  • If you have some kinds of chronic pain, this may really help you sleep properly!
Color: Mocha/Camel Size: Standard
I slept on the Avana Comfort System for the first time last night. I think this is a wonderful product and it is helping me get through a really difficult time. This is a shaggy dog story with a point, not just me whining. I am 69 years old, an overweight retired policeman, and I have been diagnosed as needing a right hip replacement due to osteo-arthritis. When I qualify for this surgery it will be my 4th replacement - I have been through a left hip and a double-knee surgery that were very successful. I did a lot of walking earlier this year after heart surgery. (There was no rehab program because of COVID.) The pain from the right hip got worse and finally wouldn't go away to the point that walking any distance is out. Then I experienced something I wouldn't wish on anyone else. It is called "referred pain." This is where due to the way the nerves are connected in the body, you have a trauma in one place but you feel it somewhere else. In my case it is acute pain below my right knee and in the shin area. I found multiple articles in reputable journals like the NIH that indicate there are many sufferers. But here is the problem: I can't sleep normally which for me was on my side. I have to have my legs elevated a bit, and often with an ice pack, to back the pain off at all, along with prescription medication. I should have had the surgery 6 months ago but there are new rules about weight and BMI. I have lost 31 pounds since September 19. I have also discovered that I am not alone in fighting the battle to reach a much lower weight to qualify for surgery. I was using an odd combination of available pillows to prop myself up and I have another large edge for my legs, but it is too high. Several hours of being elevated that way and I was almost worse off, except I did sleep along the way. I bought the Avana System because I was about at my wit's end. Admittedly, it does seem a bit expensive but it is very well designed and very well made. The cloth covers over the memory foam are very well stitched. They are comfortable, soft and attractive. More importantly, the system is easily adjusted and has several ways it can be reconfigured. Last night I used the knee elevation with the support setup to keep myself raised up. I was way more comfortable. This was just the right height of knee elevation to keep the referred lower leg pain at bay. My head, shoulder, and chest were comfortably, yet firmly supported. The memory foam is amazing. Here is the one warning I would give. It is also plainly stated on the instructions: DO NOT CUT the package open. If you unroll it and wait a little while, the memory foam will inflate. anyway, I really like this product and I hope this helps someone else. ... show more

  • Why did I wait so long?
Color: Mocha/Camel Size: Standard
The only negative thing is that I wished I had bought it months ago when I first saw it! I expected it to be delivered in a huge box and was surprised she. I saw a tall skinny box at my door. They compress the pillows for shipping so don't be alarmed by how squished and wrinkles they are when you first take them out...they pop up into shape in a few minutes. I have spondylolethesis and asq a result have undergone spinal fusion surgeries in both my lower back and neck, and I still have stability issues with other vertebra as well as degenerative disc disease. Sleeping (or rather lack of sleep) has been a huge issue for me as I can't get comfortable and would toss and turn all night long. I used multiple pillows and even giant U-shaped pillows to get comfortable only to wake up feeling stiff and sore and ending up with a bunch of pillows that got trashed and lost their shape and support. I'm only 49 years old and continuing with lack of sleep and feeling like crap every morning for several more decades (knock on wood) was not appealing to me. These pillows have changed all of that! I can arrange them various different ways to best fit my needs (even sleeping on my side). They are firm and offer great support without being hard, and don't lose their shape or integrity. And the coverage super soft and zip off so you can throw them in the wash as needed. I initially hesitated because of the cost, but I am happy I reconsidered and got them...worth every penny! I would highly recommend these pillows for anyone struggling to get comfortable while sleeping, or while binge watching your favorite show on Netflix. They also receivebrave reviews from my kitties who jump on them as soon as I get up! ... show more

  • so comfortable, so important to my day to day comfort
Color: Mocha/Camel Size: Standard
Several times, I've thought about writing a review for the Avana Orthopedic Support Pillow system. This product is so valuable, so comfortable,so important to my day to day comfort...I had to write. I've tried many similar products in the past, from a Select Comfort air mattress to various foam wedges and pillows to help me obtain comfortable resting and sleeping positions. I've got a significant orthopedic history, with surgeries in the past on my foot, knee, shoulder and neck the ideal support system must be adjustable, depending on the current problem. These are the nicest orthopedic pillows and wedges I've ever seen, and as a nurse, I've seen many in my 35 years of practice. The foam is a great density, soft but still supportive. It does not compress or flatten with use. The fabric is a great super soft suede look with zippers to remove for laundering, which I have not done yet. I spritzed a light mist of Scotch-gard when I got them, and they still look great with daily, heavy use. These four pieces can be arranged in a number of ways...whatever works for you! I realize it seems like a large amount of money, but you are going to tell, right out of the box, they are VERY well made. These pillows arrive packed in a fabric bag that you will never use again, at least you will never use them to hold the pillows again. If I had ANY criticism, it would be the color choice. It would be nice to have more color choices, but your neck and back will not care what color they are! Another bonus is my ability to now sleep comfortably when I travel !! This is a great product and I recommend it highly to others that have issues achieving comfort while sleeping! ... show more

