Frequently asked questions

The SureFeed Microchip Pet Feeder is a highly sophisticated device designed to help control your pet's diet. It uses microchip technology to only open for a registered pet's microchip or RFID collar tag to prevent other pets from accessing the food. This feeder is especially useful if you have more than one pet and need to ensure that a specific pet gets its special diet or medication.

The SureFeed Microchip Pet Feeder is designed to work with cats and small dogs. It's not suitable for larger breeds due to the size of the feeding area.

The SureFeed Microchip Pet Feeder Connect communicates with the hub to record your pet's feeding habits and helps you monitor your pet's diet through an app on your phone. The hub is necessary for the connect version of the feeder to enable these smart features and is sold separately.

Yes, one hub can connect with multiple SureFeed Microchip Pet Feeders. This is beneficial for households with multiple pets, allowing you to monitor all your pets' feeding habits from one place.

🚀 Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

The SureFeed Microchip Pet Feeder Connect generally receives positive feedback from consumers, as it largely addressed their pet feeding issues. Customers specially appreciate its promise to deliver regulated meal times specifically for their cats. However, some customers pointed out issues around battery life, the need to constantly reset settings, and difficulty in keeping other pets from accessing the feeder.

Pros

  • 🐱 Solves the problem of specific diets, and regulating cat meal times.
  • 🐈 Works quite effectively with dry food and helps to control overeating.
  • 🤖 The design is quite pleasing, fitting well within home decor.
  • 👀 Comes with an instructional manual to guide users on how to get the most out of the feeder.

Cons

  • ⚡ The feeder runs on batteries, which need to be replaced frequently - every month according to one user.
  • 🔄 The need to frequently contact customer service to reset settings due to malfunction can be quite tedious.
  • 👥 It's difficult to prevent other non-chipped pets from accessing the feeder, making it necessary to purchase an additional accessory.
  • 📱 Basic custom features are not in the phone application, which could be inconvenient for some users.

Should I Buy It?

If you need a solution for feeding pets with specific diets at regulated times, then the SureFeed Microchip Pet Feeder Connect could be a good option for you. However, keep in mind you may encounter issues with battery life, additional accessory costs, frequent setting resets, and potential access by other non-chipped pets. If these issues do not pose a significant concern for you, then this product could be well worth considering.

  • Exactly what I had hoped for!
Style: Connect Version
After rescuing 3 cats, who ended up all with different nutritional needs (kitten vs adult, special GI food for one, and medications for the other), ensuring everyone got what they needed was almost impossible. Surefeed was the perfect solution and has offered such peace of mind - everyone gets their full portions (no food stealing), i only have to pay for the medicated food for the kitty who needs it, and the cats can graze as much as they want! Cons: Cost - this item is expensive, especially for 3! I definitely had to save up for each one. But, for the benefits above, I think it's worth it. Microchip - I had no issue with Minnie, however for the 2 boys for some reason I had the hardest time getting the feeders to recognize their microchips. I called customer service (they were fabulous), who changed the mode to recognize expanded frequencies of chips in case that was the issue. It wasn't, but worth a shot if you're having trouble. Ultimately, I think their chips were just too far back on their bodies and the boys weren't getting close enough to trigger. What worked the best was buying a stand which raised the feeder just enough that when the boys walked up they were positioned further inside the opening. Now the feeder senses their chips no issue. I bought the stands on etsy, but I'm sure you could find it other places if you think it would be helpful. Note: Surefeed does provide tags you can use in place of a microchip, but none of my cats wear collars, and the attempt to get the boys used to collars was NOT going well. So relieved I could get it working! If your cat already wears a collar though, this would be an easy alternative. Overall, an amazing prodect, and would highly recommend for anyone with multiple cats! ... show more

  • Helping my fat cat with his diet
Style: Connect Version
I purchased this product without the hub (it isn't required although some of the hub features might be helpful for some). I have two cats: one who likes to graze and one who will inhale all food in sight and beg for more (same, buddy). However, after my little cement block was, deservedly, fat-shamed at the vet, we got this feeder to help him control his eating. More specifically, the dry food that he won't stop eating is now no longer available to him. The product comes with a single bowl and a pair of separated half-size bowls, as well as a rubbery-feeling "mat" for the front. For my grazer, we went with the larger bowl. I fill it daily and then he can access it when he wants without worrying about Mr. Pudge eating it all. Instructions were good, although I didn't use the first few pages, which are about connecting to a hub. Programming the cat's microchip was easy - you push a button and then drop some high value treats into the bowl. While your cat snacks, it registers their implanted microchip. Training was also simple, there are 4 modes that slowly put more of the lid over the bowl so your cat can get used to it moving. My boy was a little anxious the first time the lid moved but settled right in to eat. If your cat is very nervous, you can leave the training mode at any stage for as long as necessary. Now, hopefully, my chubby cat can lose some weight and make the vet proud at this next visit. ... show more

  • Great product, but save yourself the hassle, order from the manufacturer
Style: Connect Version
First, this is a GREAT product. They work so well that I have two of the Connect model and one non-connect that I want to upgrade to the Connect model. I used to have elderly cats, and now I have young cats with special needs, and these feeders give the vet so much information that helps us narrow down health care needs so much faster than if I didn't have very clear food-intake tracking for each pet. That's why I want to upgrade my third one in the first place! HOWEVER - if anyone is having trouble connecting it to the hub, and you bought it from Amazon - check that you do, in fact, have the Connect model. It'll say "connect" on the box, and there will be two little rows of round LED indicator lights plainly visible on the unit, just to the front of the food bowl area. If you don't see those rows of circles, then you don't have a Connect, and that's why it's not connecting. I ordered this on the Black Friday sale, which was the same price as the manufacturer's Black Friday price, but I chose to order from Amazon instead because I have the Amazon credit card, and was able to get 12 months no interest. Good deal, except that instead of the Connect model, Amazon sent me the cheaper non-Connect model that does not connect to the hub. I returned it, and they sent a different one - again, the cheaper model that doesn't connect to the hub. After talking to Customer Service, they've acknowledged that they have no ability to send me the correct product, and they have no way of doing a new purchase that honors the sale price I agreed to when I bought this unit. So now I have to pay $60 more for this product than what I could have paid, if I had known Amazon was playing a bait-and-switch game - and I'm going to order it from the manufacturer because they actually have a process to be sure you get what you paid for. If you want this, just go straight to the manufacturer, because they'll probably have the same sale and you'll actually receive the product you ordered, without any of this scammy "sell the expensive thing, ship the cheap thing, screw the customer out of the sale price" nonsense. ... show more
