Simply plug in the unit, pick your preferred ringer and set your volume and light preferences. Listing shows that it is able to retain it's settings when power is lost, but I haven't figured out how to get it to save the settings. It will reset when it is unplugged and power is lost. That's the only reason it didn't get 5 stars.

The doorbell is on a post outside and the lighted doorbell reciever is inside and it works great. The night light, well, I thought it would be annoying, but it actually is nice to have. Even the dogs approve of it!

To make it ring you just plug the reciever in an outlet in a room near the button. I stuck mine on some decorative glass in my front door and it adheres well there. There are many ring tones available and it's easy to scroll through them, but I didn't see instructions on how to select one and keep it as your ring tone. The volume is satisfactory, but the description says it adjustable, and the manual doesn't state clearly how to change it. It's a good price for a basic door bell, but since they include other features, it was be nice to know how to use them.
