This handy portable roof rack by LASUK is a wonderful idea for those who need to transport large items on the roof of their car, but do not want a permanent rack installed. This system features: Dense fabric-covered foam protects both your cargo and car, extra long heavy-duty nylon straps designed to fit almost any car, and are designed to keep both the racks and your load secure, rubberized grips on the underside of each rack keep the rack from sliding on your car’s roof. Installation is easy, takes only a few minutes and requires no special tools: Simply place the foam racks on the roof of your car so that they are parallel to each other. Next, run the attached nylon straps through your car by pulling them through the opened windows and connecting them to your car’s ceiling handles. Next, place your load on top of the foam racks, taking care to center the weight across the center of the racks. Finally, use the provided load straps to secure the load to your car by placing them on top of your load and pulling each end through the opened windows and securing them to each other. Once you are done transporting, simply remove the foam racks and straps, and place them into the provided storage bag for future use. According to the manual, the rack system is capable of handling 60kg or 130+lbs depending on your car’s specs. The best part about this removable rack system is that you don’t have to worry about making permanent changes to your car. A permanent roof rack may require drilling into your car’s roof, and having a permanently attached roof rack can negatively impact your gas mileage and cause constant wind noise. With this inexpensive and lightweight removable system, these concerns are fully resolved. If you're planning on a lot of kayaking and want to use this setup regularly I'd recommend investing a bit more for something more solid and less floppy. Lots of plusses to this setup, it's quick and easy to mount and unmount and fairly universal. Quality is alright, price is great, and it's probably a bit quieter than a full roof rack setup. It's not quite as solid as I'd like overall, and it can scratch up your paint if it moves around too much, but in a pinch or once in a while it's a good option.

I wanted to toss a kayak on my 3-door Toyota Yaris, which is quite a feat considering the car is about the size of a jelly bean. These did a great job! It took me maybe 15 minutes to get them all strapped on tight and fitted and they held firmly in place while I took my little trip an hour out of the city. I then, in classic ADHD fashion, left the rack on my car for like a month even though that's definitely not their intended use and they still look fine so that's a great checkmark in the quality department.

I have a 4runner with a hard-core roof rack on it, but my wife and I have recently been swapping cars a lot so I've found myself wanting to head out for a water adventure on the island we live on, but unable to go because she had my vehicle. We live really close to the beach, less than half a mile, but I don't want to walk a half mile to the beach carrying a 10' 6" long SUP! Or surfboards, and definitely not one of our kayaks. My neighbors son was visiting from out of town and he mentioned "soft racks" to me when he borrowed our surf boards; I didn't even know there was such a thing. Lo and behold, I found this Lasuk Car Roof Rack for a steal (currently $40, well worth that amount if you have a use for it) and ordered it. The material quality seems pretty good. Any item such as this wouldn't last long in our salty air environment, but my intent is not to leave it mounted on the car, and I'll give it a good rinsing after every use. It's quick to set up, functional enough to carry anything I own around our 4 square mile island - but I don't think I would trust it on a cross-country road trip. Not for any specific reason that I don't trust this Lasuk product, but I'm used to very substantial roof racks and know far too well the forces of resistance hitting a board mounted on top of a vehicle for 100's of miles at 80 mph. This Lasuk is perfect for local, sub interstate travel in my mind. Others may prove me wrong and I hope so! The other thing I like about it is that it is super easy to take off when I'm done. So if I decide to go out installing it and packing it back into its handy carry bag barely adds any time at all to the excursion.

I don't need a roof rack often, and having a leased vehicle, did not want to spend a lot of money installing something permanent to only use 1-2x while I still have this car. Install is pretty easy, though it is not the type of rack you would leave on when not using. I like that it is soft- so I can use this despite having 2 sunroofs on the roof and not worrying about them harming or scratching the glass or the roof. Also, since the straps are run through the car, I wouldn't want to take a long trip at high speeds with this. I also am only using it (so far) for 2 paddleboards, which are really lightweight and work well with the pads, but am not sure how much weight these could handle, so you might need to consider how heavy your particular kayak/ boards are.
