Description

Designed in the mid '80s by Yale and US National Team Rower John Duke who formed WATERROWER Inc in 1988 in Rhode Island, in the North Eastern United States. Today our Americas Headquarters continues to be based in Rhode Island, in the small coastal town of Warren WATERROWER's wooden models are handcrafted from a selection of the world's finest sustainable hardwoods. An American Fitness Brand, our vast assortment of rowing machines, of which all are manufactured in the quintessential coastal New England town of Warren, Rhode Island, can be found within expansive health clubs, luxury hotels and boutique fitness studios throughout the world. WATERROWER Inc. is a proud supporter of our local Rhode Island community The WATERROWER's unique WaterFlywheel has been designed to reproduce the precise physical dynamics of a moving boat; the surest way to replicate the physiological benefits and aesthetic pleasure of rowing. Like rowing, the WaterFlywheel does not apply resistance to you, you apply work to it; you are the engine. By the "rule of cubes", the amount of work you apply dictates the speed at which you row. From a gentle paddle to a “give it your all” workout, you are in control When rowing, remember, you are the engine. The amount of work you do is dependent on you, not on the machine. The more work you do, the more resistance/drag you can overcome, and the faster you move. The speed which you can maintain is dependent on the level of work you can maintain and, again, is limited only by you. Row harder and you go faster, row easier and you go slower. This is the self paced nature of the WATERROWER and Rowing and allows Anyone to row regardless of age or size of level of fitness. The WATERROWER's unique WaterFlywheel design uses a specially formed paddle to cup the moving water, reduce slippage and produce an unrivaled simulation of the benefits of rowing. There is no jerkiness or jarring which is often associated with conventional mechanical rowing machines making the exercise unpleasant; only smooth even load, kind to the body, and relaxing to the mind. There is no "solid" connection between user and the moving water, simply an immersed paddle which dampens out any detrimental mechanical feel Providing some "give" is essential for accommodating bad or developing technique, lessening the risk of injury. A uniform stroke is essential to spreading the work more evenly over the muscle groups, working the muscle groups in proportion to their strength, optimizing exercise benefit while reducing risk of injury. The S4 Monitor measures the speed of the paddle using an infrared detector mounted on the underside of the top deck and a castellated Sensor Pickup mounted on the inner clutch bush. The motion of the paddle revolved the sensor disk which in turn triggers the infrared detector. S4 BLE also provides a built-in Bluetooth feature, allowing for seamless connection to our portfolio of popular indoor rowing apps, such as WATERROWER CONNECT and CITYROW. A comfortable seat for rowing is essential for optimizing performance and ensuring a satisfying and effective workout experience. Provides proper cushioning and contouring, while minimizing pressure points and promotes healthy posture. Helps keep your focus on generating powerful and efficient strokes. Wheels for easing the movement of the machine provide an efficient solution to transporting the rower. These wheels are designed to enhance mobility and maneuverability in various settings, making it effortless to reposition and store without the need for excessive manual effort or additional equipment

  • Row row row your boat and it sounds like it too!
Color: Hi-Rise
My husband and I decided to purchase this row machine because I have to have everything matching and / or blending with my decor. We are getting older ... et em and well, need to tone up a bit but didn’t want a piece of equipment that likely would end up being a hanger for the clothes that don’t make it into the closet. Not only is this a beautiful piece of furniture that blends nicely when out (in the living room I might add) and stores quickly and easily, but we LOVE using it. The sound of the water takes you outside your living room to a serine spot to just row. You forget where you are - or maybe that’s because I am getting dizzy from my workout - in any event, it is low impact, easy to use, nice to look at and gives you a good workout without much effort. We absolutely love it and highly recommend. Top quality. Worth the investment! ... show more

