This guard rail is well made and sturdy. The strap [like a safety belt] wraps around the mattress and hooks to the underside bar that slides between the box springs and mattress. This protects the rail from flipping, along with feet touching the floor and protects the mattress from damage. I would have liked to see some instructions vs. just picture illustrations. Bought this for my 90 yr old mother who moves around with a walker. She's already had a few falls and had fallen out of bed once. The rail has straps that wrap around under the box spring and fasten it tightly so it remains stable and she can pull her whole weight against it. Also has a handy pocket for her Kleenex, a book, rosary... things she likes right next to the bed. It's adjustable height and the straps are adjustable so will fit pretty much any bed from a small twin up to a regular queen size (what mom has) - maybe even a king size. My elderly father is living with me and because the bedroom I set up for him isn’t the biggest we put a twin sized bed in there for him. I have been worried about him falling out so I purchased this rail in hopes it would make him safer. This was just what I needed. The feet give it extra support and it ties to the mattress. In my case the bed he uses doesn’t have box springs so we hooked it to the bed frame. It is very stable and he can also use it to help himself to sit up in bed and also to stand.
