  • This is a great product especially if you live in a hotter region of the country This is a great product especially if you live in a hotter region of the country
I have a problem keeping cigars at 70 degrees since I am in Houston. It's just too hot to keep that temperature in my house consistent. In addition, I have always had problems trying to get to 70% humidity in my regular wooden humidor, always a big hassle trying to get it right. This 1.2 cubic feet product solved both issues and it cost about the same as regular humidors that I have purchased in the past. I am very impressed with it. I like a good cigar and especially Cuban cigars and I have 40 or 50 I brought back from Canada over the years as well as new ones I purchased in Canada at the duty free (great prices there) and really wanted to keep them in good shape. In the past, I actually even used a small wine fridge to keep them in previously to solve the temp problem but this product works so much better. So far it has kept humidity at 70% ever since I plugged it in. The temperature is always at 66 according to the digital read out and cannot go any higher than that and it will stop at 66 on the touch pad if you try to take it higher. I was always told to keep cigars at 70% humidity and at 70 degrees but I suppose 3 or 4 degrees temperature won't make much difference. I have my own digital humidity/thermometer in the humidor as well and its states the temp is 66.5 and humidity is 70%. It has been very consistent ever since I purchased the unit. This product uses the Peltier cooling system method, in other words you apply an electric charge to a heat sink and it dissipates the heat inside the unit and cools it down. There is no compressor or refrigerant involved in this product. Here are the steps I took once I received the unit: 1. Opened the box and set it up my shelf in my media room. It is longer/deeper then I anticipated, but not a big deal. You just have to make sure you leave enough inches from the wall to uptake the air, the intake is in the back. 2. Took a few minutes and wiped in the inside plastic off with vinegar (so no plastic smell) and seasoned the wood (wiped the cedar) with distilled water, but not too heavily, because you want the wood to not absorb the humidity in the humidor and this helps. 3. Put an extra cigar holder I bought off Amazon (Spanish Cedar Cigar Tray) in the bottom and placed the plastic water container that it comes with (filled it halfway with distilled water) on the same tray. Also placed a second cigar holder from my old humidor on the middle rack. The racks (other than the cigar drawer) have no sides and cigars can easily slip off when you slide them out. It came in handy to use the other cedar cigar holders. 4. Placed humidity beads(1/4 of the bag that was sent) that I got on Amazon (Cigar Humidor Humidity Beads - 1/2 lb Brand by Fuji Silysia) in a small glass bowl (after spritzing them with distilled water) and placed on the bottom tray next to the water holder. 5. This all took about 30 minutes and I then turned on the unit. Within one hour it was at the desired 70% humidity and 66.5 degrees. I then placed all my cigars in the unit. I also used small pieces of Velcro to place the addition humidity gauge that came with the unit on the middle shelf and did the same for a digital one on the bottom shelf, just for the heck of it, to see if the unit is consistent in temp and humidity in all areas and it is. (see attached picture) 6. Let the cigars season for 5-7 days before you smoke them assuming they were not properly kept. I noticed that all my cigars last much longer now in addition to burning more evenly and having a longer ash (see attached pictures). This product runs very quiet as well. I am very impressed with this glad not be dealing with my wooden humidor that was not made for hot environments. I really wish I had invested in this product sooner. Enjoy your cigars! 8 months later - Still running great. I did notice when I put a new box of cigars that were in a cedar box that it made the humidity drop for a few days. The box was absorbing the humidity and I should have rubbed it with distilled water. Also just a quick note to let you know that after you go through US customs (yes they have a US customs inspection in Montreal airport) they now have Cuban cigars sold in the duty free in Canada. I bought some Partagas and they had Romeo and Juliette's also. The lady told me they had a hard time keeping them in stock. I can tell you they cost 50% less then what they sold for in Montreal Cigar stores, about $9.00 US a stick for a box of Partagas Supers and no tax. I carried the two boxes with me on the plane in my carry on since their duty free is located after you go through US customs and I already had two boxes in my luggage I had purchased previously. Legally you can bring 100 sticks back with you or $800 worth but how do they know since duty free is after the inspection, anyway they don't care about that small stuff. 