  • There is a procedure for using this tool
I saw the reviews from some people who said it didn't work right but realized that using this tool is a little more involved than you would suspect. First you make sure the sliding plates stay parallel to each other and lock down the tool as you are measuring your drum . Next remeasure the drum keeping the tool locked notice approximately how far off you are, then using the scale, readjust the tool a remeasure the drum. Keep doing this until you are close enough making sure you keep the two slides parallel every time. The parking brake on my equinox was never adjusted correctly until I got this tool. ... show more

  • Good tool to have
Used a similar product another technician had. Makes adjusting drum brakes go so much quicker.

  • Great tool to adjust your RV brakes, Fast easy and accurate!

  • Worked on one side but not the other side
I purchased this because my vehicles have rear drum brakes, so buying one was finally justified. I replaced the brakes on my truck and this worked great on one set but when installing the brakes on the other side it didn’t work well. So, I used it to get the general measurement and then adjusted manually. It left one set of shoes too wide for the drum, but thankfully an easy fix from there. ... show more

  • Not Calibrated
I'll start with the good. The material of the gauge itself is very solid, aluminum I'm guessing; no slop in the mating surfaces or in the gauge when locked down. The lock down thumbwheel is the color of copper. I'm not sure what it's actually made of. Expanding the gauge in and out is very smooth. The gauge is clearly stamped, easy to read in inches and millimeters. Now the "ok" parts, the measuring mark to tell you the length is made of plastic. There was so much flashing that it obscured the position on the ruler. A little trimming with an x-acto knife cleared that up pretty easy. The lock down thumb wheel can loosen up from time to time, so double check it each time you adjust the gauge. And now the bad. The spurs that are riveted in to measure the inside diameter of the drum are short by about a 16th of an inch - it even shows up on the stamped ruler on the gauge. A 10" drum will show up as 10-1/16" approximately. The transfer section of the gauge, however, is calibrated correctly. In other words if you set the tool to 10" using the ruler on the gauge, the ID of the transfer section will be 10". Unfortunately if you use the spurs to measure the inside diameter of the drum and then set your brake shoes, the brake shoes will be about 1/16 of an inch too wide. Making the drum next to impossible to put on. What I did to resolve the error is set the gauge to the diameter of the brake using the ruler on the gauge. Make your adjustment to the brake until they barely touch the gauge, then test fit everything with the drum (which you should do regardless). Rotate the drum checking for a slight amount of drag. If you're happy then remove the drum and repeat on the other side. Once that is set, put both drums on, pump your brakes and test your parking brake then remove the drums and recheck the amount of drag on each wheel without the other drum being on. If the drag is relatively equal on both sides you are done. Put both drums on and the wheels, torque the lug nuts and go for a test drive. Hope this helps. ... show more

  • Handy tool
I didn’t even know this tool existed! I just replaced all 4 drum brakes on a classic car. Still had a soft pedal, even though I THOUGHT I had the shoes adjusted. I guess not. This tool lets you set the brake shoe diameter correctly the 1st time, every time. Not a tool you need very often (unless you are a hard-core old car person), but it’s nice to have if you work on drum brakes. ... show more

  • Does what it's suppose to
Simple tool makes it easy to get your brake shoes adjusted right when you change them . No need to be fumbling with the little adjuster wheel after the drum is put back on!
