  • Works well
Using on my pellet stove...rusted up quick but serves the purpose of adding humidity to air while stove is on...no issues if it runs out of water as it is built well

  • Vogelzang TK-02 Fireplace Kettles, Cast Iron, 3 Quart Vogelzang
It, for me, it is as described, and great for it's intended purpose. -- It looks better than what we were using to keep the air moist. The only disadvantage, if one can call it that is, --be mindful that you need to be careful when filling it in your sink since will more easily chip a ceramic sink, of course is by nature *heavier than a cheap old pot, and make sure you fill with hot water if already hot or let it cool down prior to filling. We occasionally catch it at a cooler time, not yet boiled out moment, and carefully add more on the cooler stove. If it's a blazing hot stove, and dry, -- *think*, --carefully place it on a stone "hearth", wait a moment, chock down your fire, *then when cool, re-fill and replace it (if you need to be told that?). It seems for us, with the lid mostly open (to keep from "boiling" to easily) we get through a night with some water remaining. If it's a blazing hot stove, -- maybe 2 - 3 hours. Again, be careful. It's purpose, for us, is to decoratively keep the air "moister" than it might otherwise be with a very dehumidifying wood fire. We keep a fire going, mostly 24 x 7 x 7 at 45F or cooler with heat backup as needed. -- If it gets to be to much of a hassle, the old stainless steel 4-quart pot will be put back, --it didn't look that bad :-) ... show more

  • Before using do this!
Because of raw cast iron rusting issues with the first one I ever used for 6 years before the handle snapped. Get some automotive brake cleaner and give the inside of the kettle a very complete rinse off. Let it dry completely then using a spray can of high temp B-BQ paint " Black " coat the entire insides of the kettle, even the underside of the lid with at least 2 coats of paint, let it dry completely. Make sure to get inside the neck. let the top of kettle lid open to hasten drying time. Don't try to force drying, be patient. Painting will seal up the raw cast iron and keep the rust away, how good the rust staying away is depends on how good a job you did coating everything inside. ... show more

  • Heavy good looking kettle
Loved the look and solidness of this kettle. We use it on top of our woodburning stove at our lake house. After some use it became discolored and rusty around the top of the kettle. Not sure if this is normal but it doesn't look great anymore.

  • It is as advertised. Heavy duty.
Purchased to replace older, rusted version. Just as heavy duty & reasonably priced. Living in dry, (high desert type environment, air gets too dry. Add a fireplace and you've got serious dry air & dry sinuses. This will fix that. I use two heat fans with this kettle in-between filled 3/4 H2O on top of fireplace. Sooo much better! Fill before lighting fire. ... show more

  • Some like hot… Some like it cold… Some like it in the pot 9 days old…
Well if you survived the Oregon Trail this is the next step…I’m pretty sure Paul Bunyan order this exact one…

  • Nice on the outside, rusted out on the inside
This kettle looks nice, but the interior is not seasoned. So it rusted on the inside within two weeks. I won't be making tea with this kettle.

  • Use this for what it is supposed to be used for!
I received this product a week or so ago, and I am very satisfied with it. That is because I purchased it for the purpose it was made for. As a humidifying steamer pot for your wood stove top! Not as a teapot for brewing tea... So I don't really care if minerals deposit on the inside, or if it even rusts a little! Because it is serving the purpose it was designed for. I'm sure I might have even been able to avoid the rust if I decided to season it with some oil, but I had no intention of cooking anything in it... If you are looking for a teapot to brew tea in, I suggest you buy a teapot designed for that. Buy this one if you want to put it on your wood stove, and add a little moisture to the air. Besides, look at the price! It is one of the cheapest of it's kind out there, and it really has a lot of weight to it, which makes it nice and sturdy. Just saying... ... show more