15 months later - Unfortunately, I noticed the humidity had dropped to 55% and the temperature of the unit stayed at 62 degrees. In particular, the heat fan in the back of the unit would not stop due to issue with the sensors on the control board. I also discovered that a number of customers had this problem as well. I called the Whynter support line and their higher level support responded via email within 48 hours. Apparently the control board (back of the unit) was not working and they told me I could purchase a new board for $27. I received the new board and took out the older one in the unit (took about ten minutes) and soldered the two wires on the board (took five minutes) and put it all back together (another ten minutes) all very easy to do, just need some general knowledge to do all this. The unit works fine now and to find the replacement part for the control board simply search for Ambient Stores re the web and order Sku# CHCWC-PCB-500. Call Whynter support if you want the complete docs on this topic. I elected not to purchase the heat sink, I mean not much can go wrong with a heat sink, the control board is the issue. You will need to unplug the the wires from the old board and place back on new board. The heat fan (external fan in back) two wires are solderer on the new board, upper right corner, red to plus sign, black to minus sign, fairly simple operation and much better than sending the unit off. I am baffled as to why they can't just solder a plug on the board to make it easy to replace the fan wires instead of making the customer solder the wires, maybe they make extra money when they do it. Usually would be miffed about this breakdown but I really think this product does a great job regardless. Aug 2019 - Have not had any issues with this product since I replaced the logic board, it is still working great. Also the humidity seems to last better as well. I hardly have to refill it as often as I used to do. My cigars are really holding their flavor and texture, I am very happy with this refridgedor. May 2020 - still working great. Jan 2020 - After 3 yrs the newer logic board finally stopped working again. Purchased another sensor board from Whynter for $30 on the Ambient site. You can also get a $25 warranty for five years now from Allstate that will cover any new purchases of the humidor so that is another way to go.and it replaces the cost of the humidor if it goes bad. May 2023 - I have two of these now and both working great although had to replace logic boards on one of them as I stated earlier. Two key items of note, do not push your cigars to the back of the humidor against the fan. When this happens the temp and humidity will fluctuate. Give some space back there between the cigars and the fan. Also make sure you unplug the device after any blackouts or brownouts, I notice temp always seems to goto 62 but I prefer 66. After a blackout unplug and plug back in, it resets it. ... show more

  • It met and exceeded my expectations, I absolutely love it
I debated whether to go with a traditional humidor or the high tech coolador humidor type for my new humidor, I had quit smoking cigarettes a few years ago and then stopped smoking my cigars too because I didn't want to take the chance they would make me want to start smoking cigarettes again, for a long time I fought and I tried to maintain the cigars at the perfect temp and humidity which wasn't easy here in Utah so I ended up storing them in zip locks in a cool dark environment with boveda packets and cedar strips, so now fast forward 4 years later and I can now have an occasional cigar without worry, so now I want to revive my 100 or so cigars and bring them out of retirement, I needed a new humidor because my wife kinda took possession of my old humidors so I needed something new. I decided to go with this model, there are cheaper models out there, some are more expensive but most weren't as nice as this one is, one thing I really wanted to make sure the new humidor had was good air circulation inside and this one has that, it also has an air tight seal which is something most traditional humidors lack, unless you want to spend a lot of money for a high end humidor. The humidor got here a day and a half after I ordered it, I had also ordered a case of boveda 69% packets, and had my wife pick up a gallon of distilled water so I could start setting it up and seasoning it, the package arrived on time and in perfect condition without any damage