Size: Concert Size 23 Inch Color: Acoustic
This little Aklot packs a punch! Didn’t take long to stretch the strings and keep in tune. Maybe a week with moderate playing each day. Amazing construction and the bird accents provide a unique look. Truly a great price for a beginner or a pro. Don’t event think twice. Buy it. You won’t be disappointed. ... show more

  • Fantastic ukulele for the price!
Size: Concert Color: Bamboo
I am a somewhat seasoned uke player, in that I have been playing for the past couple years. I started in 2018 with a Kmise zebra wood concert instrument that I purchased on a whim. I was pleasantly surprised at how nice the uke was, both in play ability and construction. Fast forward to today, and I now have six ukuleles, including a Ubass. UAS syndrome? Perhaps... :) I bought the Aklot Bamboo ukulele for a couple reasons. First off, it has a unique look to it, which I like. I also have a Enya Nova, and a Risa Stick uke, so I really like ukes that are unique. Second, Aklot is part of Kmise...or maybe Kimse is part of Aklot, not sure, but anyways, I really like the zebra wood concert Kimise, so I felt like I would not be disappointed. And, I was not! I did do some research, and by far the biggest complaint about this uke was the "Designed by Aklot" engraving on the body. I am very happy to say that it looks like Aklot have listened, and this one did not have any engraving! It's always nice when companies listen to their customers, and sadly a lot of them do not, so kudos to Aklot/Kmise! The other complaints that I do agree with are very minor. I feel that the strap buttons should be black or gold, so as to match the tuners, and the inlay dots should be black, as the white kinda gets lost in the paleness of the bamboo neck. Speaking of bamboo, everything here is made of it. The body, bridge, neck, fretboard, and headstock are all bamboo, and I have to say, it looks great. The finish is of the matte type and is pretty much flawless to my hands. I also cannot find any flaws with the construction. Everything fits well, and from what I can see, the internal bracing is very tidy, with no glue seepage. Speaking of internal, I really like the wood badge that would normally be paper. Very cool little addition! I want to say that the top is a sold piece of bamboo...which it is, but also isn't. It is one layer of bamboo, but is made of bamboo strips, like a cutting board. I believe the back and sides are of this "one layer" construction as well. Far as the neck goes, I cannot feel any sharp frets, and the action seems to be just about right. Tuners are a open geared type, are very smooth. Again, I just wish the strap buttons matched these, but that is an easy fix. How does it sound? Well, very good, although different from wood. I can't really explain it, but it is a different sound, which I think is a good thing. Being a plant, bamboo is certainly going to have different characteristics than wood, so I can see where the sound would be affected. Also, bamboo is supposedly much more resistant to shrinkage, so this might make for a good travel uke. Accessories it comes with include a tuner (which works well), strap, picks, and a very nice gig bag. The picks...are guitar picks, and not sure why they are included, but they are. Felt picks would be welcome, but no biggie. The strap is nice in that it is an actual ukulele strap, and not a wide guitar strap. I also love the gigbag, which is a nice grey color, and is very well padded. However, mine has "Kmise" on the front instead of Aklot. Overall, this is a very nice ukulele for your money. I'd recommend it for a beginner, as it is easy to play, or for anyone who wants to have something different in their ukulele collection. And also, I'm tired of all the "Made in China" bashing. Yes, some crap stuff comes out of China, but also some crap stuff comes out of the US, or anywhere for that matter. There is good and bad stuff everywhere, but from my experience, Kmise/Aklot ukes are squarely in the good category, if not great! Keep calm and play ukulele folks! ... show more

  • Well worth the extra $10 compared to some cheaper models.
Size: Soprano Color: Mahogany
As a newb, I was having a hard time choosing and understanding the reviews from around the interwebs. Now that I have bought an Aklot for my daughter (because of the "solid top") and a Donner for myself (because of the low price for an often-recommended uke), I understand. Knowing all the reviews and prices I looked at over time, I would choose this Aklot again 10/10. The extra $10 for this kit is worth it for a single player / beginner who is serious about learning uke. The bag is padded and fitted, not just a drawstring bag. The uke has strap nubs ; you don't have to figure out how to hook the strap into the instrument. The construction is good, for example this Aklot nut is flat and flush while the Donner is angled and doesn't seem quite right. This Aklot has a "solid top" and when you hold and play it for a week or two, you can tell the difference. It feels lighter than the Donner, yet gives a sense of better construction, sound, and craftsmanship. For example, when you play a C chord, the high C on the A string is audible on this Aklot, but not nearly as much on the Donner. I don't think it sounds tinny, rather I consider it a fuller richer sound. The directions and booklets are a little more quality too ; not so rough on translation. Frankly, I'm kind of surprised you can get all this for such a good price. One thing neither instrument mentioned is tuning. For this Aklot, the G string took about a full day to tune. You would tune it, in about 5-10 minutes it would 'sag' out of tune, try again, etc. I think it just takes some time to 'settle in' and stabilize, but once it does, it stays well and sounds great. If you read this far, use the Uc setting on the tuner, for Ukelele (it's hard to understand that / find that in the tuner instruction manual). ... show more

Since AKLOT is a California company, I was under the impression that it was made in America. That was one of the reasons I chose this brand. For the price, I guess I should know better. I think Amazon should start making country of origin available on all of their products. I'm disappointed that they don't. ... show more
