  • Light and fast option for smaller driveways and walkways.
So far so good. First significant snowfall of the season 4-6" and it cleared our two car driveway and sidewalk in front of the house quickly. No complaints, and for an electric snowblower I thought it did a remarkably good job. Managing the cord is a little troublesome, but that would be true of any electric model. Had enough power to launch this morning's medium-wet snow a good 10-15 feet and cut the driveway clear time to just a few minutes. Other bonus.. Its light enough to easily pick up and move to another location. Make sure your cord is long enough. Even handled the plowed salted slush at the end of the driveway (threw it just far enough away to be useful). Update 1-28-15 With a little reluctance the WEN managed to clear the end of our driveway after the New England Blizzard of 2015. This was above and beyond the call of duty for this little machine. Technically the sixth largest snowfall in history for our area. We had 2-3 feet of base snow fall and 3-4 foot snow drifts blocking the end of our driveway where the plows had blocked us. There is no way the snowblower could tackle the base snow that fell without assistance (its mouth is only about a foot high). However, with a little ingenuity we made it work. We decided to clear one small area and then chop / drag the snow back with a shovel (not really shoveling, just a downward chop a foot or two at a time). We then used the WEN to blow the chopped up snow out of the way. This worked extremely well and we managed to clear our (2 car wide / 1 car deep) driveway in about an hour and a half. We went back out today and the snow was somewhat denser, yet we still managed to re-clear 4" or so of additional snowfall and the area where the plows had blocked us in. Additionally we cleared a 50+ ft path down our sidewalk the width of the machine using the same approach. I would estimate an additional 45 minutes to clear the sidewalk 18" wide. Notes on heavy usage like this. This should be a no-brainer, but it got us... Make sure you don't have any other appliances running on the same circuit as the snowblower. The circuit we used was shared with our porch light and an interior outlet. We tripped the breaker not realizing we had another appliance going. I unplugged the cord a handful of times by accident, oops, cords are inconvenient, but a good flexible winter cord goes a long way. Take a bite of the cord with your hand so you know when your out of slack. The Snow Blaster does not like slushy snow. The chute clogged quickly in the slushy mix at the end of the driveway. Happened 3 or 4 times during our entire clearing. Not sure how the WEN will handle a really wet mix (probably not well), but the more dry and compacted snow wasn't an issue. If the blower bogs down, use it as a cue to take smaller bites of snow. Its small and light enough that I can bring it inside between runs and down a flight of stairs to the basement where it can dry off. Extremely happy with our purchase. I was very nervous about not buying a gas single or dual stage for our driveway, but this was a great and affordable compromise that is small and lightweight enough to maneuver in some tighter spots. I feel like I got my money's worth out of the item after one storm, but considering the job it did during this Blizzard it has more than paid for itself. If your looking for something to clear a 100+ft 2 car driveway, you might want to consider a larger gas two-stage, but for smaller jobs or with a little creativity this will work in a pinch if you work within its limitations. ... show more

  • Best Bang for the Buck
This is the our third electric thrower, the least expensive, and by far the best. For around $100, give or take, it is tough to beat for value. In southeast Michigan, we typically get about 3-6 decent sized snow blasts per year. Since purchased in 2017, it is probably on about its 12th or more tour of snow duty and does the job as well as it did the first day. It feels like it might be flimsy and cheap, but in real snow clearing scenarios, this thing has been a champ - no loose clips, bolts, or other parts - no broken blades or cracked plastic. With proper care, seems suitably durable. Best for light snows topping at about 3"-4", but can handle heavier snows up to maybe 6"-7". Snow depth can be managed with more frequent passes - clear the snow before it gets too deep. For deeper snows, take shorter bites - not the entire width of the auger mechanism, but 1/4 to 1/2 the width to allow snow to collapse into the auger mechanism. Overall very pleased with this model. I don't hand out five star reviews very often, but dollars to productivity/usefulness, this has been an excellent purchase and has saved a lot of work. Pros - Relatively powerful - Surprisingly durable - probably won't take a lot of abuse, but with proper care has held up well since late 2017; looks/works like new - Cuts a reasonably wide swath for an inexpensive electric blower - Cuts fairly deep for an inexpensive electric blower - Depending on snow type, can throw up to 20', as advertised - Very lightweight and highly maneuverable - Good thoughtful, design - even a nice touch with a tension relief hook for the power cord (which probably cost all of 10 cents to add to the model, but helps tremendously); handle on top of the motor for lifting and moving; crank/chute works well - easier to adjust chute trajectory than models with turn screws to tighten (feels a bit flimsy, but does hold up okay, though) - VERY low maintenance - no gas to purchase and store; no oil required; no spark plugs; no exhaust smell in clothes when the job is done; quieter than gas models Cons - Chute is a bit flimsy, but is actually easier to angle than chutes with turn screws - Requires additional care/caution for sticks, stones, and sidewalk cracks as compared with most gas powered or larger electric models - Cord management can be a challenge, but usually easily managed with a sturdy power cable and a little practice. - Proper extension cords are required. Thick, all-weather/winter cables, rated at 15 amp or better are highly recommended, so figure this into your final cost. Do not use with low amperage cords. - Will not handle heavier snows at increased depths. Best to manage how much you need to clear and when, using multiple passes as necessary; not recommended for ice or re-frozen snow at all - this is an invitation to damaging the blower Other Notes - Ignore one star reviews that are based on damage during delivery, which is something Amazon and Wen have very little ability to resolve. Check out reviews about actual operation. - Has a safety-start mechanism, press the button and pull the thin, lower handle up to start. Very easy. - Bright orange color may be a plus for visibility - Noise is comparable to loud vacuum cleaner - Not difficult to assemble, but about average difficulty for this type of thing - If you live in an area with extended cold spells, remember to dust snow off after a job is complete; this prevents refreezing and potentially impairing the chute's ability to turn when used the next time - Worth considering a water-tight cord lock for where the extension connects to the blower or where additional extension cords are connected together. https://smile.amazon.com/Farm-Innovators-CC-2-Connect-Water-Tight/dp/B002MHFXS8/ref=sr_1_9?dchild=1&keywords=winter+power+cord&qid=1613489583&sr=8-9 ... show more

  • This guy really works.
I bought this on impulse after a decent snowfall that got really old clearing by hand so there was a month long interval between purchase and first use. When it arrived the box was damaged (see pics) but the unit was undamaged. There's several parts to keep track of, but overall it's not a nightmare to assemble. I was concerned at the outset by the absence of rubber "paddles" or flights and I can't seem to find a replacement auger should that become necessary but I thought I'll give it a shot anyway. We had a fair amount of snow (4-4.5") overnight so out this guy came and I'm pretty impressed. The base was very heavy snow with a more powdery 2" or so on top and this thing did VERY well. I wouldn't recommend taking a full bite on each pass with heavy stuff, but after the initial bite and passes of 50-75% of the full width of the machine it is great. Even without the rubber paddles it went right to the base of the snow without leaving the 1/4" behind that lots of them do. That means a lot when you're cleaning off your deck or porch. Be careful of the chute direction as this baby doesn't fool around, it sends the snow a really good distance. It's also very light so carrying it up/down steps is fairly effortless. That means a lot when you're up there in years as I am. All in all, I'd do it again. I'm still concerned about the eventual replacement of the auger in the future but for now it's definitely worth the money. I'll do my best to answer any questions. ... show more