  • Glad I got it.
Color: Mocha/Camel Size: Standard
I bought this orthopedic bed after comparing reviews with other similar “beds.” I had a breast reduction and lift 3 weeks ago and I can now say how I would change things around and how I ended up using it to make the most of it. The support is great though I wish it was a little softer and more conforming to my back. I had to put a really soft loose pillow to take off some of the pressure on my back. I didn’t use the headrest at all, at least not for my head, it was too hard and it hurt my neck. I used it as an arm rest and it worked out beautifully. Also it kept my husband on his side of the bed (lol). The leg rest was a tad to high and hard making the back of my knees sore after using it for a couple of days. I’m still using the “arm rest” and the curved part of the set. It really has been great overall. I suggest you buy ahead of time try it different ways to see how it would work for you. Also keep a couple of super soft, light support pillows handy and you’ll be able to rest and sleep comfortably. BTW yes it does help with pain relieve. I tried to sleep without it once after the second week of my post op and I couldn’t do it. That’s why I’m now only using the curved part of the set and the “arm rest.” I sleep so well with those that I’m not sure when I’ll stop using them. ... show more

  • Perfect for Doing Inclined Weight Exercises Too.
Color: Mocha/Camel Size: Standard
I have had this system for 7 years now. It is comfortable and functional. About a year ago I wanted to start doing inclined dumbbell exercises. I didn't want to buy a bench so I started using this system instead. It's perfectly suited to it. Much more comfortable than the bench back would be and the angle is infinitely adjustable. I also like the fact that sitting on the floor it is easier to lift and set down the weighs than it would be from a bench. It should be promoted for this purpose. ... show more

  • Almost good..... but much too firm and uncomfortable !
Color: Cooling Tencel Lyocell Size: Standard
I vacillated between 3 or 4 stars, but settled on 3, The design of the orthopedic pillow set appears excellent, but after readjusting them for hours, I still can’t identify a position that is comfortable enough for the entire night. I must agree with other reviewers who point out that the pillow set is very very firm.... in fact much too firm for me. If it were only a bit softer it would be much easier to find a comfortable position. . I’m not ready to send the pillows back... Partially because, as one reviewer commented, it would be virtually impossible at home to compress the pillows sufficiently to get them back into the original shipping box. I may make an effort to “fix” the pillows for my night time comfort. Perhaps it would be possible to line the large back support pillow with a softer layer of memory foam. Until then I’ll likely continue with a stack of pillows behind my back that is less elegant than the orthopedic set, but certainly more comfortable. ... show more

  • If you are having your shoulder replaced, this is a must buy item!
Color: Cooling Tencel Lyocell Size: X-Large
I had my one shoulder replaced late last summer. Since then, I've been sleeping on my back, in my recliner. I couldn't find a position in my bed that didn't cause enough discomfort that I could sleep. I used all sorts of pillows and even a large foam wedge. No matter what I tried, I couldn't sleep in the bed. In late March of this year, I read a blog by someone who had their shoulder replaced and they had the same problems sleeping in the bed. They tried this pillow system and immediately fell asleep on their bed. This blogger was brutally honest about getting one's shoulder replaced and the subsequent recovery. I wish I had found it before I had mine done. I would have been much better prepared for it. Based on the strength of their review in the blog and some other reviews I found of the Avana pillow system, I bought one. I am so glad I did! I have been sleeping comfortably in bed since it arrived. It is uncanny how much it feels like being in my recliner. You'll have to experiment with it to find the right angle to recline in bed, whether or not you comfortable with using the head pillow (I use regular bed pillow instead), and if you'll like the under knee pillow. The knee pillow is great if you're sitting in bed watching TV or reading. For me, the knee pillow was a little too high to sleep with comfortably. I use the head pillow as a knee pillow and am really happy. Don't try sleeping without the knee pillow. I did for a couple hours and then I tried the knee pillow . It was heavenly, once I figured out I could use the head pillow as a knee pillow! Had I found the Avana pillow system first, I would not have needed to buy my recliner. I could have been sleeping in bed from my first day at home, after getting out of the hospital My only minor quibble with the system is getting in and out of bed is not as easy as once was. However, it is well worth the effort! ... show more

  • Exactly what I was looking for! Excellent design for comfort and support!
Color: Grey/Charcoal Size: Standard
I'm extremely pleased with my purchase. Since I got this support system, I've been sleeping so much better. I suffer from obstructive sleep apnea but I don't use a C-Pap machine. Sleeping in an inclined position has improved my breathing greatly. I would also sometimes suffer from acid re-flux and again, sleeping in an inclined position has helped me with those symptoms. The multi piece system is brilliant. The base wedge sits in place and then you can place the curved incline on it and position it to get whatever level of incline that you desire. The lumbar support feels great on my back. I always used to use a pillow under my knees to help with lower pack pain. The included leg support works much better than a pillow and positions my legs perfectly to reduce lower back pain. The neck rest is a little too large for me so I haven't been using that. I use a neck pillow with this setup and it gives me the most comfortable sleeping position. I would highly recommend this system to anyone who would prefer to sleep in an inclined position without having to prop yourself up with pillows. My wife would literally need to sleep with 5 pillows so she can prop herself up properly. I just bought a second one of these systems to give to her for Christmas so she can enjoy it as well! ... show more
