  • Good but wrong screws - they were too long
Had to go get new screws which was a pain in the butt. Make sure to check the height of bar and you have to order a cross bar separately. Just something I’d wish I’d known before ordering

  • Have a socket and ratchet handy, Will make this product easier to assemble.
I can see why it’s a bit challenging to put it together. So it’s not as easy to be stolen from the rack. Great product overall did not have a single issue. I will recommend this product to anyone I know that has a kayak.

  • Great Rack for the Price
The first set took me longer than I'd like to admit to assemble and install. The second set took me 45 minutes. This included modifying the bottom wing nuts. The fasteners were not long enough to engage the threads in the wing nuts. I ended up modifying the wing nuts (black plastic) by trimming down the neck (see attached photo). This allowed the fasteners to engage the nuts and allow me to secure the kayak rack to the truck rack. Once together, the racks are sturdy and just barely fit the width of my Harbor Freight truck rack. I loaded my 13' tandem kayak and it nested well into the J frame style kayak racks. Just double check all your fasteners and you should be good to go! ... show more

  • Does the job
This is a solid product and works as advertised. However, it is very difficult to assemble and the bolts included are too long. I had to replace them for this to work on my 2019 Subaru Outback.

  • Pretty good
Instructions could be better but works well when figured out.

  • Direction
I was really unhappy with the direction or lack there of. If you have used something like this in the past they are easy to put together, but for someone who has never used something like this they were not helpful. I was able to figure out how to put them together, but still don't know how to tie them done correctly. The directions never even had anything about that. ... show more

  • Look at user posted pictures before assembly, and have your own wrench!
The good: So far these things have held up pretty well! They were able to keep my two kayaks completely stable at highway speeds with 25-30mph winds from a storm. The foam pads that come with the racks are quite frankly useless and peeled up on the first use do to heat and humidity, but the foam that surrounds the bars seems to be more than efficient to protect the kayaks. The tie downs that come with this pack do seem a bit thin and will probably wear out over a good amount of trips out but for the time being they work and they’re easy to use (just the light blue gator straps, the rope like tie downs are fantastic) If you’re going to be using this with a sedan make sure you get the “under the hood” Kevlar hooks that bolt down to the frame and you’re definitely going to want a front and back tie down for each kayak. Also after being tightened down they seemed EXTREMELY secure to my Yakima Baseline rack. You could easily carry multiple surfboards or paddle boards on these for people who want to go that route. The not so good: The assembly wasn’t too bad, but that’s only because I had a 13mm deep socket wrench. If you try to put this thing together with the wrench they supply you’re a madman. I suggest removing your roof rack if possible to put these on as it makes things much easier, or if you have a standard 13mm wrench it would make it possible with the rack still on the car. I’m not sure if anybody has tried it but I definitely wouldn’t try to put heavier kayaks on these. Both of mine (Sundolphin journey 10ss and a 12ft necky gannet) weigh 45lbs so I wasn’t worried about the metal bending but heavier ones would worry me as the metal used isn’t extensively thick. Overall, for the price you really can’t beat this set as long as you have your own tools. Again I wouldn’t put something like a 12 foot fully loaded fishing kayak on here, but for the average user these things are nice. Assembly would take roughly an hour if you plan it out right. ... show more