to the outer box which was a good sign, unboxing the humidor wasnt too hard but it was very well boxed and protected so it wasn't as easy as just popping open a box and pulling it out, I examined it to make sure there was no visable damage, it was in perfect shape, when I opened the door I was greeted with that great Spanish cedar aroma we all know and love, happily there was no smell of plastic at all, just that rich smell of Spanish cedar. I pulled open the drawer where I found the handle and accessory packet that had the handle screws and the manual as well as a second analog hygrometer which appears to be made of solid brass and glass with a stainless back, it was nice that they included a spare hygrometer, I also have a nice older brass and glass hygrometer that I've had for over 15 years and has always kept perfect readings even compared to digital hygrometers, I decided to start the calibration process on all three hygrometers while I sat up the humidor, after I put on the handle I sat it on the table my wife went and bought for it and then plugged it in, I filled the included water reservoir halfway and sat it in the drawer all the way to the back, I also popped in three large boveda 69% packets, one on each tray and the drawer and then I charged up several water pillows with distilled water and spread them throughout the humidor to speed up the seasoning process, all in all I spent maybe 20 to 30 minutes unboxing, and setting it up, filling the water reservoir, and putting in the boveda packets and water pillows. After four days the humidity was starting to level off in the mid 60's so I gave it one more day, on the fifth day I checked all 3 hygrometers and all were about the same reading, I had put one hygrometer on the top shelf, one on the bottom of the humidor, and the third in the hole on the front of the drawer, so that I could make sure the entire humidor was getting even humidification and it was, so now on the fifth day I started filling it with my cigars, I only had about 100 or so cigars to start off with but there's still plenty room for more so on payday I'll order in a couple more boxes and store them in the bottom of the humidor, I'll probably order a couple cigar samplers too, you can get some really good deals with samples and get to try new cigars to see if you like them, so I'll order more cigars next week to try and fill it up a bit more then it is now So far I am extremely happy with this humidor, it has a rich Spanish cedar smell which will add to the flavor of my cigars, I love that smell every time I open the door, and it. came with a spare hygrometer too so that I can place one in other areas of the humidor to make sure everything is getting humidified evenly, right now there's plenty room left for lots more cigars, as for humidification I'll probably just stick with boveda packets for now and then I'll also probably use the humidity beads in the water reservoir to keep it from being filled with liquid water, well the water is still liquid but it's held inside of the beads so it won't slosh around and spill or leak out onto my cigars and stuff because the beads keep the water inside and slowly release it to humidify the cigars so it's better then filling the reservoir with liquid water that can spill, anyway I would definitely highly recommend this humidor to anyone that has 300 cigars or less, that lives in an area that is hard to maintain your cigars in, Utah has dry sub zero snowy winters and 100+ Degree summers with high humidity, luckily spring and fall are milder but winter and summer are tough here The only thing I would change, or Will change is the trays have no lip or sides or anything so I ordered some 1/8"X1 1/2"x48" inch Spanish cedar strips and I'll put sides on the trays all the way around to keep cigars from rolling off when I pull them out, I mean they are nice as they are but honestly they weren't well thought out, I mean cigars are round, they roll when the surface isn't completely level, so the trays really need sides to keep the cigars from rolling off when I pull it out to get a cigar and who needs that? I don't, but other then that I wouldn't really change anything so I absolutely love this humidor and so does my wife, she wants it displayed so everyone can enjoy it too, and that's saying a lot because she used to make me store my cigars and cigar accessories in my hobby room or the family room but never in her formal living room, that's her area to display her antiques and the chairs aren't for sitting, they'd be uncomfortable anyway, they are 100 or more years old so I'm always afraid I'll break them or damage them somehow, anyway it's more of a display room not a room you sit in and watch tv so it's strange she wants it in there with her antiques and other collectible stuff, and as long as her dolls don't spark up my stogies in the middle of the night I'm cool with it...... but seriously this is a very nice humidor and I love it and hope it'll be of good use for many years to come BC ... show more

