For about 10 years now, we run the hose to water our garden and forget to turn it off, inevitably resulting in burst hoses. I think we've purchased at least 12 hoses over the years because of this. We saw these and hoped they would be a solution. They are easy to program and work like a charm. Hopefully, this means we get through this season without a burst hose.

These little single zone timers are real problem solvers. I use them all over my urban garden. Besides the obvious, they can be used in series to solve supply multiple types of plants down a single line - say when you have potatoes and tomatoes on the same irrigation circuit. Place this single zone timer in series at the end of the tomato soaker hose - synchronize the clocks and watering times, and shorten the potates to half the tomato watering time. This valve will take care of the rest. These valves are not frost resistant, (duh) but they are exceeding easy to drain and remove during winter, so just do your due dilligence and you'll be fine. They program SUPER EASY. No manual reading required, but the included manual fully explains how to program them. The dial-a-function knob is super easy to understand and the display is BIG AND EASY TO READ. Thanks for that! I have purchased a number of these, and every one is a winner. I heartily recommend them for problem solving water supplies to urban gardens, extra finnicky sprinkler starved parts of your larger sprinkler system...even bird-bath rechargers. The uses just keep popping up. Mine seem to run about 10 months on 2 AAA batteries with no issues. The housing is a fairly sturdy plastic. Use them appropriately, but use them anywhere you need to control the supply of water flow on an automated basis. These WORK! Five stars, highly recommended device.

I got this timer for my new irrigation system so its position will be out in the open. The timer feels well made as it feels quite solid but I am worried about the material it is made from. It is all plastic and the plastic feels like it may not last in harsh conditions. I cannot say this with certainty and only time will tell. I may make a small wood enclosure to protect it from the sun so it will last longer. If you are not putting this in direct sunlight I think it will be ok. With that said, the timer is quite good and easy to use. Setting the time and timer setting is just turning the dial and punish + or - and then ok. Pretty straight forward. The timer uses 2 AA batteries to operate. The package comes with an adapter for garden hose without the male /female screw heads so the open hose could just be pushed in without screwing. There is also a filter which I find quite nice as my previous timer did not have this. The filter will block any tiny rocks, etc from flowing through. Overall, I find this a good product and easy to use. It does what it is made to do.

PROS: Compact size, easy to read and follow instruction manual, quick and easy to set-up and install, standard hose fittings, many options for watering schedules and skipping day(s), precise minute and hour settings, large easy to read display. CONS: Rain delay is manual (IE: it doesn't sense the rain, you need to push the delay button if it rains or is going to rain), needs 2 AA batteries that are not included (specifically says you can't use rechargeable batteries), low power draw so batteries should last the season, time will tell. Good overall value for convenient set and forget watering needs.

I ordered this and then it started raining and kept raining and now we're using the water from our rain barrels- but I look forward to hooking up and not having to water in the dry months of July/August. Seems simple and straightforward to set up.
