Top Amazon Reviews

🚀 Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

The Vornado Low Profile Transom Window Fan is a compact unit yet provides powerful airflow. The majority of reviewers appreciate its noise level, which ranges from being barely noticeable on the low setting to being similar to a white noise machine on the highest. The product is also designed in a way that leaves more window space for a view. It has convenient features such as a remote control and an automatic temperature control system, but the implementation of some of these features could be improved.

Pros

  • 🍃 Superior air flow despite its compact size
  • 🎚️ Four speed settings to choose from
  • 🔇 Quiet operation, especially on lower settings
  • 🌡️ Automatic temperature control feature
  • 🔄 Reverse air flow capability
  • 🕹️ Includes a remote control for convenience
  • 💡 Detailed power and settings display on the front panel
  • 🪟 Leaves more window space for viewing

Cons

  • 💡 Display only illuminates the on/off button when in run mode
  • 🌬️ Airflow cannot be redirected towards the ceiling or floor
  • 🔋 Settings reset to factory defaults when powered off
  • 🪧 Foam blocks provided for fitting in windows may not fit all windows perfectly
  • 🌞 Some parts of the fan may quickly yellow due to sun exposure

Should I Buy It?

If you're looking for a fan that strikes a balance between compact design and efficient air delivery, the Vornado Low Profile Transom Window Fan is a considerable choice. It's ideal for those who also desire a window fan that does not obstruct their view. However, keep in mind that the fan might not perfectly fit all windows and the settings reset when the unit is powered off. Overall, it seems to be an impressive product with a higher satisfaction rate.

  • It works and very minimal view obstruction
Color: Black Style: Remote Control Pattern Name: Fan
Easy install and effective! Other reviews complained about a gap using the foam blocks, I've got very little gap and the window is open anyhow so don't think it'll matter. It fits just fine with the screen down in the window as there's clearance in my window. No it doesn't move air like a big box fan however it does move air. Set this up at the hottest part of the day in a window facing the late afternoon sun and it cooled down the living room 5 degrees within 30 minutes, room is approximately 12 x 12. Thermostat feature is fantastic! It reached just below my set temperature and noise on highest setting was extremely minimal. Took a week to arrive although was told it would arrive next day as apparently UPS lost the package and I could have bought closer to my workplace but I decided to wait and honestly I wished I bought another for my kitchen window. It's pricey but definitely worth the cost! I have yet to try the exhaust feature but will have to at some point and will update my review. ... show more

  • A window fan that is ACTUALLY quiet!
Color: Black Style: Remote Control Pattern Name: Fan
My number one priority, in purchasing a window fan, was to get something QUIET. I had spent more money than I would have liked purchasing the traditional two fan window units that are so common today. Based on the promise and supporting reviews that they were very quiet fans, I purchased both a popular Bionaire and a Holmes fan. They were ok, but not nearly good enough. I wanted a fan as quiet as my ceiling fan on low and those two weren’t even in the ballpark. So through more searching, I eventually landed on the Vornado Transom. It’s not a traditional fan by any stretch of the imagination, but a few people said it was extremely quiet. Desperate to find something quieter than the others, I placed my bet. This fan is ACTUALLY quiet! On it’s lowest setting, it is a whisper compared to the other two. No, it’s not ceiling fan quiet, but I would compare it to the sound I’d hear coming through the vent when my central air is running. That’s pretty quiet! On high, yes the fan is much more noisy, but it moves a lot more air when on high. To be clear, low speed moves plenty of air, and high speed is not more noisy than the other models on high. Another difference between the Vornado and the other models, is the the fan speeds are SIGNIFICANTLY different. The difference between low and high on the other models is marginal at best. With the Vornado, low is ACTUALLY low… and high is ACTUALLY high. So you can choose between a quiet fan that gives you a nice breeze, or a noisy fan that moves air with quite a bit of force. Again, this unit on high was about as noisy as the other fans on high. On low, there is no contest. Do you get what I’m saying yet? THIS FAN IS VERY QUIET… MUCH quieter than any other window fan I’ve tried. So that’s the big sell for me. Other good features: The temperature selection works well. I set it up for 70 degrees, and it effectively turned on and off as necessary to bring in the cooler outside air. Since I keep the fan on low, I barely noticed when it turned on and off at all. This fan also gives you great privacy because you can’t see through it whether it’s on or off. A couple of not so great things about it... First, the foam blocks are not great. I needed an additional block that was 1/4 inch wide… I either had to try and squish a 1 inch block in that space (nope) or use something else to seal it. Vornado should rethink this strategy or include 1/2 and 1/4 inch blocks too. Considering the high quality construction of the unit, and the steeper price tag, Vornado should come up with something more eloquent. Secondly, the remote isn’t wonderful. You have to aim it DIRECTLY at the unit while you are DIRECTLY in front of it. And the range of the remote seems to be a pitiful 15 feet or so. I don’t know if that’s typical of this unit, but it’s definitely not great. Despite those two shortcomings, I still give the unit 5 stars based on its EXTREMELY LOW noise level given the decent amount of air it moves. If I ever need an additional window fan, this is the one I’ll get. ... show more

