Description

Is reMarkable like a regular tablet computer? No, it is a purpose-built digital notebook for distraction-free handwriting, sketching, reading, and document markup. It deliberately lacks web browsers and apps by design to protect your focus. Can I read books on it, and is there an app store? There is no app store. You can read books, but it only supports DRM-free EPUB and PDF files. DRM-protected ebooks, such as those purchased from Kindle or Kobo, are not supported. Is it normal to see screen ghosting and muted colors? Yes, ghosting is completely normal for E-Ink displays and clears on refresh. Colors appear natural and muted because the screen physically moves coloured particles rather than using glowing pixels. Why does my reMarkable feel slower than a regular tablet? It feels slightly slower because the display physically moves particles through liquid, rather than switching pixels on and off. This takes a fraction of a second longer to protect the display's long-term health What system and handwriting languages are supported? System languages include English, German, French, and Spanish. I purchased the reMarkable Paper Pro about six months ago and waited to write a review in order to truly offer a long term perspective on its use. The reason I purchased the Paper Pro is because I am a doctoral student and prefer paper documents to digital. I found the pile of printed articles and written notes we’re accumulating to the point they were challenging to keep organized, so a friend showed me her Paper Pro. The moment I tried hers I knew it had potential to solve my paper problem without sacrificing the simplicity of hard copies that I really love. That potential turned into reality, for sure. I use my Paper Pro almost daily. Once I figured out how to make separate notebooks and folders, I was easily able to organize my written notes and PDF articles (which I live to annotate!). I use it for work and school. The weight of the stylus feels to me like writing with a pen, and I easily switch between writing and highlighting. I would add, if you’re looking for this notebook in terms of creating artwork, it might not be the best choice. The colors, while identifiable, are somewhat dull. Other than that, the display is great, clear, and aligns perfectly with where/how I write with the stylus. The tablet doesn’t connect to the internet (which is something I love about it) but I can easily upload PDF files from Google Drive with WiFi. I’ve had no issues uploading PDFs at all. As for battery life, a few hours of charging lasts me at least two days of battery. The fact that the screen will set to sleep after a certain amount of time helps as well. The stylus charges when attached to the tablet. So far, the stylus has not run out of battery. I guess the only small detail of this digital notebook I would find fault with is that the resetting screen takes a little time to get used to. I barely notice it now, but at first it was a little off-putting. Honestly, very minor. Sometimes, when it’s resetting, it takes a minute to respond to scrolling up and down a page. Again, minor, but might be annoying to some who are used to scrolling on a phone or computer screen. If you are like me and prefer paper over digital but are overwhelmed with piles of paper, this is an excellent choice. ... show more

I’ve been a business professional for 8 years and wish I bought this sooner! I had heard a podcaster talking about it and decided it was finally time. It is slender and light weight. The responsiveness is perfect. After you write in a different color it thinks for a moment- then voila! It’s just had you wanted it to be. Easy to write with and take long notes without using up paper. Plus it’s great to have the extra colors and highlighters for all my meetings. It stores the page where I can easily locate it. The battery lasts a long while too!! (Just know if you battery life runs out, it will appear that the screen is sleeping but you cannot turn it on… so plug it in and let it charge! But I’m pretty bad about making sure these are charged up because I’m using it so much… but an easy fix). ... show more

Life-changing device. So convenient for notetaking. Adding color took my Remarkable experience to a whole new level. The battery lasts forever, it weighs so much less than my iPad air, the screen is larger, and it FEELS LIKE PAPER. The back light is a game changer and causes no eye strain. Take the time to learn how to load Kindle books (it's not that hard and you own them - it's not illegal) and you can highlight and notate them. The tablet is thin but extremely well built. I never worry about breaking it. They've added quite a bit of functionality lately - the ability to upload screenshots from your phone, the ability to draw shapes that snap into perfection, sharing your notes instantly. The only drawback is that this device costs as much as an iPad that contains a ton of more tech. Keep in mind, however, iPads have always been sold for less than they are worth. Apple could never sell them for what they are worth, especially if they have to stop making them in China. They make their money on selling your data, and licensing accessories. I was initially satisfied with the product, but immediately after the 3 month warranty expired I started experiencing issues. When going from screen to screen, the tablet is supposed to flash to erase everything from the screen and then show the new screen, just like all e readers. Mine quit doing that, so everything just stays on the screen. Also the colors in my pro would fade to black in about 2-3 minutes. There is no number to call for customer service, just chat. After telling them my story, they asked for video. I took the video but then the chat had expired so I started talking to someone else. They kept telling me my problems were normal for all e readers. Once I convinced them that isn't true, they asked for the video and I sent it. They then have me go to another website and fill out a returns claim on my own, where I go through all the same info again. I had a question because the form was not straight forward at all, and of course, chat expired. I started talking to another agent, explained everything again, and they helped me get the return filed. Had to take more pictures and attach to the return. Then wait. Now, I got an email that I was denied because I didn't include a photo of the receipt (which they never asked for). I was directed to go back to the chat and start the process over. This might be a good product when it works, but mine failed very quickly and the customer service they have is the worst I have ever experienced. UPDATED Review: After less than a year, the tablet’s “ghosting” made continuous work impossible. I contacted the manufacturer and started the return process for product replacement, as it was covered under my warranty. It takes over two weeks, and now I find myself without an invaluable resource at the start of the fall semester of my PhD program. I’m removing a star because of this development. This tablet costs way too much money to have malfunctioned so fast and for the inconvenience of the replacement process. PREVIOUS REVIEW: I just started grad school, and the amount of reading was overwhelming because everything was digital! I’m a hardcore annotater, but I couldn’t print that many pages. This changed the game for me. I can organize my files into folders, highlight and annotate right on the pdf files, and take notes in class that I could transcribe later. As a result, I’m more prepared for and engaged in class discussions, and my papers are even better because I can easily find where I’d interacted with the text when I’m looking for citations. Best feature is its LACK of distractions. No apps calling for my attention. Like I said, game changer for students. Buy it. I know it’s expensive, but it’s worth it. ... show more

Handy tool for taking notes. The only problem I have was the COST & poor instructions on how to use. Most of the online videos don’t show you how to use efficiently. I do like the tool and its compact size. Other see it and don’t like you cant read books or watch movies. One other thing its not super bright. But exelent battery life. It is versatile in my profession. It’s durable easy to operate. An organization is simple. I enjoy the simplicity, but also the complexity of what it provides by organizing and structuring my notes for each task that I use in my profession.
