  • Sometimes The Best Solution Is A Bit Low Tech
I got this GPS for my delivery job even through our company phones have GPS. For me the problem has to do with is having to look down at a small screen with a turn coming just 5ft away. this was nerve racking and doesn't make for safe driving. This Tom-tom allows me to see the turn coming without having to break my neck or worst. it can be mounted on the window or dash broad at eye level. In short it's a simple GPS with a big screen. Tom-tom's interface has always been easy to use especially when on the move. The Icons and text are big and easy to read and understand though I will admit, the touch screen does lagged compared to the ones on a smart phone especially when "typing" in an address. If you have a pen or stylist it helps with this and once the address is entered, you're off on the road. I would recommend you buy a 4gb micro SD Card. This provides more storage for maps and voices but mostly it will speeds up the GPS immensely. If you do regular routes like I do, you can program those stops so that you don't have to keep selecting them after you finish one. On that note however, as with any GPS's, it's not perfect and there will be times where it will direct you to roads that are either blocked, one ways, under construction, or any not there at all. Highways are always under construction so do pay attention to the signs and detours that are provided. Another issue is the "Fastest Route Debate" which I often find myself fighting with it on. A good example of this is in small towns where it will have insist on cutting through neighborhoods in order to get to a main road when really you can stay on the main roads and get there just as quick or quicker depending on traffic. You don't have to get the traffic receiver for the GPS to work but if your area is always jammed with traffic it will help you navigate around them. Truth of the matter is that todays Smart phones do this GPS's job a lot better and are more accurate in traffic conditions, road changes, and even where the cops are. But all those features use data and battery which if either one of those runs out, you could find yourself lost and having to make a VERY long drive back home. So if you want to save battery and data and have a big screen to let you know when the turns and exits are coming, get Tom-tom ... show more

  • Excellent Low End Navigation Device.
I have been immensely pleased with the TomTom 1525M that I purchased. I bought this as a replacement for a seven year old TomTom that quit working. I've found the 1525M to be much easier to program than my earlier device and it provides me with more information on the screen than the earlier model did (distance to my destination, distance to the next turn, estimated time of arrival, etc.). In fact, I would say this navigation device is very easy to use (though it got a lot easier after I took the time to read the User's Manual online). I miss the "Via" command to travel by way of a specified city and the "Find Alternate Route" when I preferred something other than the TomTom's first choice. This model also has a higher volume setting than my old one and that's a big improvement and a brighter screen. I found the touch screen to be sufficiently responsive. There may be better ones on higher priced models but this works just fine for me. On the downside, I found the process of downloading my own POI OV2 files to be poorly documented. I've managed to download thousands of locations of Walmarts, Cabela's and Bass Pro Shops, national forest campgrounds, fishing holes, etc. but it was a struggle to figure out how. It wouldn't be too difficult for TomTom to di a better job documenting how to do that. It would also be helpful if TomTom provided software to convert CSV files to OV2, perhaps through MyDrive or MyDrive Connect. I found independent websites to convert my files but they were all from unknown sources; working with trusted TomTom would have been better. My model does not have the speed camera warnings or programming by spoken commands so I can't comment on those features on other 1525 models. ... show more

  • Oh Tom Tom
Display Size: 5 Inches Edition: Traffic & Maps Map Type: USA Maps
This is a good GPS but you may have some difficulty operating this one. It’s my 2nd TomTom. The first one was great, older and much more simple to operate. I don’t know about you but the best GPS I use is to get me to my destination and nothing more, quickly and the best route. Sometimes the human equation factors in here. This thing can’t think logically like we do and can throw you off a little when it tries to get me to grandmas, my route is better and faster, it may take in traffic factors, I just don’t know! Bottom line, this one is OK, but nothing like my old one that was stolen, don’t you just love our justice system. Where’s Brandon!! The touch screen is hard to finger touch too. I do like it, just not so many bells and whistles. People that designed these things try to cram everything known to man about geography. Sell me something to get me to point A From B, that’s all. The older version of TomTom was great. It would b like comparing an older TV to a newer wall mounted TV that you talk to. Where’s George Jetson!! ... show more

  • be careful with this one.

Ok I have had this unit for about a year. Wanted to give it a good test. For me this unit is very slow to boot up. It’s taking over 4 minutes just to get the thing to let the touch screen to function. Very disappointing in this unit as it has trouble finding roads that have been in the city for 20+ years. Going to carmax this unit would not find the road carmax was on, yet if I go to points of interests in this city and search on carmax it finds it with no problem. It is very spotty on saving setting like volume. Half the time I have to go back to setting and once I’m driving it’s not a good thing to look at the unit and try to redo settings. I would not recommend this unit. ... show more
