I have been dying my hair on my own for a while but could never get the color to take on my black/dark brown curly hair. So after watching some YouTube videos I decided to be brave and try this out. I was super nervous but finally took the plunge and did not regret it! I used developer 20 with the charcoal clay and applied it to my hair in certain sections throughout my entire head. I was surprised how fast I began to see the color change! I left it on for any 15-20 mins, constantly watching the change until I was satisfied. It came out a little more orange than I wanted, but I dyed it a reddish color and got exactly what was looking for, the red color took to the orange and not just to my roots as before. My lovely curls are still intact also, I make sure to use a deep conditioner whenever It’s wash day! Even as the red is washing out I still love the orange color. I get so many compliments, especially from peeps who only knew me with dark hair! It was definitely worth it! 💜 ... show more

I’d say this product is high quality and gentle BUT I want to warn others about a very important detail I don’t see anyone else mentioning - it’s DARK colored clay - so if you’re using this to do your own highlights it’s next to impossible to clearly see what you’re doing - I realized about halfway through that because it’s dark colored I couldn’t see clearly which areas I’d covered yet or not and completely couldn’t tell saturation. It’s a nice product because it gave a nice lift and my hair felt good afterwards BUT I ended up with patches because I hadn’t covered areas and/or my saturation was off and i’m attributing it up to the dark color because when I use bleach my hair turns out great and so can clearly see when I have my hair saturated or covered if they changed it to white i’d purchase again in a heartbeat but i’d never use this again because of the dark color ... show more
