I slept on the Avana Comfort System for the first time last night. I think this is a wonderful product and it is helping me get through a really difficult time. This is a shaggy dog story with a point, not just me whining. I am 69 years old, an overweight retired policeman, and I have been diagnosed as needing a right hip replacement due to osteo-arthritis. When I qualify for this surgery it will be my 4th replacement - I have been through a left hip and a double-knee surgery that were very successful. I did a lot of walking earlier this year after heart surgery. (There was no rehab program because of COVID.) The pain from the right hip got worse and finally wouldn't go away to the point that walking any distance is out. Then I experienced something I wouldn't wish on anyone else. It is called "referred pain." This is where due to the way the nerves are connected in the body, you have a trauma in one place but you feel it somewhere else. In my case it is acute pain below my right knee and in the shin area. I found multiple articles in reputable journals like the NIH that indicate there are many sufferers. But here is the problem: I can't sleep normally which for me was on my side. I have to have my legs elevated a bit, and often with an ice pack, to back the pain off at all, along with prescription medication. I should have had the surgery 6 months ago but there are new rules about weight and BMI. I have lost 31 pounds since September 19. I have also discovered that I am not alone in fighting the battle to reach a much lower weight to qualify for surgery. I was using an odd combination of available pillows to prop myself up and I have another large edge for my legs, but it is too high. Several hours of being elevated that way and I was almost worse off, except I did sleep along the way. I bought the Avana System because I was about at my wit's end. Admittedly, it does seem a bit expensive but it is very well designed and very well made. The cloth covers over the memory foam are very well stitched. They are comfortable, soft and attractive. More importantly, the system is easily adjusted and has several ways it can be reconfigured. Last night I used the knee elevation with the support setup to keep myself raised up. I was way more comfortable. This was just the right height of knee elevation to keep the referred lower leg pain at bay. My head, shoulder, and chest were comfortably, yet firmly supported. The memory foam is amazing. Here is the one warning I would give. It is also plainly stated on the instructions: DO NOT CUT the package open. If you unroll it and wait a little while, the memory foam will inflate. anyway, I really like this product and I hope this helps someone else.

I'm extremely pleased with my purchase. Since I got this support system, I've been sleeping so much better. I suffer from obstructive sleep apnea but I don't use a C-Pap machine. Sleeping in an inclined position has improved my breathing greatly. I would also sometimes suffer from acid re-flux and again, sleeping in an inclined position has helped me with those symptoms. The multi piece system is brilliant. The base wedge sits in place and then you can place the curved incline on it and position it to get whatever level of incline that you desire. The lumbar support feels great on my back. I always used to use a pillow under my knees to help with lower pack pain. The included leg support works much better than a pillow and positions my legs perfectly to reduce lower back pain. The neck rest is a little too large for me so I haven't been using that. I use a neck pillow with this setup and it gives me the most comfortable sleeping position. I would highly recommend this system to anyone who would prefer to sleep in an inclined position without having to prop yourself up with pillows. My wife would literally need to sleep with 5 pillows so she can prop herself up properly. I just bought a second one of these systems to give to her for Christmas so she can enjoy it as well!

Several times, I've thought about writing a review for the Avana Orthopedic Support Pillow system.This product is so valuable, so comfortable,so important to my day to day comfort...I had to write. I've tried many similar products in the past, from a Select Comfort air mattress to various foam wedges and pillows to help me obtain comfortable resting and sleeping positions. I've got a significant orthopedic history, with surgeries in the past on my foot, knee, shoulder and neck the ideal support system must be adjustable, depending on the current problem. These are the nicest orthopedic pillows and wedges I've ever seen, and as a nurse, I've seen many in my 35 years of practice. The foam is a great density, soft but still supportive. It does not compress or flatten with use. The fabric is a great super soft suede look with zippers to remove for laundering, which I have not done yet. I spritzed a light mist of Scotch-gard when I got them, and they still look great with daily, heavy use. These four pieces can be arranged in a number of ways...whatever works for you! I realize it seems like a large amount of money, but you are going to tell, right out of the box, they are VERY well made. These pillows arrive packed in a fabric bag that you will never use again, at least you will never use them to hold the pillows again. If I had ANY criticism, it would be the color choice. It would be nice to have more color choices, but your neck and back will not care what color they are! Another bonus is my ability to now sleep comfortably when I travel !! This is a great product and I recommend it highly to others that have issues achieving comfort while sleeping!

I bought this orthopedic bed after comparing reviews with other similar “beds.” I had a breast reduction and lift 3 weeks ago and I can now say how I would change things around and how I ended up using it to make the most of it. The support is great though I wish it was a little softer and more conforming to my back. I had to put a really soft loose pillow to take off some of the pressure on my back. I didn’t use the headrest at all, at least not for my head, it was too hard and it hurt my neck. I used it as an arm rest and it worked out beautifully. Also it kept my husband on his side of the bed (lol). The leg rest was a tad to high and hard making the back of my knees sore after using it for a couple of days. I’m still using the “arm rest” and the curved part of the set. It really has been great overall. I suggest you buy ahead of time try it different ways to see how it would work for you. Also keep a couple of super soft, light support pillows handy and you’ll be able to rest and sleep comfortably. BTW yes it does help with pain relieve. I tried to sleep without it once after the second week of my post op and I couldn’t do it. That’s why I’m now only using the curved part of the set and the “arm rest.” I sleep so well with those that I’m not sure when I’ll stop using them.

