippled their app unless we paid $100/yr for the 2 doorbells. Now these 2 will pay for themselves in a few years, especially when Blink inevitably raises their rates again. Ubiquity has added people, vehicle, and pet AI detections so I was able to turn off generic motion detection on our front door. That camera faces a busy street, and headlights illuminating the lawn and reflectors on passing vehicles at night would constantly trigger the Blink alerts (and Ubiquity as well until I turned off the general motion detection zone). Blink required Energizer lithium AA batteries that lasted 2-3 months tops and cost $20-25 per 8-pack (about $50 extra per year on top of the $100 subscription fee), these are hardwired to the doorbell transformer so I never have to swap batteries. Or lose a camera when the batteries cut out. I can open the Unifi Protect app on my phone and via a website on any computer. That lets me bring up the cameras and keep a live view going until the page logs out or I refresh. This type of monitoring was impossible with Blink, and it only allowed 10 seconds at time via the app. All of the footage is recorded locally to the UDM Pro and the 4TB HDD i installed so no cloud or 3rd party access to it, but I can still view my cameras and alerts remotely. The one con that is really driving me nuts is the inability to snooze alerts/detections for a period of time. I don't need to be spammed with detection alerts as I circle the property mowing the lawn, going up and down the driveway snow blowing, or while our daughter is sitting on the front steps waiting for the bus. For now I have a less intrusive/annoying alert sound set and mute my phone if the alerts drive me nuts (mostly due to the 3 G3 Flex cameras that do not have smart detection and will trigger when snow blows past the camera). ... show more

  • Overall Early Impressions - 1 week in
I just moved back into my house and decided that i was tired of Ring nickel and diming me for features that used to be standard. Viewing historical video is now only included in a plan. I actively trying to move as much of my life and my families out of a corporate cloud that i cannot control. This is just one step. I am knee deep into the Ubiquiti ecosystem. I have a Dream Machine Pro with a HHD in it, so it wasn't a big leap for to make this work for me. I am only a week into living with this doorbell, so far it is better than my ring already. EXCEPT for the fact that it DOES NOT work with mechanical chimes. You have to purchase the UI Chimes; they could be louder especially for costing $89 a piece. Video Quality- Is way better than my ring. I'll see how this doorbell holds up late afternoon sunlight in the summer. Located in PNW. It is also amazing that the camera feed is very frugal with HHD space on the NVR. I have 2TB available to it and I suspect I will be able to have about 3 months of rolling continuous video stored on it to view. Sound- The additional accessory, UI chimes, I purchased two of them to replace the mechanical chimes, they are too quiet. I really would like them to be about 20% louder. Even turned all the way up, they are too quiet for my taste. Home Assistant - I have read that the integration of this doorbell will allow me to flash my hue lights whenever someone rings my front door. Which will make up for the quietness of the chime speaker. Overall early impressions are that this is worth the money, especially since I had my ring doorbell for 8 years. I hope that this one will last just as long. ... show more

  • A nice upgrade from the original G4 Doorbell
Struggled with wifi issues with the original G4 doorbell. Already pretty deep into the ubiquiti ecosystem so I decided to purchase this one to see if past issues would be resolved. Have been using this doorbell since 3/12/2024, and outside of some initial setup issues, it has been flawless. The inclusion of USB-C for powering the device is a nice touch, which was used to resolve my setup woes. Overall recommend if you are in the Ubiquiti ecosystem; otherwise I would mostly steer clear as it does require you to install Unifi Protect which cannot be self hosted. ... show more

  • How to turn the volume up on the chime
If your chime is too Low you can set it too 80 DB. You will be able to set the chime sound to 100%. For this, you need to navigate to doorbell to which the chime is paired > settings > sound. René
