Description

The Rometty is based on our traditional 2976 pattern with a thick, platform sole to take this style to the next level. Accentuated heel and vamp pannels add a contemporary feel to a well-known style. Dr. Martens is the stuff of legends. It all began near Munich, Germany in 1945 when Dr. Klaus Maertens injured his foot in a skiing accident in the Bavarian Alps. To make walking easier during the healing process, he designed a shoe with an air-cushioned sole. Using old rubber tires, he constructed soles that had air trapped within closed compartments. He showed his prototype to his engineer/inventor friend, Dr. Herbert Funck, and together they decided to develop and produce the shoes. Not only did the shoe solve the doctor's immediate problem, but it also started to sell well in Germany. By 1959 the two decided that they needed a company to produce and distribute the shoes, then called Dr. Maertens, in other parts of the world. At first, many manufacturers rejected the concept of an air cushioned sole as a short-lived gimmick. However, the R. Griggs Group, located in the village of Wollaston in England, decided to go along with the idea by creating the first work boot with the revolutionary sole. On the first of April 1960, the first cherry red eight-eyelet work boot was produced and named 1460. To sell the brand name better in England, the name was anglicized to Dr. Martens. The range was branded AirWair and the rest is history.

  • 98% Perfect
Size: 7 Color: Black Burnished Wyoming
Love, love, LOVE these boots! I've always wanted a pair and I'm happy with them now that I finally have them. Totally did not realize they were steel toe boots when I bought them (they were on sale for 30% off!) so that was a nice bonus to discover when I tried them on the first time. They're snug around the ankle, easy to get on and off, stylish and sturdy, AND I get an extra three inches of height too! Two complaints. First is that the fit is a little loose (I'm a size 7 and ordered a size 7), but wearing a pair of thick socks, or two pairs of thin socks, makes them fit perfectly. Not a big deal considering they're my fall/winter boots for work, and I intended on wearing thick socks with them anyway. Second, the elastic on the outside of the right boot is already starting to fray :( I didn't realize that that was "a thing" common to the Chelsea boots after Doc Marten switched manufacturers, so to say I'm bummed is a bit of an understatement. I bought them in September 2022 and it's now the beginning of November 2022, so it only took about 2 months of consistent wear for the fraying to start. ... show more

  • Give them a couple wears to break them in and they’re great
Size: 8 Color: Black Burnished Wyoming
These are less rough to break in than other Docs I’ve had (looking at you, Jadons). It takes about two days to break them in, and during that time, there’s some discomfort but not really pain. After they’re broken in, they’re so comfortable it’s ridiculous. They look great. Docs do run a tad big, so if you’re between sizes, you could probably size down. I’m about a 7.5 but I usually stick to the 8 with boots so I have room for thicker socks. The 8 for these is very roomy for me. Other reviews mention that these are hard to get on, which they do require a little pulling and stretching, but I think some of them were exaggerating. I put my foot in vertically and use the strap to pull them on. I’ve yet to have any issues getting them on or off, and the more you wear them, the easier it gets. ... show more

  • Fit perfectly, exactly what I wanted
Size: 9 Color: Black Burnished Wyoming
Super comfortable real doc martens for quite a good price point. I’m usually a 9.5, ordered the size 9 and they fit well. I have super wide feet, so I used a shoe stretcher thing for one night before wearing them all day to work the next day, and I had no issues with the width. I was standing most of the day, so I got a little stiff but I think that’s simply due to the shoe having a heel rather than anything else. I really love these. They can be dressed up or down. I’ve worn them everyday since I got them. ... show more

  • Confused By The Reviews
Size: 6 Color: Black Burnished Wyoming
I was confused by the reviews regarding sizing. Some were adamant to “size up”, others equally adamant to “size down.” I wear a woman’s U.S. 6.5 medium (Euro 37) in shoes and boots. I chose to purchase the U.S. size 6. The tag on the inside of the boot reads U.S. 6. I was expecting difficulty getting them on, and with a shoe horn, that was true, but only the first 2 times. After that, I needed the shoehorn about 3-4 more times, and now I slip them on somewhat easily. The first time on, the left boot seemed to squish up my toes. I put a boot stretcher in that one over night. After that, I have been wearing them daily, on concrete floors, for long days. Absolutely comfortable, and I get compliments from everyone, young and old. The boots now feel a bit roomy inside, so I put on a heavier sock, which was my original intention. I don’t know if the toe is a “steel toe” but it feels like another boot I own that I know has steel toes. Very sturdy whatever it is. I purchased these for riding my Motor-scooter, because I could not touch ground, and these have helped, but since they are so comfortable and look great with so many things, I wear them for almost everything I do. I’d purchase these again. ... show more

  • Want to love but....
Size: 6 Color: Black Burnished Wyoming
First off, these Docs are seriously so cute. You're paying for a high quality Chelsea with this option. Could easily be paired with with anything. The downfall is getting your foot inside. Oh.my.lord. I get that it takes time to break in, but to break a sweat getting it on? Nah.

  • Takes a minute to break them in, but it’s soooo worth it
Size: 7 Color: Black Burnished Wyoming
As always, I thoroughly read dozens of reviews to make an informed decision on these boots. I decided to go for it, and I want to give a bit of advice so you won’t end up with painful blisters, and cuts like I saw on some poor person’s ankles here. As far as the sizing goes, I normally wear a 7.5 regular or wide depending on the brand (love the lack of consistent sizing for most clothing and shoes, yuck). Based on what I read, size 7 would fit best. No toe pinching at all, they are literally perfect. The top of my foot felt a little snug for a couple of days, but they loosened up just a little and now they’ve molded to my feet. These are challenging to pull on for about 7 days. I noticed marked improvement on day 3, but still tough. I had to WORK my feet into these the first time. I want to say it took me almost 15 minutes to get them on. If you’re like me and can’t make your foot flex like a ballerina, there is hope, it just takes patience, and extra time getting dressed so you’re not late from fighting to get your boots on. 3 weeks in, and I can get them on in 2 minutes or better. Let’s talk socks. You will need some thick socks, I went with Hanes extra cushion crew socks. I made the mistake of using ankle socks that were maybe half an inch too short, so my shins got bruised AF from the boots rubbing and pressing against them. Once I got my new socks, I folded them down over themselves so I’d have easily 2 inches of sock above boot, and extra padding from the punishing top of the boot. Not once did my actual feet hurt from wearing, it was just the shins. I don’t have to fold my socks down any longer, as they’re pretty much broken in after 3 weeks. Thicker socks feel great with these, I’ve been wearing them to work everyday and my other work shoes are dead to me. RIP Skechers ✌🏻 ... show more

  • Love
Size: 8 Color: Black Burnished Wyoming
So happy with these. They’re so cute and the perfect fall boot. They are a little tight to slip on around the ankles but nothing crazy. Did my normal size and only fits snug like any new shoe. Wore them a whole 6 hr shift and didn’t get uncomfortable until the last hour, no blisters lol I was a bit worried since Docs are notoriously bad to break in. ... show more