This is perfect for my needs. Support on the firmer side with just a bit of surface cushiness. My old "pile of pillows" method always crumbled during the night, so I'd keep waking up in a too-flat position with GERD problems. No more! It's like having a favorite recliner in my bed. I appreciate how adjustable it is, yet it stays put where you leave it quite well. Also good for my mid-back pain due to moderate arthritis. User notes: 1) Make sure you try flipping the small lower part both ways. It looks square at first, but it actually has a different angle/slope each way, so that changes the way the large piece lays and where the lumbar support hits you. I finder longer side down on the bed is better for sleeping and longer side against the headboard better for sitting up. (The main Amazon photo shows longer side down on the bed.) 2) Try flipping the large comma-shaped piece too. I find one direction better for sitting up activity and other for sleeping. 3) The pillow bolster gives me mixed feelings, depending on whether I'm awake or sleeping. If I'm sitting very upright using a laptop I find it good. But I find the firmness that my back likes on the other parts of this system are less appreciated by my face for side sleeping on this bolster pillow. If the bolster doesn't suit you at certain angles it's easy to just use your own pillow instead. Also, if you want it to stay in place (I agree with other reviewers who say this part doesn't stay) then buy a yard of elastic and pin/sew it on each end to create your own strap. Easy. 4) Flipping the knee bolster around is intersting too. Try it. 5) For the perfect lumbar support, try sliding the main part up or down in about 6" increments. Each increment changes the experience, and your patience will likely be rewarded. I personally liked all of them, and the only problem was choosing one. 6) Here's a pleasant surprise: the label says its actually made in the USA! Overall this thing is a winner!

I was so hoping this would resolve the issues I've been having with my back since this plague came into our lives and shut everything down. Unfortunately, it is no substitute for an actual office chair. I have terrible lower back pain from an old injury and since March, I've been propping my pillows up against the headrest on my bed to support me while working from home. I live in a very popular area where rent is sky-high so I have a tiny amount of space to work with. This product came highly rated and while comfortable for lounging, it will not support your lower back for multiple hours. This pillow set is really well made out of foam with a bamboo cotton cover that you can zip off to clean. It looks exactly like it does in the photos. If I was working from my office and wanted to come home and watch a movie, this set-up would be awesome. Unfortunately, it's not stiff enough to really support you for long periods of time. I highly recommend this product if you are going to use it to read or watch tv. You can adjust it to suit your needs but it is exactly how they describe it...for lounging only. Would I buy it again...yes, if I wasn't isolated like the rest of the world and had a bit of extra bucks to spend; but if you hope to use this to support you while you work for 8 hours 5 days a week, ehhh not so much.

This product has been amazing for my use, which is for sitting up in bed to read or watch TV. It works much better for me than stacking up a couple of pillows, which always resulted in neck pain. I have a long-torso, so I was worried this product wouldn’t work for me as most seats and chairs with ergonomic design seem to hit me in the wrong places, which is why I prefer to sit up in bed rather than recline in a lounge chair or sofa (ouch). The adjustability of this system is the genius of it. I like that I can sit up very tall, or adjust it down and relax more. I don’t always use the neck pillow, depending on the angle, but when I do it works well, though maybe that part is a little firm. Other times I just put a soft pillow behind my head and it works better. I really like how firm this angled system is, so that my shoulder blades rest firmly against it and that relieves the tension and pressure on my neck. I had to experiment with this system for a while to figure out how to use it - at first I even put the angled cushion upside down because I thought it was a lumbar support, and it’s even demonstrated like that in one of the product pictures on their website. But I figured out how to adjust it to be supportive and use the leg pillow to help me from just slipping further down the bed. The material is nice and I like that it’s removable in case it needs washing. All in all, I love it and will buy another if it wears out, but I can anticipate it will last for years.

This set is so much nicer than my previous set of support pillows. I had purchased them from Relax The Back, and while they are exactly the same shape and feel, the covering on the previous set was quite inferior. It began to shed until it was transparent and then it developed holes all over and had to be thrown out. It was an expensive set of pillows, and I was very disappointed in how long the covering lasted. I washed it in cold water and never put it in the dryer, but it still fell apart much too soon in my opinion. When I opened the package for this set of pillows, I was extremely pleased to see the quality of the pillow covering. It is a nice thick soft material the I can tell is going to hold up for years to come, not fall apart in the washing machine. My favorite thing about these pillows is that I can set them in one way to sit up and watch Netflix online, then guide the back pillow down to a more reclined position to sleep. It still keeps me somewhat elevated and supports my spine perfectly. I am really happy with this set of pillows. I have read that there is a sheet set that one can purchase for these, but the reviews were not very good on them. I wonder if it is possible to just purchase another set of zip on covering to switch out while one set is in the wash. I will contact the manufacturer to find out. If not, I will undoubtedly end up creating my own set of washable sheets for these pillows because I use them every single night. I have chronic pain from a spinal surgery and I have had to train myself to sleep on my back with proper support. These pillows are perfect for anyone who needs to sleep on their back and requires that perfect alignment to reduce pain.
