  • A great budget Android tablet for daily use
I bought the UMIDIGI G2 Tab for $85 after a $10 coupon. It's a great buy for a budget Android tablet. It's a little on the heavy side, but the leather-like back case feels good in the hands without needing an add-on case (though the dual cameras protrude a little). The memory capacity is decent at 64 GB, and for an additional $8, I was able to add another 128 GB via microSD. There's no fingerprint or face unlock, so you're stuck with pattern, passcode, or nothing. The battery life is decent, the cameras are capable, and dual speakers sound decent. The screen does show fingerprints more than my iPad and Android phone, and the processor isn't super snappy. Also, the device wouldn't charge on my Chromebook charger, which I use for everything including my phone and Meta Quest VR device. For the price, it's an awesome budget Android tablet. Sure, my iPad might be a little faster and more refined, but it costs four times as much. I don't do any serious Android gaming, so the G2 Tablet checks all of the boxes for me (except face unlock). ... show more

  • Nice 10.1 Android Tablet overall with expandable storage (1 TB) & memory/RAM (up to 8GB)
I am not sure about the type of processors it uses and how fast is the clock cycle! However its running Android 13, has 64 GB of storage (can be expanded to 1 TB). They claim it has a quad processor and with a preset of 4GB of memory (RAM) BUT expandable to 8 GB. When I first unpacked it and checked, Android OS was up to date. So I decided to give it a try and see how it performs. After connecting to my home network Wi-Fi, I connected it to my Google Account and downloaded a few different browsers and APPs. I played with tablet’s settings and set it up with a simple wall-paper and APP icon presentation. Reading news papers online and surfing was a bit sluggish so I decided to reboot (cold boot…Power down completely) and try again. Not much difference. So my next step was to expand the memory. It is an easy process. Just go to “Settings”, “Memory & Expansion” and click “RAM Expand”. You’ll see options to expand its RAM by 1, 2 or 4 GB. I set mine up with 4 extra GBs, total of 8 GB. You are not adding a chip or triggering unused memory in this process. The OS is designed to use some of the storage space as RAM. For the changes to the memory to take effect, you have to restart the tablet. I went one step further and did a complete cold boot. Hold down the power button (top Left) until options appear. Select “shutdown”. Wait a minute and then restart. It will take a few minutes to re-configure and turn back on so be patient. That did the trick for me. Much faster response time and surfing and reading articles are not a hassle anymore. I also had another challenge finding a protective case for it! The main issue is the placement of the two camera lenses on the back and the buttons (power and volume up and down), on top Left hand corner. Most of universal cases have elastic rubber bands that hold the corners of the tablet, in place. But those elastic bands go over the power button on this tablet. I ended up ordering a universal case but only securing the tablet on three sides! With no kids around and only my wife and I using it, It is secure enough and I am not too worried. The last major observation are the speakers. They are adequate but not the loudest. If you really need it, just connect it to a Bluetooth external set and you’ll be in business. Anyway, it has a nice screen and I am using it daily surfacing, reading and playing some simple games. ... show more

  • Great low end tablet
I am a long time iPad user but wanted to get a feel for how Android tablets work. This is for both professional as well as personal reasons as I am a technology design engineer. My previous try of a non Apple tablet did not go well as my Fire died after 2 weeks. This tablet seemed like a low cost good risk for another attempt. And it has been a great experience. This is definitely a low end tablet both based on its cost and its specifications. Its performance is nothing special as it does have some hiccups with many games. But it does do a good job with web browsing, videos, and e-books. i am going to skip anything that might be more of a review of Android and try to stick to the device itself. The buttons on the unit were durable and functional if a bit too proud and lacking in any haptic feedback. The connectors were acceptable and well placed. The screen quality is a bit low but was more than acceptable for a low end unit. I am little concerned about battery life but part of that could be the load the software was placing on it. This unit has already outlived the Fire. And outperformed, if i am being honest. Its no match for my iPad but i could see it being a match for 20% of my iPad which is about what it cost. If you are getting started in tablet land or if you just need a cheap e-book reader, this is definitely a good (and inexpensive) choice. i am happy to have it. ... show more
