  • Light and fast option for smaller driveways and walkways.
So far so good. First significant snowfall of the season 4-6" and it cleared our two car driveway and sidewalk in front of the house quickly. No complaints, and for an electric snowblower I thought it did a remarkably good job. Managing the cord is a little troublesome, but that would be true of any electric model. Had enough power to launch this morning's medium-wet snow a good 10-15 feet and cut the driveway clear time to just a few minutes. Other bonus.. Its light enough to easily pick up and move to another location. Make sure your cord is long enough. Even handled the plowed salted slush at the end of the driveway (threw it just far enough away to be useful). Update 1-28-15 With a little reluctance the WEN managed to clear the end of our driveway after the New England Blizzard of 2015. This was above and beyond the call of duty for this little machine. Technically the sixth largest snowfall in history for our area. We had 2-3 feet of base snow fall and 3-4 foot snow drifts blocking the end of our driveway where the plows had blocked us. There is no way the snowblower could tackle the base snow that fell without assistance (its mouth is only about a foot high). However, with a little ingenuity we made it work. We decided to clear one small area and then chop / drag the snow back with a shovel (not really shoveling, just a downward chop a foot or two at a time). We then used the WEN to blow the chopped up snow out of the way. This worked extremely well and we managed to clear our (2 car wide / 1 car deep) driveway in about an hour and a half. We went back out today and the snow was somewhat denser, yet we still managed to re-clear 4" or so of additional snowfall and the area where the plows had blocked us in. Additionally we cleared a 50+ ft path down our sidewalk the width of the machine using the same approach. I would estimate an additional 45 minutes to clear the sidewalk 18" wide. Notes on heavy usage like this. This should be a no-brainer, but it got us... Make sure you don't have any other appliances running on the same circuit as the snowblower. The circuit we used was shared with our porch light and an interior outlet. We tripped the breaker not realizing we had another appliance going. I unplugged the cord a handful of times by accident, oops, cords are inconvenient, but a good flexible winter cord goes a long way. Take a bite of the cord with your hand so you know when your out of slack. The Snow Blaster does not like slushy snow. The chute clogged quickly in the slushy mix at the end of the driveway. Happened 3 or 4 times during our entire clearing. Not sure how the WEN will handle a really wet mix (probably not well), but the more dry and compacted snow wasn't an issue. If the blower bogs down, use it as a cue to take smaller bites of snow. Its small and light enough that I can bring it inside between runs and down a flight of stairs to the basement where it can dry off. Extremely happy with our purchase. I was very nervous about not buying a gas single or dual stage for our driveway, but this was a great and affordable compromise that is small and lightweight enough to maneuver in some tighter spots. I feel like I got my money's worth out of the item after one storm, but considering the job it did during this Blizzard it has more than paid for itself. If your looking for something to clear a 100+ft 2 car driveway, you might want to consider a larger gas two-stage, but for smaller jobs or with a little creativity this will work in a pinch if you work within its limitations. ... show more

  • Awesome little beast!
Size: Cordless (Tool Only)
This thing works phenomenal! We bought one for my elderly mother and mother in law. They are easily to use and cut the workload down significantly. They raved about them so much that we bought a third one for ourselves and were just as impressed. My only word of caution is to buy a second battery if you have more than 10 minutes of work to do, as they tend to use the battery up rather quickly. Overall and outstanding product and well worth the money! ... show more

  • I'm now a believer in electric snow throwers.
If you have the right expectations, this machine will make you happy. Its perfectly capable of dealing with upto 1.5 feet of snow. Anything higher than that, and you should shovel the top loose first for the first square foot ahead of the machine and then it can mow the rest down from there. Also, its not self-propeling so there is some arm and leg work, but its 1000x easier on your back than shoveling. You can't rush the machine too much because the thrower can get clogged. Thankfully, if you have a metal stick, you can unclog it fast, and if you pace yourself it won't get clogged. Try not to run it dry because if there's no snow, it does smell hot pretty fast. However, in the snow it keeps very cool. Besides the considerations listed above, this machine is a solid performer. With this machine I was able to do in 2 hours what would have taken me 6 hours with even the best shovel. Its very light, easy to use, and the ariculating "chimney" (or whatever its called) is really effective. Also, it takes like 10 minutes to assemble max. Its mostly put together already, just need to stack up the handle. After Jonas, I'm confident that this was an amazing buy. I got it when it was $130 back in November, but I guess now that the snow is so serious, the price is really high. Even at $200 though, this is a fantastic buy. ... show more

  • I AM IMPRESSED!
I have used 3 different types of snow blowers over the last several years. But I am almost 75 now, and can no longer handle the weight of the big gas ones. Never had good luck with battery yard equipment so I bought this Wen corded electric. I am amazed that it throws snow as well if not better than any I have used before. I have a low spot at the gutter where melted snow makes a large puddle at the bottom of my driveway, especially after snow plows fill the gutter with ice. But amazingly I even was able to throw slush and water with it. Never been able to do that with a gas one. I was also pleased that due to the size, light weight, and maneuverability, I could get closer to and between my cars. When I used gas snowblowers, I could not get that close, so had to shovel that part. The Wen did plug up at times because it was a very wet snow. But all snow blowers plug up with wet snow. But the Wen is much easier to unplug both because it is light, and because the chute is not as long. I did find it to not be as powerful as a big gas one, so in order to keep from slugging the motor down a lot (which would burn the motor out shortly) I just took narrower cuts and did a series of quick short pushes. In fact, the faster push makes it throw further, but as with all electric motors, if you force it, and don't let it get up to speed, it will burn the motor out. The photo is of my dog run, which was a 5 day buildup of partially crusted snow. I did not think anything but a shovel would work, but it has a 6' fence and I could not throw it over or through the wire with a shovel. But the Wen worked perfectly--throws it hard enough to make it go through the fence wire. I don't think anything but a corded electric would have done that job. I am so amazed and happy that a 75 year old woman could move all the snow I had in my large dog run, and my long wide driveway! ... show more
