  • Great value, especially for e-check county vehicle owners!
I love this thing; this is actually the third one I've bought, after gifting one to my partner, my adult son, and my father. We live in a county that does emissions testing, and a check engine light is an automatic fail. We used to have to rush to AutoZone in a panic if it was an e-check renewal year and the light came on, just to figure out what was going on. They always read the code for free, but it still meant a trip to the store and possibly a tow, depending on your situation. The best thing about this scanner is that I can check all that from home, or if you prefer, on the road because it's lightweight and portable. My partner and son both have a few project cars and enjoy shopping for them, so this gets a lot of use. They take it with them when they're checking out cars on Marketplace or a for-sale-by-owner listing to get an idea of what, if any, issues a car might have. It's supposed to work with US cars post-'96, EU cars post-2000, and Asian cars post-2005 (basically most cars made in the last 20 years). We haven't run into any outliers yet, but tbf, expensive foreign sports cars aren't really in our budget, so ymmv. The battery clips are easy to attach, the cable is a good length, and the screen is bright and bold and easy to read in a garage, and still clear enough to read in bright sunlight if you cover the screen with your hand for shade. The interface is simple to use; it will walk you through a set of prompts for each setting. It does a lot: engine codes, battery health, alternator, starter, and other electrical systems. The I/M readiness check is handy before emissions tests, and the live data makes it easier to pinpoint problems. It's saved us time and money by letting us figure things out at home instead of paying for a tow or dealership visit; it's definitely paid for itself. As i mentioned before, I actually own several TopDiag scanners at this point (a few different OBD2/auto models, and a couple for motorcycles. They've all been solid in terms of both durability and longevity. Even the oldest ones are still going strong because the software updates keep them from becoming obsolete. I'd recommend it to anyone who works on their own cars or lives in a county that does emissions tests. If the only thing I'd ever used it for was emissions testing/eChecks, it would still have paid for itself many times over by now. For anyone who wants to take care of easy fixes, its real value lies in the amount of money it will save you. ... show more

  • Look elsewhere for a code reader
The media could not be loaded. I'm shocked this is getting 5 star reviews. It did not connect to my 2005 Chevy truck or my 2002 GMC. The description states it connects to 99% of vehicles, which is not true. As far as the battery tester part goes, I don't think I would trust a tester that shows 179 more CCA than the battery is rated for. The battery is brand new and freshly charged. I chose the AGM flat, which it is, in my Polaris Ranger. Tested it and as you can see in the pictures, it showed 579 CCA in a battery that at full charge is only rated for 400 CCA. I know battery manufacturers under rate their batteries for CCA, but this is way above the margin for that. So even if it works for testing batteries, it doesn't work for OBD2/CAN as it states. You can get a dedicated battery tester cheaper. ... show more

  • 2 tools in one that can add early diagnosis and/or confirm mechanic's diagnosis
This small handheld red device combines two useful automotive tools into one, giving you both engine code reading and battery system evaluation. It’s convenient for anyone who wants to understand basic vehicle issues without relying immediately on a repair shop. The scanner quickly identifies engine‑related alerts and provides explanations of the codes it finds. The ability to view real‑time data and stored snapshots makes it easier to understand what might be causing a warning light. Its battery‑testing functions give detailed information about overall battery condition, starting performance, and charging output. It helps pinpoint whether a problem is coming from the battery, starter, or alternator, which can prevent unnecessary part replacements. The unit works with a wide range of vehicles and starts up as soon as it’s plugged into the diagnostic port. The interface has multilingual options make it accessible for different users. An emissions‑readiness feature is helpful for preparing a vehicle before a smog check, reducing the chance of needing a retest. The display has the ability to graph data and make the information easy to interpret for beginners. This code reader and battery tester tool offers solid value by combining multiple diagnostic functions into one device. It’s a practical choice for DIY car owners who want a reliable way to monitor their vehicle’s condition and address common issues at home. ... show more

  • One Tool, Total Peace of Mind!
This 2-in-1 diagnostic tool is a total win! My husband absolutely loves it and says it works great. Being able to read and clear check engine codes and test battery health, starter, and charging system all in one device is incredibly convenient. It’s easy to use, gives detailed information, and really helps take the guesswork out of car issues. Instead of needing multiple tools, this does it all, saving both time and money. He was especially impressed with the quality for the price and said it’s a fantastic value. If you want a reliable, all in one car diagnostic tool, this is definitely it. Highly recommend! ... show more