  • Enjoying my perfectly chilled and humidified cigars :) Enjoying my perfectly chilled and humidified cigars :)
Received the unit yesterday 9/11/2015 - Initial findings of the unit: Good- ~The temperature of the unit is accurate (I've noticed it can be up to 2* different but generally I found it to be spot on) ~Smells great ~Very quiet ~Built sturdy Bad- The handle gave us some issues - While this is very small (didn't change my 5 star rating) felt as if the handle design is poor. The light is tiny doesn't help at all :P General information that should be done if you purchase this unit (or any Humidor) !!!Season & prep the unit!!! ~ https://youtu.be/drh1uBC5AGI (If they remove the link check videos on how to season and prep a himidor) The wood is going to be very dry so it will require you to wipe it down with a wet sponge (Using distilled water and you can use a washcloth or paper towel). This will keep the wood from stealing the humidity and level the overall humidity. I would also recommend getting a hydrometer calibrating it (http://amzn.com/B000H6CZQE) so you can ensure you are at the right temp 9/13 - We have around 50 cigars in the cigar cooler now and that's growing everyday. We've had no issues with the temperature or humility. We've found placing a Broveda pack on each shelf keeps everything copacetic. We've wiped down the wood 4-6 times between two days and it doesn't seem like we are losing much humidity to the wood. My recommendation like mentioned above is to only wiped down the wood to slowly raise the humidity, once we noticed it was stabled we stopped and waited for the next day. If it was lower than expected we'd wipe it down again until that fluctuation was gone. Adding a bad: The hydrometer that comes with it is trash. Tried to calibrate it today and...well...didn't go well. Generally all analogs are so I am still not going to take it down a star. ~~~~Will update later~~~~ ... show more

  • You can't go wrong with this wineador!
Bought mine about two months ago and I've been extremely please with the unit's performance, construction, and build quality. I've placed it in my office, which is somewhat drafty ... temperature fluctuations were causing problems in my 150-count desktop humidor. Initial impressions: When the unit arrived, it looked like it had been dropped from 30,000 feet. The outer and inner packing boxes were dented and torn. The unit itself had a dent in the door. So I requested a replacement from Amazon. Two days later, a pristine unit arrived. So be aware of this. I removed and performaed a full seasoning of the cedar shelves and drawers using Boveda 84% humidity packets (four in a large storage tupperware) for 10 days -- as you would for a regular humidor. I also wiped the interior a number of times with distilled white vinegar and distilled water. This may be overkill, but I wanted to make sure no plastic smell was present. I also calibrated the analog hygrometer using salt and distilled water, even though I have two digital units. I'm also using 65% Heartfelt humidity beads in the container provided. I started adding cigars about 10 at a time over a week, to allow proper equilibration. I have two 25 count boxes, one 10 count box, and several dozen single. Two months after: The wineador is working wonderfully. I actually don't have it plugged in, as the temperature in the office is about what I want; I will plug it in in the spring and summer. The seal of the door is great. Humidity fluctuations are non-existent. I'm actually using weather station RH/Temp. sensors, as I'm an atmospheric scientist; they allow me to monitor remotely when I travel! I have a wireless switch that can turn the unit on, as I was away for a few weeks over the holidays. It really is a remarkable unit and it looks elegant and classy as well! 18-month update: It is now August 25th, 2016 ... almost 18 months after my initial review! The wineador is working flawlessly; I have had no problems. One thing to note. Make sure you clean the outside of the cooler, especially the back vents. Pet hair likes to collect here. I've added a wireless switch to the outlet and wireless temp./humidity sensor, too (accessible from my iPhone or Mac). If I ever travel for more than a week, I can monitor the readings inside and turn the unit on or off if needed. However, I have never had a problem with keeping the inside environment just right. I prefer 65F and 65% humidity. My house was built in 1929 and is quite drafty. The wineador has been a blessing. Cheers! ... show more

