  • Very nice trailer
It took me one leisurely day to assemble this trailer. It looks really good and it makes loading and unloading kayaks a breeze. Beats the heck out of hoisting kayaks up on the roof of our Jeep. The directions were very good and easy to follow. Another great thing about this trailer is that you are always ready to hook up and go at a moments notice when you get the chance. The folks at Malone were quick, efficient and friendly when I called to get the needed documents to title and license the trailer. The man I talked to asked me if I had assembled the trailer yet, and did I have any problems, and then offered to assist me in any way needed. No help was needed but I appreciated his interest. The only suggestion I have is that the light kit that comes with the trailer only had four clips to secure the wiring in the frame channels. I could have used two more, for a total of six. Also the license plate holder in the light kit is made of plastic. I was afraid that the plastic might eventually fatigue and crack from age and vibration, and then I might lose the license plate, so I replaced it with a metal license plate bracket that I picked up at an auto parts store. I think this is a really sharp looking trailer that will give me many years of service and then bring a good price at my estate auction when I am dead. Well worth the price in my opinion. P.S. I have taken four trips to current river since I bought this trailer, (about 300 miles one way), carrying an Old Town Predator MX (a fairly heavy Kayak), and an Old Town Cameron 120. The trailer trails nicely even at 70 mph interstate speeds, as well as rough back country roads. Even with the Kayaks loaded, the tongue weight is light, so I have found that a trailer dolly is not even needed. It is quick and easy to hook up and unhook. This makes it easy to park the trailer beside our car in parking lots, such as at a Motel. The trailer has attracted much interest and many compliments from people we meet on our trips. ... show more

  • Just what I wanted
Solid trailer and perfect for my needs. Assembly was easy but the bars have to be properly spaced for a PA14 360. The front bar needs to be moved as far forward as possible if using the Hobie cradles.

  • Recalled day after built.
I received a recall for my trailer axel the day after I built it for our July 4th weekend paddle trip (which won’t happen now). I called the number on the recall notice and there wasn’t even a inbox to leave a message. Malone had a good reputation. I will warn the paddling community about using Malone products. ... show more

  • A Great Trailer
This little trailer is quickly becoming the "gold standard" for hauling canoes, kayaks and bicycles. The product is well packaged and it arrive undamaged and complete. The directions are excellent and the whole assembly took me less than three hours. Having an impact wrench made quick work of the bolts - I hand tightened everything according to the directions. The electrical work took another hours since I was determined to get it right the first time around and make all my connection neat and clean. A fantastic result. I'm proud of my handy work, but Malone makes it easy. This thing goes down the road nicely and I don't have to lift my canoe over my head to load on top of my SUV. The trailer is well made and everything went together PERFECTLY... No Problem. This was a very positive buying experience and I'm happy with the outcome. Nice going MALONE... this is one great trailer. ... show more

  • Fabulous trailer!
Great trailer. Have had it for over a year. It was easy to assemble and it's so much better getting the kayaks to the water than from the roof of an SUV. It's light enough to push around with the kayaks on it. We put some hooks on it for strapping the kayaks down....everyone asks us where we got it.

  • Great Trailer!
The Good: This trailer is light and performs well. I took this down the Columbia River Gorge at 65mph and it had zero issues. So far I have only had a couple of 10 – 12 foot Kayaks on this (with J-Racks) but I think I can also fit my 17ft Canoe in the middle. The crossbars are large and provide plenty of storage space. Other reviewers mentioned the bars were a little flimsy but I found mine to be heavy and rock solid. I added the retractable tongue kit and I would highly recommend it. With the kit I was still not able to get it to stand up in my standard sized garage but I was able to easily remove the tongue (with the kit it is held in with a pin) and get it to fit that way. Malone was quick to respond when I emailed them regarding the paperwork. They had the paperwork required for registration sent quickly and even helped me purchase just the brackets for their add-on chest at a reasonable price. The tires are standard 12 inch sized so I was able to purchase a spare tire here on Amazon for super cheap. I installed it with a u-bolt (also purchased on Amazon). The trailer is super light. I purchased it because I own a Corolla but love to camp and boat. With this I can fit my family, a canoe, 2 kayaks, and full camping supplies in my car. It’s a lot of trouble to back up but it’s light enough that I can get out of my car and lift it (fully loaded) if need be (still trying to get used to backing up with it attached) The Bad: The assembly of the trailer was troublesome. The directions (touted as award winning) were not that great. First of all, there are no specific counts, measurements, or descriptions of the parts. You get a 3 inch picture that shows all the parts used in that step, in black and white, all at once. My first step in building is making sure I have all the correct parts and this made it difficult. One part wants you to use u-bolts but doesn’t mention that of the 8 provided 2 are slightly different. I accidentally bent one installing it wrong before I noticed this. The big problem I had with the assembly was the lights. They are junk; take the advice of others here and by them separately. The yellow lights for the sides of the trailer are installed by running a wire from the line going to the tail lights. They provided “quick connectors” to attach these. They did not work. I ensured they were tight and cut to the wire but they failed on both sides. I ended up joining these manually and wrapping with electrical tape. When I got to the rear lights they didn’t work either and needed a ground wire. They did not come with a spot to ground them (unlike the side lights that came with a ground but didn’t need it). In the end I went to Lowes and got some LED taillights (with a ground) and they installed with no problems. I absolutely love this trailer. It loses one star due to the mediocre at best (certainly not award winning) instructions and terrible lights. They should raise the price on this by $15 and include lights that work. ... show more
