Amazon offers dozens and dozens of small space heaters geared toward knocking off the chill in a small space. The problem is that most of these small space heaters have small fans that run at higher RPM and produce a significant amount of sound and don't really move much air, so you get noise and it is very warm close to the heater, but still cold only a couple feet away. In addition, most are not heat selectable, so they draw a large amount of current that can't be adjusted and in the office setting, you may not have enough current to run a 1000W-1500W space heater. If that happens, then you'll trip the electrical breaker for your office and maybe a few adjoining ones. Then you'll have the facilities people on your butt for having an unapproved electrical device. I drew the unlucky straw of getting the office at work with the cold air return for HVAC in it, so my office is cold all winter long. So cold that it's referred to as The Beer Fridge. Then in the summer, it turns into an oven. In desperation I bought one of the typical inexpensive heaters that drew 1250W and put it under my desk. It was very warm under my desk, but took a very long time to make the office comfortable. In addition, one cooler morning a coworker in the next office turned on a space heater also and it popped the breaker for 4 offices. We were not very popular as the Facilities person was in a different building that morning and it took a couple hours until we had power in our offices again. So, time to look for a better space heater that had an adjustable heat setting and would move air better. Something that was more fan than toaster oven. That is what the Vornado VH202 is. It really moves a much larger quantity of air and it is quiet. It is more a fan with a heating element than a space heater. It is selectable for 375W or 750W, so I can avoid run-ins with Facilities and warms the whole office up instead of just creating a hot-spot under my desk. As and added bonus, you can also run it in fan-only mode for those warmer days. The only thing missing in this model is a thermostat that some space heaters have. Not a big thing for me as I never leave it running when not in my office, but if that feature is important to you, then look at some of Vornado's higher-end models. Works very well so far. on low setting it's perfect for my underdesk needs. It's quiet, provides just the right amount of heat and the draw is so little I can run it all day without tripping circuit breakers.

I've downgraded this from 4 starts to 1 star after going through 4 of these heaters in the last two years. This is my third one of the new generation that has broken and cuts off after 2 minutes with an overheat. My original of these heaters was very reliable and lasted for years. The new generation are great for the first 1-3 months, then just inexplicably break with poor quality control and no longevity. I would not recommend this heater any more if you want something that is going to last. It's great when it works, and I may have to reluctantly buy a 4th one as I can't find a better option that fits on a desk. ... show more

My hvac went out during a cold spell. Average temps have been 17°. Then we had a snow and ice storm along with the low temps and this tiny little space heater has saved the day. This is an excellent heater, and deserves five stars. However, I gave it four because it does not have all the features of most heaters. But you save money for that reason. It is roughly ½- to- ⅓ the price of most larger heaters. Although it does not have a thermostat (like many heaters), it will adequately warm a typical bedroom to roughly 70 degrees (or slightly more). It is important to note the differences with typical heaters. The heat settings for this model are at a levels that are ¼- to- ½ the amount of most larger heaters. Most heaters have heat settings at 750W and 1500W. But this heater is rated at 375W and 750W. Again, at 750W, it will keep a bedroom comfortably warm at around 70 degrees. But with a heating limit of 750W, there is no higher setting to initially warm a room quickly. It will take roughly twice as long to initially heat a cold room compared to a 1500W heater. Otherwise, it will maintain the heated room like more expensive heaters. One advantage with this smaller heater is you can heat at 375W--which will reduce the amount of electricity drawn from an outlet. If you already have other items plugged into the same outlet, this extra low heating level will potentially keep your outlet from exceeding electrical limits (that may cause a circuit to "break" or shut off). Of course at 375W, it will require even more time to initially heat a room than at 750W (and much longer than 1500W of more expensive heaters). Note, 375W may not be adequate to heat unusually cold/large rooms (but should work for most rooms). Otherwise, the heater is small in size, compared to most heaters, and also has a smaller fan size. Smaller-sized fans tend to make more noise than larger fans, but this fan remains quiet. However, a smaller fan does not push the heat as far out as larger fans. This may be why some reviews state that the heat seems inadequate. In reality, heat rises to the ceiling first. It will take time for enough heat to warm a room down to chair- or- bed level. If you have a secondary fan (not heater), you can use that fan to mix the heat near the ceiling with the cooler temperature areas near the floor. ... show more

this unit for small space is the best I could find. It is quiet, dependable, safe, no smells. It works for many hours and does not get hot, you can use designated handle to pick it up , it turns itself off if lifted and starts again as soon as set back. The output air is soft and very warm, not hot, very comfortable, it releases warm/hot air in front of it and releases cool air on it's sides.