  • Really good cigar keeper
Overall, I'm very pleased with the Whynter cigar cooler. I spent $25 on 1/2lb of Heartfelt 70% beads (purchased direct from them as they weren't available via Amazon at the time). Unit keeps perfect 70% humidity and has even restored life to some of my older stock which had dried a bit. I'd be all in for a 5 star rating if not for a few relatively minor cons. Pros: 1) Unit is very quiet and well made 2) Packaging was stout and very robust 3) Setup & seasoning was easy (be sure to used distilled water!) 4) Responsive and helpful customer service from Whynter! Cons: 1) I doubt I could fit 250 cigars in there (even if I didn't keep pipe tobacco on the lower level) 2) The internal LED light is a cobalt blue color and is pretty much useless. Even if it were more of a white color (which would be better), it would have difficulty illuminating the entire inside of the fridge as it's a single light at the top and is immediately blocked by whatever is on the top shelf including the shelf itself. A better solution would be a row of LEDs down the front sides directed in toward the back of the fridge. 3) A lock would be a great addition 4) The hydrometer that came with the unit was not able to be calibrated per the instructions (no screw in the back). I had to reach out to customer service for a replacement which they provided promptly. ... show more

  • This humidoe only last about 6 months This humidoe only last about 6 months
New review 7/30/2018 This malfunctioned about 6 months ago I got it back working by reading the instructions now it’s not working at all. This was purchased 2 years and not it’s not working at all. I didn’t purchase this for it to go out in a year and a half. After I would say 7 months it didn’t get up to the required temperature. I had 200 cigars that are no good. They are cracked and hard. I retract my review below because it didn’t last And destroyed my cigars. I had Cubans that are no good. this Humidor make me feel like the ultimate cigar smoker. This came on time as stated on the site. It's very roomy and I was able to get two boxes, about 20 cigars on the shelf and about 10 in the drawer. I also purchased humidity beads and placed them in the cup in the drawer for added protection. The light is just enough to see when all the lights are turned off. The light is blue so it looks pretty cool in the dark. You take it out the box plug it up screw the handle on and it's ready to use. No maintenance at all. Just wipe the glass and it will do the rest. You don't have to set it because it programs itself. It also has two cigar hygrometer. The stainless steel and wood go together and give it a chic look. This was priced very reasonable. It sits on my table. It's not small. It's long so you will need a wide enough table where it is not hanging off. You want it out so people can see it because it's definitely an eye catcher. This is a great product and I recommend the wife or girlfriend to purchase this for the man who loves cigars or the wife and girlfriend that love cigars. Great gift for Christmas, father's day etc. ... show more

  • Perfect for long term storing and even aging of high end cigars. Perfect for long term storing and even aging of high end cigars.
I just received this yesterday and figured I'd provide my experience as I go as to keep it as accurate as possible. Packaging was great. They had the unit surrounded by Styrofoam then boxed in its manufacturing box. That box was again surrounded in Styrofoam and placed in a secondary larger box. They meticulously taped the door shut as to not open during unwrapping. Inside the cooler, in the sliding drawer, I found the owners manual, door handle, hardware to install handle, how to guide for using the cooler, and even a second hydrometer. Setup was easy. Literally took it out of the box, used the supplied screws and washers to attach the handle, poured the distilled water into the plastic tray they supply, and am currently letting it season. I have not checked the calibration yet of the hydrometer that it came with but will update when I do. Temperature control seems to be spot on. It tells you what the temp is inside passively. When it first was turned on it was around 73 degrees inside and on the display. I turned the system down to 63 degrees (based on the parchment you get with cigars that states the optimal cigar temperature). It quickly flashed back to show 73 degrees but soon started to work its way down to the setting I had selected. Humidity supply - I'm currently still debating on either Boveda bags or Xikar crystals. The purpose for me spending the money on a temperature controlled