    • Has Some Flaws Compared to More Expensive Pans, But Overall.....A Good Value!

I am a huge fan of cooking with Cast Iron. I have many old Erie and Griswold pieces and I use them every day. Recently, I bought a couple of pieces of high end non-stick cookware to cook acid foods in (foods with lots of tomatoes, citrus, ect) and was disappointed. I have a HUGE 13 quart Le Creuset Dutch Oven that has done me well over the last 20+ years, so I looked into a Le Creuset pan. They are $250!!! Seeing the reviews on this, and a price tag of a mere $38, I decided to give it a try. The item came packed well and it is an attractive skillet. My biggest gripe is the weight. THIS THING IS FREAKING HEAVY! It weighs significantly more than any other piece that I have. Because it is heavy, it takes a long, long time to heat up. But, once it's heated, it retains heat evenly and for a long time. The textured enamel on the inside makes it a little more difficult to clean than my Le Creuset pieces. I've taken to using a plastic brush to get the big stuff off and then, drizzling some heavy Kosher Salt and Olive Oil inside and scrubbing the stains off with that. I don't know how that will affect the enamel over a long period of time, but it's a $38 pan. I'll take my chances. Fit and finish are good. The handle on the lid is attractive and sturdy. When it comes down to it, my only complaints are those I have when I compare it to my Le Creuset - but this pan is 1/5th the cost of a similar one of those. All things considered - especially the price - I'm happy. Knowing what I know now - I would buy this again. ... show more

I am a big fan of porcelain-clad cast iron and I wanted something with more capacity than my 10" skillet. This does the job nicely and at a reasonable price considering that there are others this size on the market for over $200. which don't include a lid. Beautiful pan, high quality. I clean it with water while it’s still pretty hot (using silicone handle covers to hold it, I scrap then scrub with green pad). I heat it for 1/2 hour after wiping it out with a dish towel and then just leave it on the burner.

This is my second pan, after our last one had a failure in the enamel about 5 months ago after two years of use. The new one looked good initially, but we saw today that the lid has several spots where there is no enamel, and rust has gotten it.
