  • As always with iron, season it first.
This pot has done a great job with my wood burning insert. The steam heat/humidity add to the overall warmth of our house. Keep in mind that you will need to check the water level every several hours along with giving it time to cool before adding more water to an empty pot to avoid cracking. The handle as expected is cool to the touch but keep in mind that it cast iron and will tend to rust on the inside. Definitely not for hot drinks but as stated, is designed as a steamer pot. I suppose with the proper seasoning etc this could be avoided, but other products are made that specifically address that issue in the first place. Last, I expect literally decades of use from this pot. ... show more

  • Before using do this!
Because of raw cast iron rusting issues with the first one I ever used for 6 years before the handle snapped. Get some automotive brake cleaner and give the inside of the kettle a very complete rinse off. Let it dry completely then using a spray can of high temp B-BQ paint " Black " coat the entire insides of the kettle, even the underside of the lid with at least 2 coats of paint, let it dry completely. Make sure to get inside the neck. let the top of kettle lid open to hasten drying time. Don't try to force drying, be patient. Painting will seal up the raw cast iron and keep the rust away, how good the rust staying away is depends on how good a job you did coating everything inside. ... show more

  • Use this for what it is supposed to be used for!
I received this product a week or so ago, and I am very satisfied with it. That is because I purchased it for the purpose it was made for. As a humidifying steamer pot for your wood stove top! Not as a teapot for brewing tea... So I don't really care if minerals deposit on the inside, or if it even rusts a little! Because it is serving the purpose it was designed for. I'm sure I might have even been able to avoid the rust if I decided to season it with some oil, but I had no intention of cooking anything in it... If you are looking for a teapot to brew tea in, I suggest you buy a teapot designed for that. Buy this one if you want to put it on your wood stove, and add a little moisture to the air. Besides, look at the price! It is one of the cheapest of it's kind out there, and it really has a lot of weight to it, which makes it nice and sturdy. Just saying... ... show more

  • Great quality, looks great
Kettle will be used once the wood stove is fired up to provide moisture (and aroma if you scent your water) within the family room. Heavy so you won't have to worry about it being knocked or tipped over. Previously used a copper kettle but like the looks of the cast iron too.

  • Rusts on the inside, contains toxic chemicals preventing it from being seasoned. Garbage!!!
DO NOT BUY THIS. First of all, it’s made in China, despite the deceptive name of the company. It’s not preseasoned or seasoned. The product enclosure had/had no reference to seasoning the kettle & now I know why! The first one I bought totally rusted (on the inside) after the first use. So, I exchanged it for another & thoroughly researched seasoning cast iron prior to use. When I received the replacement, I coated the inside with oil and put the kettle in the oven for an hour - with the intention of doing this a total of 3 times. However, the odor was SO TOXIC that we had to put the kettle outside overnight, air out the house & clean the oven! Idk what this manufacturer is putting in this kettle, but I can promise you it’s not pure cast iron & has some other undisclosed chemicals. I promptly returned the replacement & resumed searching for something suitable to add humidity when we have a fire in our wood burning stove. Allow me to save you some time…if you want to pay $200, there’s only one seasoned cast iron kettle made in the USA (this was my search criteria). I proceeded to use AI to assist me in my quest. What ensued was nothing short of an argument with Chat GPT. After entering my search criteria, it suggested 3 sites & provided links. I had already been to these sites, but went back to look more closely. After looking a second time, my original search was correct. None of these sites had a seasoned kettle made in the USA. So, I went back to Chat GPT & entered the my findings (or lack thereof). This is what it said, “Unfortunately, finding a USA-made, preseasoned cast iron kettle for a wood stove is proving very difficult. Since most cast iron kettles today are imported, your best alternative is either: 1. Buy an unseasoned cast iron kettle and season it yourself – This expands your options to include high-quality American-made cast iron. 2. Use a preseasoned Lodge Dutch oven or pot – Lodge (made in Tennessee) makes preseasoned cast iron cookware that can hold water for humidification.” As soon as my refund is processed, I will be finding a cast iron trivet & a small Dutch oven-type item with a lattice top, which releases more humidity into the air that one kettle hole ever could. Let me say though, many of the ones I found are coated with enamel- inside and/or out. Turns out many very expensive cookware items are cast iron coated in enamel (think Le Creuset), such as cookware from Sue Le Table, Williams Sonoma, etc. You’re welcome! ... show more

  • Did not last long
Lasted two winters on the wood stove. Rusted the first year and rotted the second.