  • Much better
Color: Black Style: Remote Control Pattern Name: Fan
Definitely an improvement. My bedroom gets so hot in the summer, even with the AC going. It’s on the north-west corner of our house but heats up like crazy during the day. My alarm clock has a built-in thermometer and the room is usually at least a few degrees warmer than the rest of the house. It can get over 80°F in there at night. (Even in the dead of winter, 20°F outside, I often have to crack the window for a few hours, or it’ll be too hot to sleep.) This fan looks nice. It’s decently quiet. And moves air nicely. I usually use the exhaust setting just to keep the air moving. But in the evening, I’ll switch it to draw cool air in for a few hours before bed. The foam gap-inserts meant to fill in the gaps around the sides are just… dumb. The way they’re designed, they aren’t universal and they don’t fit my window AT ALL. There are 3 different sizes, but if the space you need to fill isn’t exactly in full-inches, you’re going to have a gap of whatever remaining the partial inch happens to be (1/4, 1/2, 3/4” etc). Mine has about 1/2” gap, so I had to space out the inserts carefully. Because they don’t fit my window, they don’t want to stay up either; they kept falling back against the screen behind the fan. Took me ages to get it all in and “stable.” The thermostat is handy. But… it has issues. I don’t know where it’s placed but I’m not sure it’s in a very good spot: The inside temperature can be 80°F, but if the outside temp is 59°, the fan won’t kick on because it’s reading the outside temp. The auto-fan temperature setting also only goes down to 60°. So while your room may be too hot, if it’s only 59° outside, it’ll be reading the external temperature and won’t automatically turn on. That’s a bit annoying. Where I live, the nighttime temperatures often get quite low, even if it was 90°F all day. Pros: It’s versatile, looks nice, the noise isn’t too disruptive, and it’s pretty powerful. It works well and is a pretty good improvement over the standard, dual-blade window fans on the market. The remote control is also very handy. (It’s part of what tipped the scale between this fan and another brand, tbh.) And the manufacturer warranty is pretty decent. (I also bought an extended warranty though.) Cons: The gap-filler inserts are really only suitable for whatever, very specific window the company used as a template. If you have older or “non-standard” (whatever “standard” even is right now), expect to have to fuss with them and probably have gaps due to their limitations. (I’m not sure why they decided that the usual accordion-style extenders were less preferable. Feels a bit like they decided “reinventing the wheel,” so-to-speak, was a “good idea” in this case. It usually isn’t.) Finally, the thermostat is placed in such a way that it often reads the temperature outside, instead of the temperature inside the room you want to regulate. If it’s too hot inside, but the outdoor temperature is low, the thermostat becomes useless; you’ll have to switch it to manual operation. ... show more
