Being descendants of desert animals, most domestic cats don't drink enough and they are thus prone to kidney and other serious health issues. This is why we have always had a fountain of some sort for our 4 legged family members since the recirculating water encourages adequate hydration. Our current choice is the VEKEN 84oz model with which we could not be more pleased. Originally purchased in November 2019, it has been in continuous use for over 4 years without a problem or concern of any sort. It still looks and operates like it did the day we got it. Is whisper quiet except for a light gurgling/tinkling sound as the water level goes down. Fill it up and the sound disappears. Our cat Charlie likes to drink standing up which causes quite the splashing so we got a good-sized rubber mat to go under his food and water (see photo). I would recommend this regardless as it likely quells any pump motor noise or vibration on a hard surface floor. You will want to keep the fountain clean. We wash ours about once per week. Disassemble and put it in the dishwasher is all it takes. The pump comes partially apart and we send those parts through the dishwasher as well (careful not to lose anything - they are small parts). Rinse the motor and filter thoroughly with tap water and a little toothbrush, reassemble and you should be good for another week. Sounds more time consuming and trouble than it actually is in practice. We do keep some q-tips around to deep clean the pump from time to time as it has some nooks and crannies that will collect sludge. Once every so often, we will place the pump in a cup of warm water, add a few drops of household bleach, and let it soak while the dishwasher does its thing on the other parts. This will sanitize the areas of the pump you just can't clean thoroughly. As far as replacing the filter, we put in a new one about once per month. It helps to regularly clean the fountain to get maximum filter life. As I recall, when the fountain was first purchased it came with 2 or 3 extra filters and we purchased a full box of replacements at the same time. They are not expensive and readily available on Amazon. One word of caution about this fountain - unlike some it does not have a reservoir. All the pumped water flows back into the body of the fountain which is not accessible to your pet. What this means is if the power goes out (or the pump should fail) and the water stops recirculating, there is nothing for your pet to drink. So, if you are going to use your fountain during periods your pet(s) may be home alone for long periods of a day or more, best practice would be to leave a bowl of water out for them just in case. Typically I would not come back after 4 years to leave a review but this product deserves it. Adter about 5 years of constant use my last fountain died (pump). Rather than trying to find a replacement pump, I opted to just buy a whole new one. This version has some nice improvements. The pump now has a coarse sponge in front to help trap hair before it is pulled into the motor and the motor, itself, is now able to be partially disassembled for cleaning. My cats love this fountain and they drink far more water than the would with a standing bowl. I do not use the filters though as I found they get manky pretty quickly. Instead, I just clean and refill it every few days. The only downside is the piece that goes around the rim has a lot of nooks and crannys so regular cleaning is necessary and a bit more time consuming. However, for the price and the fact I got 5 years out of the last one, I really don't mind doing a more detailed clean! ... show more

I have bought almost every cat fountain created in the last 20 years (I draw the line at price - my cats do not need an $80 water fountain. I don't even buy a $3 bottle of water for myself...) I love this fountain and so does my cat. It is so easy to assemble and best of all SO easy to clean. The sections come apart easily (see videos and manufacturer's video) and there are no nooks, crannies, little compartments or twisty edges that get full of slimy goo and make you invent your own tools out of bamboo skewers and paper towels to try to get into the stupid, sharp pockets. I was dubious about this fountain because it was affordable, but there's also 3 ways to present the water - flowing a bit flat so it quietly cascades, attaching the "straw" and little plastic flower so it dribbles and dances like it's running down an umbrella or if you twist the flower-topper snug, the water follows the 4 channels of the flower, making small streams. This didn't work with my cat since he thinks water is a toy. The fountain approach just made him sit there all day, swiping it and licking it of his paws (Me : "Why are you soaking wet?! Gross!") This also comes with a nice sized, pretty matching silicone (?) mat so the fountain doesn't vibrate and the water stays off everything (unless you have my cat.) My only complaint is it wasn't as quiet as it sounded like it'd be. Not terrible, but I had it in my bedroom and it was annoying. I thought the waterfall option would be a bit Zen Like but it kept me up (which is my fault, not the product.) When it was running it just seemed loud. A tip is to fill only to the place the instructions tell you. I just put water in it and filled it too high, and this created extra water in the pool which it didn't need to flow correctly. It was about 12' from my bed but I still found the water falling sound too loud for my liking. I hardly add water. I do to change it but it doesn't evaporate away and I don't have to change it every day or so because I know it's building up slmy goo and food parts. It'd be great if you go on vacation or away for a few days especially. The filters are great and I just rinsed mine under the faucet the first 2 times I really cleaned it. There was nothing there to worry about. No hair, no particles, no cloudy water. This is a great value and I very much love it. I bought 2 more for presents. It's the kind of thing most would like but aren't spending the money on and people I know who had a fountain had the kind with the stupid nooks and crannies and slimy goo. Unfortunately the first fountain I received came out of the box visibly used, dirty/stained, smelled, and was missing about 1/3rd of the pieces. I contacted Amazon for an exchange and received a new fountain that my cat loves. It is actually completely silent and very easy to assemble. It’s perfect for animals that prefer running taps instead of water bowls. Cleaning has been very easy for me. There are 2 filters that ensure your animals water stays fresh, which I love. Overall very happy with it but only gave it 4/5 stars for sending me a dirty and used fountain before a new one. I attached pictures of both the first and second fountain I received. ... show more

extremely loud and I’m half deaf it also stopped working after less than 3 months. My cat does love drinking from it but my cat loves water in general edit: company reached out to me and sent out a motor free of charge and it now works and it’s not loud at all.
