This is a very sturdy device, and is fairly easy to assemble. Three persons worked on this project. It DOES NEED A TOOL simply because the little chotchkey thingee does not fit. Even if it did, it would be inadequate to tighten the hex nuts securely. Other than that, I am happy with my purchase.
