Unfortunately, I can't use this without modifying it. It is not the seller's or manufacturer's fault. I originally got this for my parrots to jump around on and play/chew it. It is too high for them. So, I took it out to my chicken coop. They are used to perching and roosting at very high perches and well, this is too low for them. Give me a break! It's either too tall or too short!! No worries though, because I have a drill and can tailor it to my needs. It's a great quality of wood. I don't know what kind of wood it is, though. ... show more

My thoughts on the Vehomy Chicken Perch—it's a mixed bag. First, the material is pine wood, which is safe for chickens to peck and play on. The stability is ok as well, supposedly supporting up to 30lb without any wobbling. The size is smaller that expected, with two different height ladders for various chicken breeds. It serves well as a roosting spot for smaller breeds, allowing chickens to hop on step by step. It's like a jungle gym for them, promoting climbing and flying. However, there are some drawbacks. Firstly, the assembly wasn't smooth sailing. There were no instructions included, so I had to rely on the listing. Also, the photos on the listing are misleading; the perch is smaller in person than depicted, which was disappointing. Considering the price and the average quality of the wood, I have mixed feelings. It's a decent perch for chickens, but the frustrations with assembly and size make it hard to fully recommend. This is a simple build although no instructions came with it. I just pulled up the photo to be my guide. That worked out fine for me. The perch could fit multiple bantams, a couple standard sized hens or a bunch of flighty little ones. The materials are average in quality. The exact number of pieces of hardware came with it. Only time will tell how durable and how long it will last but right now my younger hens are having fun using it as a jungle gym.