  • Full Body Workout Without the Noise of Other Machines
Color: Hi-Rise
When researching purchasing a rowing machine, we came across reviews that listed this WaterRower as one of the top machines. When compared with the Concept2, to us, there was no contest. Who wants to put up with the harsh metallic noise of most rowers when we could listen to the relaxing swish of water you get with the WaterRower?! We ordered the WaterRower Club Rowing Machine w/ S4 Monitor & Hi Rise Attachment as a family Christmas gift, and it is a beautiful, furniture quality machine. Unfortunately, when we opened the package about a week before Christmas, we found that the tank was broken in several places. We emailed back and forth with the seller, Gronk Fitness Products, to get a replacement tank delivered before Christmas, so we could have the machine assembled and ready to use by December 25th. Gronk responded immediately, and was terrific to work with because they were courteous, timely, and sensitive to the fact that this was our family gift. The next time we need to purchase fitness products, we'll definitely check them out first! Because of having to replace the parts on the tank, our assembly time was probably doubled, but it would typically be pretty straightforward. As for the rower, we all love it! Just as soon as we filled the tank on the rower, I was on the seat, and rowing on this machine is a dream. It is quiet, relaxing and very effective at working the entire body. Can't wait to get today's workout in! (See attached photo of the WaterRower in our home gym.) ... show more

  • Candid and honest review from a nobody
Color: Hi-Rise
I am a typical American person who is overweight and pre-dietetic due a lifestyle of too much stress, to little exercise and the addition of the COVID weight gain. I want to make better choices and get healthy. So, with this in mind, I did research to find equipment that could meet my goal of cardio and minor strength training while being easy on my body (I’m older and don’t want to ruin my joints with hard impacts until my strength and weight are where they need to be) Rowing was recommended as a way to increase flexibility, stamina, strength and great cardio without being overly taxing on your body. This manufacturer and this machine was highly recommended by fitness magazines, some health care professionals and obviously the market place reviews. Now, I ALWAYS take reviews with a grain of salt. But the thing that kept coming up was the ease of use and the sound it makes while in use. I can honestly say, it is very meditating hearing the water churn with each stroke. Like being on a nice calm lake and you are rowing your boat. I really enjoy it. There is an onboard computer that tracks your time/distance/calories burned/workout session and other functions. It has no app separate so you need to use the computer if you want to track anything. Not an issue for me. The machine arrived in three boxes (normally two but I added the upgraded riser kit so the machine would be about a foot off the floor when in use). The one huge box contains the water bowl, the foot board and the pulley system, seat and various hardware to put everything together. The other long box was the rails and storage wheels. The instructions were clear and very detailed. Previous reviews lamented on things not lining up properly or needed additional holes drilled… this was NOT the case for me. However you must not fully tighten any of the hardware until the entire unit is put together. This is VERY IMPORTANT. You might need to push or pull on some items to get things to line up 100% because it is wood and wood can swell if it is humid during assembly. The assembly went very smoothly and quickly. Filling the water tank was a little tricky but as other have mentioned, just use the provided siphon tube and you will be fine. Make sure to add the water stabilization tablet so you don’t end up with funky water. It comes with two (replace once every 6 months of use) and when you register the machine you get these tablets free for life - really) Finally, the machine is solid, sturdy for me (I’m 6’3” 268lbs) and very smooth to use. It stands up when not in use and can be moved around if needed. The riser kit is an extra cost but makes getting onto and off of the rower easier for me. The sound of actually rowing in water and the resistance it provides (water will not compress so the harder you row the more resistance there is) works very well for me. Again, I’m not getting paid for this review. I bought the rower and zero discounts or kickbacks. In today’s world of fake news, influencer culture and paid reviews…. It’s sad that I have to add that disclaimer. For those that got though all of this, I hope you take my review for what it is. Do some of your own research and hopefully you purchase this rower from a company that actually is in America (Rhode Island) and is a real one with real people that can answer your questions and provide lifetime care. ... show more

  • Gorgeous, well made rower.
Color: Hi-Rise
This is a beautiful rower, I love the wood design and feel of this machine. The sound of the water in the drum is 10 times more relaxing then an air rower IMHO. Build quality is very good, the machine is very sturdy and does not squeak or creak at all. The only gripe I have about the design is the foot straps, I would love to have a little more of a gap between feet. Could use a little more of a gap between thighs. The feet rests are a little cheap and don't make it a nice experience if you wanted to row without shoes. Overall a great design, the ease of lifting up the unit and storing it upright is a huge space saver as well. ... show more

