I slept on the Avana Comfort System for the first time last night. I think this is a wonderful product and it is helping me get through a really difficult time. This is a shaggy dog story with a point, not just me whining. I am 69 years old, an overweight retired policeman, and I have been diagnosed as needing a right hip replacement due to osteo-arthritis. When I qualify for this surgery it will be my 4th replacement - I have been through a left hip and a double-knee surgery that were very successful. I did a lot of walking earlier this year after heart surgery. (There was no rehab program because of COVID.) The pain from the right hip got worse and finally wouldn't go away to the point that walking any distance is out. Then I experienced something I wouldn't wish on anyone else. It is called "referred pain." This is where due to the way the nerves are connected in the body, you have a trauma in one place but you feel it somewhere else. In my case it is acute pain below my right knee and in the shin area. I found multiple articles in reputable journals like the NIH that indicate there are many sufferers. But here is the problem: I can't sleep normally which for me was on my side. I have to have my legs elevated a bit, and often with an ice pack, to back the pain off at all, along with prescription medication. I should have had the surgery 6 months ago but there are new rules about weight and BMI. I have lost 31 pounds since September 19. I have also discovered that I am not alone in fighting the battle to reach a much lower weight to qualify for surgery. I was using an odd combination of available pillows to prop myself up and I have another large edge for my legs, but it is too high. Several hours of being elevated that way and I was almost worse off, except I did sleep along the way. I bought the Avana System because I was about at my wit's end. Admittedly, it does seem a bit expensive but it is very well designed and very well made. The cloth covers over the memory foam are very well stitched. They are comfortable, soft and attractive. More importantly, the system is easily adjusted and has several ways it can be reconfigured. Last night I used the knee elevation with the support setup to keep myself raised up. I was way more comfortable. This was just the right height of knee elevation to keep the referred lower leg pain at bay. My head, shoulder, and chest were comfortably, yet firmly supported. The memory foam is amazing. Here is the one warning I would give. It is also plainly stated on the instructions: DO NOT CUT the package open. If you unroll it and wait a little while, the memory foam will inflate. anyway, I really like this product and I hope this helps someone else. ... show more

So, I suffer from back and leg pain. I had been using three pillows around me to keep me elevated and to support my back. It was always uncomfortable and the pillows would shift. So I decided to invest in a wedge pillow. I came across this and saw that the reviews were good. I’m thankful I did. It is a solid pillow set and has not started to sink or diminish in strength, which I was worried about. It immediately took away the pressure in my back and legs. Remember to try to adjust it and try the different ways of positioning them if it’s uncomfortable. Once I found the correct position for my body, it felt awesome. My other concern were the few reviews that complained of the headrest pillow not expanding correctly. I did have that problem but, I decided to wet it under running water and hoped it would expand, and it did. Then I rung the water out of it and put it in the dryer. It did take awhile to dry on a low temp. I didn’t want to ruin it. After it was fully dry, it was fluffed out the way it should’ve been. The other pillows expanded just fine with some gentle molding with my hands. So, if you don’t mind working with it, it’s worth the small fuss. I have severe osteoarthritis in my knees and neck, degenerative disc disease with herniated discs in my neck and lower back, nerve impingement syndrome, bursitis in my shoulders and suffer from chronic daily migraines, reflux and severe asthma. Suffering from chronic pain and other health conditions, I continuously fidget, struggling to find a comfortable position. After receiving my Avana Kind Bed Support Pillow System yesterday, I slept better last night than I’ve slept in many years! I enjoy the flexibility this modular system offers, as I can move it from my sofa to my bed, easily adjusting the system to fit my body, providing the perfect amount support for lounging or sleep. I also appreciate that this support pillow system is covered with high quality fabrics, which blend nicely into my decor, unlike many other orthopedic support products on the market, which often have a more clinical appearance. I also like that the covers are easily removable are are machine washable, as well. The foam itself is wonderfully supportive, and is CertiPUR-US certified, so it is completely odor free and made according to the highest possible health and environmental standards, which gives me great peace of mind. This is a luxurious, well designed and beautifully made product, and I am so thankful to find some comfort at last!
