The instructions for first time set up are terrible to start with. We finally got it set and on the wall only to find that it's almost impossible to read. You can see all kinds of numbers etc behind the readout on the time.

With the base and remote sensor sitting beside each other there's a 5 degree difference in the readings. My thermostat registers between them. Should get you in the ballpark but it clearly was not calibrated very well. Took it's sweet time downloading the time from the satellite, hopefully it auto-runs like it's supposed to nightly. Screen is clear and easy to read in a dimly-lit room.

The time display on this clock is big--big enough to read across a room. It is an atomic clock, which means it adjusts itself to WWVB, the time radio broadcast of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (formerly National Bureau of Standards), which is connected to a set of atomic clocks. The time will automatically update itself every day. You can force it to update by pressing the up-arrow button on the back for more than two seconds. When it's updating, you'll see the radio tower symbol blink. If you're getting good reception, you'll see circular arcs appear over the radio tower. If not, the clock will not be able to update, and it will try again later. You may have to walk around your house with the clock while it's updating to see where you can get good reception; you'll have 7 minutes to do so. (You can still force it to update again.) After updating, it will be the most accurate clock in your house. If your favorite spot for the clock has bad reception, unfortunately its atomic updating feature will be useless, and it will have to be used as an ordinary quartz clock. Settings are done by holding down the Mode key for more than three seconds; then you scroll through each setting by pressing the Mode key. To make an adjustment of a certain setting, you use the up- and down-arrow keys. When you're done, keep pressing the Mode key until you see the regular time display. If the time gets screwed up, you can always force it to adjust itself to WWVB. It has an outdoor weather sensor, but I don't use it since I already have one. I do like the indoor built-in temperature sensor, which is pretty accurate. You need three AAA batteries for the clock, and two AAA batteries for the outdoor temperature sensor, which are not included. The one drawback to this isn't the device itself, but the directions, which are very poorly written. They are not easy to understand. But play around with it. Forced reupdating will get you back on track.

I ordered this to keep at work to monitor temperature in the office. I had brought in a VERY old clock with similar features (remote sensor, atomic time setting, etc), but the display was quite small, and the remote sensor was lost many years ago. This one has a massive clock display, and the indoor and outdoor temperatures are nice and big, too. I put the batteries in it when I brought it to work and placed it on a window sill behind my desk to see if it would pick up the correct time via the atomic clock radio signal, and it did so quite quickly - even though my office building is a giant metal box (other than the windows). Once it got the time signal, I moved it away from the window onto another shelf. Since this isn't installed at my house, I didn't have a lot of flexibility on placement for the outdoor sensor, so I ended up sticking some dual-lock (heavy-duty velcro-like material) to the back of the remote sensor and I stuck it to the underside of the outer window frame, with the "front" of the sensor facing downward. My hope is that this small overhang will offer some protection from the elements. This sensor location doesn't provide shade, so I did notice that it was reporting the outside temperature as 70 degrees when the sun was shining on it (actual outside temp was probably around 58-60 degrees at the time). I may see if I can find a better spot for it in the future, but for now I will live with this. (I have another similar temperature/clock at home, and I hang the sensor outside, high up on a column of my front porch, since this offers very good protection from rain/snow/sun. Overall, I am very pleased with this product -- it offers very easy setup and big bold text for good visibility . Easy 5-star rating!

This digital clock with both indoor and outdoor temperature display was a breeze to set up. It literally took me less than 3 minutes to install the batteries and set the time and date. Another couple minutes to put in a screw to mount the remote sensing unit outside away from direct sunlight. The main display requires 3 AAA batteries (not included). The outdoor temperature sensor requires 2 AAA batteries (not included). As soon as I installed the batteries, the remote temperature sensor immediately connected with the main display unit. I have my outdoor temperature sensor approximately 40 feet from the indoor display unit and the signal between the 2 is very strong... 4 out of 4 bars . The temperature appears to be accurate based on other thermometers in the house. In addition to time and indoor and outdoor temperature, this unit displays the day and date as well as the moon phase. It also has an alarm. This is an LCD display. And it does not light up. I like it for this reason. The display is in my bedroom. And I don't want any lights on at night. You can see it fine during the day or with lights on in the room. But it will not be visible in the dark. It has a black display over a light gray background.