  • Waterrower that is a quality made in the Northeast
Color: Hi-Rise
I was skeptical about waterrowers. Friend of mine e mentioned he had one for 5 years now and never experienced an issue with it since it is purely mechanical and minimal moving parts. We have it a try. We live in a townhome and we’re limited on space. The unit is pleasing to eye, stores well against the wall, sturdy, and did I mention the relaxing water sound while exercising. Lastly, the low impact exercise is a butt kicker, so don’t be fooled that you will not your heart rate up. ... show more

  • IMPORTANT Info to help people set up the Hi-Rise legs EASILY!
Color: Hi-Rise
A few people have complained about putting the Hi-Rise legs on the WaterRower, and they gave it a low rating for that reason. I’m an old lady and I figured out how to do it. I’m writing this review with a few tips to show that it really is EASY. The WaterRower is a fantastic way to keep old tired muscles in shape, and even people who are not that good at DIY (like me) can put it together themselves. #1 You need a POWER DRILL for the screws (only for the Hi-Rise screws, not for the rest of the WaterRower). Reason is because the screws are going into hard wood. Same “screw hole,” but these are different screws. An “extender” for the screw bit is useful, but may not be necessary (my screw extender is around 4”). Everybody should have a power drill. Borrow one if you don’t have one. #2 IMPORTANT: The screws to attach the Hi-Rise are not the same screws as for the rubber pads. They are shorter, have a flat head, and different screw threads. You're supposed to get a bag of 16 DIFFERENT screws for the Hi-Rise. If you try to use the screws from the rubber pads that came on the rails, you will not be able to get them into the hard wood, so don’t even try. I ordered my WaterRower from a third party on Amazon, and it was perfect, except that the bag of screws for the Hi-Rise was not included. If that happens, call WaterRower. They sent me a bag of screws, even extra screws, and I got them in the mail the next day. #3 Get a DRY bar of soap (or some hard wax, like from a candle). Roll the screws back and forth in the dry soap wax to cover as much of the screw’s thread as possible, including the tip of the screw. #4 You don’t need to drill a pilot hole for the screws because they already have a pilot hole from the screws for the rubber pads that came on the rails. You don’t need to drill the hole bigger. #5 Use the power drill to slowly drill the screws in as far as they comfortably go, without any strain, then back them out. Do this a few times, in and out, and they will then go all the way in without effort. If you manhandle the screw, it can strip the screw and then you’d have to use Vice-Grips to get the screw out. If you go in and out, slowly, several times, with the soap wax on the screw, it will go all the way in without effort, without any manhandling. The rest of the assembly of the WaterRower is a breeze. A few people have complained about putting on the Hi-Rise legs, but it sure does make a difference getting on and off the machine, especially if you are an old lady with arthritis in the knees. ALSO, if you buy from a third party, know that if you call WaterRower, they will register your machine (get the serial number off the back of the meter on it), and you will get two additional years of Warranty for FREE. I was also told, after registering, that the water purification tablets are free, for the lifetime of the machine. They sent me a few extra tablets with the screws. AND ALSO - please note: I asked WaterRower if it's a good idea to install the Hi-Rise legs first, before assembling the rest of the machine, and they said yes, it's fine, no problem with assembling the rest if you do the Hi-Rise legs first. If you live within driving distance they will even assemble your machine for you for free, no matter where you bought it, if you have a vehicle that can transport it back home. They can’t ship a fully assembled WaterRower. The WaterRower people are friendly, helpful, and very accommodating! ... show more

  • If the museum of modern art ...
Color: Hi-Rise
If NYC's Museum of Modern Art had a sports equipment section, this rower would hold an honored place. An absolutely exquisite piece of sports equipment that is bloody substantial with its ash wood composition and a real pleasure to actually work. Note that it is not particularly user-friendly to put together but good videos on this can be found on YouTube along with an excellent video on the rowing technique itself all by the manufacturer WaterRower. When not in use and in its upright stationary position, a beautiful addition to any room. The company has been particularly responsive when contacted with post-build issues. ... show more
