  • Way better than the name brand options!

**SHORT REVIEW** 2 of these Racks will fit on 53" Thule Wingbar Evos. We used them to carry 2 XL Malibu ocean Kayaks on top of a 2021 Kia Sorento. Super solid build quality. Easy assembly and loading. Price is unbeatable. **It did require us to get longer bolts to fit the wingbar evos with the rubber wind gaskets installed. We used m6x10 rather than the m6x8 that are included. **Extended Review** This is our first camping trip since Covid hit and we decided we wanted to get our own Kayak racks rather than borrowing my grandparents Suburban and Rack. We were wanting something that made it easier to put up and down and almost went with the Hullivators from Thule but felt that they weren’t a very sturdy looking design. My Dad happened to find these racks and we both fell in love with them.

We were originally going to mount them on my parents 2018 Yukon but discovered that it won’t work on their car because the way their crossbars mount they are at fixed points rather than adjustable placement. **THIS RACK REQUIRES ADJUSTABLE CROSSBAR PLACEMENT** Seeing as my 2021 Sorento has adjustable crossbars I volunteered. We have two Kayaks however and weren’t sure how wide of a bar I was going to need to make two of these mounts fit. We saw that they overhang the ends of the crossbars quite a bit and decided to gamble on a 53” bar. They fit perfectly up there with a few inches of play on all sides.

The build quality of this thing is superb. We are machinists by trade and know when corners have been cut. This thing looks and feels amazing. The bolts all of some pre-applied lock tight to keep everything from rattling loose. Though the included hex wrench is pretty cheap quality.

Now to get the base to mount onto our Thule Wingbar Evos with the T-slot we did have to grab slightly longer bolts to make this work. The rubber wind strip on the crossbars made it just slightly too tall to slide it on. All our local Home Depots were out of stock of the bolts we were wanting but thankfully we have a machine shop and raided the bolt department. M6x10 Bolts are the perfect fit. Those couple extra threads made all the difference and we were able to slide the base on with ease.

The top section of the rack then slides into the base and locks in.

You may need to loosen your crossbars to get the spacing right as when we first threw the rack up there one of them slid with ease while the other was catching. We loosened the crossbars and wiggled the placement around until both were sliding easily.

THIS THING DOES TAKE A TON OF EFFORT TO GET DOWN WHEN THERE IS NO KAYAK MOUNTED. You’re fighting the shocks that help make the kayak go up easily, so without that extra weight it can be a bit difficult.

When needing to raise it back up without anything mounted on it I found it helps to drape myself over the end of it while I push down and release the locks. It seems the release point it lower and if there isn’t any weight on it you can’t move the release locks.

There aren’t any locks to prevent theft but they would need to know how to remove the top sliding portion in order to get to the lower mounting bolts. I don’t think it’ll really be an issue. Though we have removed the top sliding section for the past week leading up to our camping trip and left the bases mounted up there.

My parents went up to grab the kayaks from our family cabin and gave the racks their maiden voyage back home. First time mounting them took them and hour and a half but that included getting the kayaks down from the rafters and fighting a stuck ratchet strap. We think once we load them up for our trip this weekend we can have them fully secured in 15 or so minutes now that we now what we are doing.
Easy strap placement as you can walk between the kayak and the car the place the strap on the back side. On the way home they opened our sunroof to see if anything shifted. My dad took it all the way up to 75mph and said they didn’t move at all. There was a slight whistle at 45 mph but it quickly went away once you went any faster.

Overall we LOVE these things. Be prepared to get stopped and tell people all about them because they definitely draw some attention.
Build quality is phenomenal, assembly is a breeze, and mounting is the same as any other rack. For the convenience it bring and at half the price of the name brands it’s a no brainer purchase! ... show more

  • Not User Friendly
Color: Black
The concept is great and it is definitely built to last, but it is not user friendly. Once you finally get it assembled and on the car the lock sticks so much I had to use all of my strength and a ton of grease to unlock the tiny levers. And then, the second you finally unlock the levers it springs up so fast it smacks you in the chin. This item is supposed to help people with mobility difficulties like me and it did the exact opposite. Great idea, poor execution. ... show more

  • The instructions are a conundrum...
Color: Black
This was relatively easy to put together, except you really, really need a drill. Also the instructions were very vague on the directions of two of the bars, so as you can see I will need to flip those. The locks are not working, but I'm going to get some WD-40 to put on them tomorrow. Definitely need two people to do this, but I'm excited to try it! My Kia Soul is the perfect size, it brings it right down to waist level. I'm going to lube all the parts, because I smashed my hand trying to get it to unlock. And the front bar definitely needs a warning on it, about it springing up. Also, pinch warning. We'll see after a few uses! ETA: six months in, and I still love my hoist! The only thing I wish they had was an attachment where you could lift heavier boats by yourself- something like telescoping poles. I love the looks I get with my boat in the hoist! Definitely a great product. ... show more

  • Works as it should
Color: Black
Great thing. Awesome deal. The instructions aren't too bad if you go step by step. The hydraulics make lifting easy. Mine had to be cycled a few times before it clicked in the down position. It takes a few times to get the pull down motion smooth. It would be nice if the u bolt deal for an existing rack was a little nicer - nothing you can't get at a hardware store. It would be nice if there was a place on the top for the strap to go around instead of the cross piece. ... show more

  • Manuel needs more specific info.
Color: Orange
I bought the lift assist kayak rack 302 from Amazon. To make a long story short, I am a 5’ 4” woman. 63 years old. I realized I might not go kayaking any more since my husband’s passing. So I decided to give this product a shot. Assembling was not difficult but the Manuel did not provide enough info about how to unfold and lift it back. Conclusively, first unfolding it, that is, putting down, was hard to figure out. To unfold it, I needed to be 6 feet high. (My Subaru forester is a little high) And it needed really really pulling hard at that height. Later, after I loaded and unloaded my kayak for a couple of times, I understood why I should pull it so hard. So I stood on a stepper and pulled hard with one foot against the vehicle. Anyway if you are a person with little muscle and height, you should be ready to have strategies. The company needs to be more friendly to those people. At least with manual. We buy the product to get help for our weaknesses. Also for convenience. Overall this is a great product. Glad to have been persistent so far. ^^ Question: warranty? ... show more

  • Returned. UPDATE: Very quick response from the seller!
Color: Orange
Unfortunately, you need to have extended roof rails to install this roof rack. Our Subaru doesn't have these extended rails so we needed to return this unit. It is a very solid product so it's unfortunate that we were unable to use it. The instructions aren't very strong either. UPDATE: Very quick response from the seller and a full refund was issued and they have updated the product information. ... show more

  • Works great.
Color: Black
I've had this for about a month now and it works great. Very easy to load and unload my kayak by myself. The only issue I have with it is removing and installing the removable carriage. Doing it by myself I need a third hand to trip the stops and hold the carriage up. I now have a couple dents in my car from the bearings on the carriage hitting the truck during removal. Small issue, but very annoying. ... show more
