Note different installs/functioning aside from included 'pull strings': 1) We replaced a ceiling fan with one of these to start which had an already installed J-box + connected switch on the wall. >> we had electrical run/J-box installed for these 2: 2) I got a 2nd unit for our guest BR & we bought a removable receiver for the J-box, so that one can be controlled with a remote. 3) We installed the 3rd one, which is controlled simply by the pull strings, no remote nor wall switch. ... show more

Once installed, these work silently and smoothly. I bought 4 of them and installed them with the help of my father-in-law, who has done this many times before. They replaced some existing (ugly) ceiling fans, so I didn’t have to worry about making sure the electrical box could support the weight. If this is the case for you, then the process was simple enough that you can do it after watching a few YouTube “how-to” videos. Just a word of warning: make sure you have a wide variety of bolts to attach the fan to the electrical box. I had to make 2 trips to the hardware store because the house had 3 different types of electrical boxes. They do not come with remotes, but I bought generic remotes and they work perfectly. The fan blades did not need to be balanced. Overall, I am very happy with this purchase and I would buy them again. ... show more

    • Light could be brighter...

We purchased two of these for our guest rooms. Pros: they look great and we could wire them to the existing wall switches instead of being forced to use a remote like a lot of the fans now sold. Cons: the light level is not adjustable and really isn't bright enough for even a small bedroom.

Very nice product. Please understand that a 42" with only 3 blades is for a small room, so you cannot expect a huge airflow. That you will get from a 55" 5 blade fan. It is well made and it has a contemporary look. In my opinion is nicer than anything I found at the local stores even for twice the money. Like most fans today, it comes with a LED light (only 2 bulbs of 60 watts equivalency) so again, it is made for a small room. so if you need more light, you may want to change the bulbs. The noise that some complain comes from the angle of the blades cutting through the air and not from the motor. ... show more

We had space constraints so a small fan was a must. This one fit perfectly and looks great in our new modernish blue and grey kitchen. The electrician said it was a pain to put together, lots of little screws etc. I didn't have to do that part so all I can say is it looks great up, provides a nice breeze and is fairly quiet. I liked the quality and look of the fan. Installing went pretty smoothly and everything works. However the humming sound the fan makes when the blades spin is annoying. I may send it back.

I recommend this fan 100% . For average to small sized rooms these fans look solid and are very reliable. Ceiling fan installation isn't fun *see michelangelo sistine chapel* but this is a relatively doable project for anyone with a screwdriver, wire cutters and some elbow grease. Very easy to install and all of the settings work as expected. I've purchased other off-brand (questionably labeled and packaged) fans here on Amazon in the very recent past, and due to their poor quality and functionality, I was inspired to be a bit more discerning with my next purchase. Westinghouse is a solid brand with a solid reputation, and I was not disappointed at all with the product. I got this for my son's room, and he loves it.