unit was to have a set-it and leave-it set up which requires a 2-way humidity system that both can produce. Since my main goal will be aging of my high end Cuban cigars I don't want an active humidifier (I.e. oasis type) as they tend to place water vapor into the air vs allowing the air to become humid passively. Over the long term aging is best done passively. **UPDATE** It's been 5 days since I plugged this unit in and began seasoning the humidor. I allowed the seasoning process 4 days to ensure the cedar absorbed the proper amount of moisture. During the seasoning it reached 80% RH. Before placing any cigars in, on day 4 I placed in two 4 oz. jars of Xikar crystal humidifiers rated at 70% RH. It took about half a day for the RH to lower and that's when I placed my two boxes holding about 35 cigars inside. After the first night I'm holding perfect at 70% RH! Pictures provided: first is right out of the box. Second is after plugged in first day. Third and fourth are of today (day 2). I will wait 4 days before opening again to allow the cedar to fully season. **please note that other reviews have shown that the drawer is not as pictured. However mine is exactly as pictured. If yours is not I'd send it back as perhaps it's built wrong.** **UPDATE** new photos: #5 - day 3 of seasoning at 80%RH. #6 - day 4 placing two 4 oz. jars of Xikar humidifiers in. #7 day 5 at 70% RH loaded with two boxes (approx. 35 cigars). #8 day 5 complete setup 70% RH @ 64 degrees. **UPDATE** It's now October 6th and the humidity hasn't changed one bit. I've opened this thing up about 10 times for adding more cigars and taking some out and zero change in humidity! Temp is holding great at 64º with only a few times I've walked by and found it displaying 66º, and one time 63º. It adjusted itself with in a few minutes and I'm totally fine with a degree or two fluctuation. Cigars that come out of this unit smoke BEAUTIFULLY. P.s. if you read the whole review thank you for your time. Such an investment I really wanted a detailed review for others. ... show more

  • When it works, it works great.
For about 2 years, this unit worked flawlessly. It kept temp right around 64-66 degrees (with a setting of 66 degrees). It's very humid where i live, so I often did not need to use the water tray to humidify. It held 68-70 % humidity on it's own. Then it failed. It began cooling down to 55 degrees and dried out to 40% humidity no matter the room humidity or if the water tray (or other humidifiers were used or not). I contacted the Whynter support and based on the response, made a logical assumption that their support was not going to know how to help me. After another year, I contacted them again. Same. (They asked me to send them a picture of the unit after they failed to read my email that relayed all of my troubleshooting steps.) I spent a fair amount of time troubleshooting this. With no diagrams to review, I just studied the controller and operation. The appearances were that the fans were not slowing enough when temp was reached. They always run, but 1 or both were running too high of speed. They speed up and slow down as needed when the temp setting is changed. The voltage varies between ~6 and ~12 volts, but it seemed too much when the temp was reached, causing the unit to continue to cool beyond the setting. That's my best guess. The control board is not available to buy to replace the one in mine and that is the only thing that, in my assessment could fail. I noticed that there are 3 fan ports (2 pin connectors for the 2 fans). 1 is color coded red and the red end plug wire was connected to that. I moved the other fan wire from port to port of the remaining ports. No change. I moved the red-plug fan wire to the other port (marked for the other fan). For whatever reason, it works flawlessly now. The fan port on the board, which is color-coded red, for whatever reason, lost it's mind. I have no way of knowing why or why my relocating that fan to the other fan's spare port worked, but it works perfectly now. I'm not suggesting that you do this, of course, I'm just relaying what fixed my frig. Of course, if you don't know electricity, you should never open the case of any electronic device.. ................ If your unit is too humid with the water tray, move the water tray closer to the door or to the top shelf, that raised my humidity up a couple of points to the correct amount. If you are really too humid, remove the tray altogether for a while. The inverse is also true,if you are a bit dry, move the water tray closer to the fan (and maybe try the floor level where it gets good air flow. When this thing works, it's great; constant temp and humidity. The blue light is pretty cool too. ... show more
